  • After successful advent of Microsoft's Kinect, many interactive contents that control user's 3D avatar motions in realtime have been created. However, due to the Kinect's intrinsic IR projection problem, users are restricted to face the sensor directly forward and to perform all motions in a standing-still position. These constraints are main reasons that make it almost impossible for the 3D character to navigate the virtual environment, which is one of the most required functionalities in games. This paper proposes a new method that makes 3D character navigate the virtual environment with highly realistic motions. First, in order to find out the user's intention of navigating the virtual environment, the method recognizes walking-in-place motion. Second, the algorithm applies the motion splicing technique which segments the upper and the lower motions of character automatically and then switches the lower motion with pre-processed motion capture data naturally. Since the proposed algorithm can synthesize realistic lower-body walking motion while using motion capture data as well as capturing upper body motion on-line puppetry manner, it allows the 3D character to navigate the virtual environment realistically.

  • Nowadays, 'Interaction' is discussed not only in the multimedia field but also as a topic of daily life at the various viewpoints. And as the permmited limit of Interaction by Mutimedia Technology and audiovisual function is getting more activated, It is the time for us to have new understanding of a 'POSTER'. The Poster, as a one-sided information transmission media till now, is faced with its limitation in transmitting messages due to its unconformity between satisfaction of receiver' sdesire for information and installation space. This fact speaks for need of study about Digital Poster as an alternative communication method, and activation of Digital Poster Design Field. Therefore, I would like to present Design process and Examples by using Digital Poster for Maximizing the Communication Effect. And I expect the activation of Digital Poster Field by studying the possibility of development and various method of practical use of digital posters through presenting the examples.

  • Recently VR environment is used in many areas including mobile learning, smart factory. However HMD(head-mounted display) is required to a dedicated and expensive system with high-end specification. When designing a VR system, it is needed to handle performance, mobility and usability. Many VR applications need to handle diverse sensors and user inputs continuously in a streaming manner. In this paper we design a VR mobile platform and implement a low-cost mobile VR HMD running on the platform. The VR HMD supports 3D contents delivery in a mobile manner. It is used to detect the motion detection based on angle value of a VR player from accelerator and gyro sensor. The MPU-6050, 6-axis sensor, is used to get a sensory value and the sensory value is taken as an input to a VR rendering server on a Unity game engine that is generated 3D images.

  • Along with advance in visual culture, the importance of motion graphic has been increasingly emphasized day by day, which can maximize information delivery using image illustration and typography, graphic factors of images. In addition, we can easily see increasing cases where what a designer intends is visualized using creative typography in diverse mass media such as TV commercials, movies or web. Thanks to the effects of this trend, various ways of manufacturing works have been proposed in the field of motion typography by applying diverse factors including verbal ones, time, form, motion, colors, and sound for the purpose of expressing formless semantic notions through visual form of typography. However, physiological features such as sex, age, health status, pathological conditions, and body size can have a bigger effect on the process of real communication. Therefore, if property of quasi-verbal sound can be reflected appropriately in motion typography where communication is expressed only by visual form, it can enable people to understand what a designer intends faster and more exactly.

  • As an interest in metaverse increases, there are many studies to apply virtual reality to indirect experiences. Virtual reality is increasingly being used not only for entertainment such as games but also for educational content. A key technology of indirect experience is modeling an object to provide a realistic experience to the user. Natural environments such as tidal flats change with time, and many living things also live there. In this paper, we propose a method for creating experiential content that accurately models the ecological environment of tidal flats. The proposed method explains how to naturally model the temporal change of tidal flats. We also explain how to model a crab, a creature that inhabits the tidal flat, in the forms of an NPC using the behavior tree. Implementation results show that the proposed method uses simple algorithms but expresses the shapes of tidal flats well.

  • SWF(Shock Wave Flash) file is a format file for vector graphics produced by Adobe. It is widely used for a variety of contents such as advertising at websites, widgets, games, education, and videos and it contains various types of data such as sound sources, script, API and images. Many SWF files contain URL information on action script for communication in the network and they can be used as important research data as well as PC users' Web Browser history in terms of forensic investigation. And a decompiler for analyzing SWF files exists by which SWF files can be analysed and URL information can be verified. However, it takes a long time to verify the URL information on action scripts of multiple SWF files by the decompiler. In this paper, analysis of URL information on action scripts and extraction of URL information from multiple SWF files by designing analysis tools for URL information in SWF files is studied.

  • This paper attempts to investigate the establishment of an interactive knowledge base for action planning by virtual agents and an interactive knowledge-based planning system. A fixed knowledge base is unable to properly handle a change in circumstances because fixed planning is only available under a fixed knowledge base. Therefore, this paper proposes the establishment of an interactive knowledge base which is applicable to diverse environments and an artificial intelligence planning system in which an interactive knowledge base is available. The interactive knowledge base proposed in this paper consists of motivation, behavior, object and action. The association relationship between knowledge base and its input is set using an automation tool. With this tool, a user can easily add to or amend the components of the knowledge base. With this knowledge base, a character plans all action items and chooses one of them to take an action. Since a new action can be applicable by updating the knowledge base even when the character environment changes, it is very useful for virtual reality content developers. This paper has established a relationship between scalable interactive knowledge base components and other components and proposes a convenient input tool and a planning system algorithm effective for an interactive knowledge base. The results of this study have been verified through testing in a virtual environment ('virtual library').

  • In this paper, we propose a speech animation synthesis specialized in Korean through a rule-based co-articulation model. Speech animation has been widely used in the cultural industry, such as movies, animations, and games that require natural and realistic motion. Because the technique for audio driven speech animation has been mainly developed for English, however, the animation results for domestic content are often visually very unnatural. For example, dubbing of a voice actor is played with no mouth motion at all or with an unsynchronized looping of simple mouth shapes at best. Although there are language-independent speech animation models, which are not specialized in Korean, they are yet to ensure the quality to be utilized in a domestic content production. Therefore, we propose a natural speech animation synthesis method that reflects the linguistic characteristics of Korean driven by an input audio and text. Reflecting the features that vowels mostly determine the mouth shape in Korean, a coarticulation model separating lips and the tongue has been defined to solve the previous problem of lip distortion and occasional missing of some phoneme characteristics. Our model also reflects the differences in prosodic features for improved dynamics in speech animation. Through user studies, we verify that the proposed model can synthesize natural speech animation.

  • Motion capture devices have been utilized in producing several contents, such as movies and video games. However, since motion capture devices are expensive and inconvenient to use, motions segmented from captured data was recycled and synthesized to utilize it in another contents, but the motions were generally segmented by contents producers in manual. Therefore, automatic motion segmentation is recently getting a lot of attentions. Previous approaches are divided into on-line and off-line, where ow line approaches segment motions based on similarities between neighboring frames and off-line approaches segment motions by capturing the global characteristics in feature space. In this paper, we propose a graph-based high-level motion segmentation method. Since high-level motions consist of repeated frames within temporal distances, we consider similarities between neighboring frames as well as all similarities among all frames within the temporal distance. This is achieved by constructing a graph, where each vertex represents a frame and the edges between the frames are weighted by their similarity. Then, normalized cuts algorithm is used to partition the constructed graph into several sub-graphs by globally finding minimum cuts. In the experiments, the results using the proposed method showed better performance than PCA-based method in on-line and GMM-based method in off-line, as the proposed method globally segment motions from the graph constructed based similarities between neighboring frames as well as similarities among all frames within temporal distances.

  • Recentely, the military needs to apply various technologies for the improvement of teamwork. The government should take the non-face-to-face system due to the social interest of young military members. In this study we investigated collective cohesion by helping soldiers who have difficulty expressing their feelings and delivering messages while living in groups, or who are unable to adapt to group life due to psychological disorders such as relationship anxiety. We proposed the Multi-perspective Relationship Experience program as a new VR application. We showed feeling a sense of reality equivalent to the actual situation, interpersonal tension and social distance were significantly reduced, and communication, which was difficult to actually do, was naturally achieved. In addition, positive effects were confirmed on the sense of belonging and leadership among all participants. We will be effectively used in manpower management policies that improve the collective cohesion of soldiers and support the adaptability of the military environment in line with the rapidly changing social interaction method.
