  • The concept map is the diagram of two dimensions which hierachically arrays main concepts from those of the textbook and shows their relations. The research analyzed five of the ten high school earthscience textbooks approved by the Minister of Education according to the 6th reformed curriculum in 1995, one of which this research chose to make out the concept maps. The chapter [III. the Universe] contains the outer space of the earth presents new concepts about the stars and the universe and introduces the latest research in astronomy. This study changed textbook contents into Novak's concept map, searched for concepts requiring complement for learners in oder to obtain concepts from those of the textbook and pointed out problems on the basis of that result still better concept map is set up. We have the following conclusions. First, it is necessary to rule out unnecessary small units so as to make more effective understanding and to rearrange the units to have relation to contents. Second, the higher concept and lower concept need to be rearranged systematically in making an array of textbook contents. Third, the concept should have something to do with learners' experences and consciousness by showing learners the real examples relevant to the concept for the link between them.

  • The STS contents, emphasized in the 6th curriculum, in the chemistry textbooks(II) were analyzed. The STS contents in textbooks showed average value of 2.7%. The chapter of ‘chemical bond and compound' were included 3.8% of STS contents. And the chapter of ‘atomic structure and periodic table', ‘state of material and solution', ‘science of material', and ‘chemical reaction' contained 3.2%, 2.2%, 1.9%, and 1.9% of STS contents, respectively. When the STS contents were analyzed by STS topics of Piel, the results are as follows; 33.7% on effect of technological developments, 27.5% on environmental quality and utilization of natural source, 19.6% on human engineering, 13.8% on energy, and 5.4% on sociality of science. However, there were no topics on population, space research and national defense. When the STS contents were analyzed by student activities of SATIS, most of the activities were research and case study. There were few field activities of practical investigation, problem solving and decision making, research design and stimulation. There were no activities of role play.

  • Textbooks used in Information Society need to use many illustrations and pictures which have positive effect in motivating and triggering students to study. "Pictures mean more than thousands of the word" says that it is significant to use media in class through visual materials. To meet the needs of the times, I examined one of the units, "IV Understanding Humans and Cultural Phenomena", among 7 authorized 'Society Culture' textbooks, so that there are 123 illustrations and 342 pictures that the percentage of them was 35.65% totally in the unit. On the examination of the frequency of using contents in each category, the illustrations are used 59 times (47.96%) in the research activity and the pictures 145 times (42.4%) in the context, which are most frequently used. Also on the examination into the actual states using contents among 'Society Culture' teachers by in-depth interviewing, they often use them when their class starts. And they require more increase in the illustrations than the pictures for easy and clear understanding and need more contents offering in the research activity to help students to study more interesting. Finally, on the result of the analysis of contents used in textbooks, exemplary cases were available to convey enough information without reading the context in the textbook because the proposed illustrations expressed the research activity's subject and the context's subject effectively. Even more, one illustration was able to indicate the sub-unit's subject while also presenting the content to be learned in the unit. However, improper cases included illustrations which are somewhat unrealistic or difficult to understand. Further, there are also some illustrations which are not related to the context. If these points are revised in the future, textbooks would be better.

  • The STS contents, emphasized in the 6th curriculum, in the chemistry parts of general science textbooks were analyzed. The STS contents of textbooks showed average of 24.4%. The chapter in "modern science and technology" were included 45.5% in STS contents, 38.7% in "environment", 29.1% in energy, and 14.0% in "materials". When the STS contents were analyzed by STS topics of Piel, the results are as follows; 38.3% on environmental quality and utilization of natural source, 29.6% on effect of technological developments, 7.9% on energy, and 0.6% on human engineering. However, there were no topics on population, space research and national defense. When the STS contents were analyzed by student activities of SATIS, most of the activities were research and case study. • This study aimed to investigate elementary school teachers' interest in mathematics textbooks following the new change in the publication system for elementary mathematics textbooks. To achieve this, an online survey platform was used to conduct a survey of elementary school teachers in teaching grade 3-4 across the country, and the responses of 199 participants were analyzed to determine their interest in mathematics textbooks. The research results showed that elementary school teachers had high levels of interest in mathematics textbooks, particularly in informational and personal interest. Moreover, the stages at which teachers showed the highest level of interest were reinforcement interest and operational interest. Analysis of the differences in interest in mathematics textbooks based on personal variables showed significant differences depending on the teacher's experience in mathematics education training, satisfaction with mathematics textbooks, and whether they majored in mathematics education. Based on these findings, it can be inferred that elementary school teachers have a high level of informational interest in the characteristics, strengths, weaknesses, and materials related to authorized and approved mathematics textbooks, and their high level of personal interest in mathematics textbooks can have a positive effect in line with the goal of the new textbook system. Additionally, since many teachers showed a high level of interest in reinforcement interest, it is necessary to devise various ways to support teachers' creative use and reconstruction of mathematics textbooks.
