The purpose of this study was to analyze the features of the avant-garde architecture in the end of the 20th Century based on the ontology as a metalanguage. In view of the results so for achieved, it is possible to say that the thought of becoming, topology, rhizome thought and the Deleuze's concepts of the fold and the event as ever-changing and evolving at any given time are found in the avant-garde architecture, and the introduction of ontological thought into architectural design encourage hopes for a more natural and existential quality in architecture. However, the avant-garde architecture in the end of the 20th century disclosed the limitation in the architectural expression of ontological thought due to the lack of fully understand on ontology. In conclusion, the ontological approach in architecture offers a new morphological methodology and a new way of programming considering the existential aspect of space through the bricoleur's means leaving the ontological meaning of architecture itself.

This study aims at evaluating the spatial configuration of general hospitals in terms of Visitors' movement pattern. In doing so, the study deals with three hospitals which are recently built and are generally considered to show recent trends in their spatial configuration. First, the Space Syntax method is used in order to systematically describe and analyse the spatial configurations, and thus to find out the spatial characteristics of each hospital in terms of movement pattern. Second, the spatial characteristics reflected on the 1st floor plan are compared with the planning concepts considered at early stage of the design. It can be said that the concept of hospital street and the spatial hierarchy should be carefully taken into account and tested the spatial configuration by the completed floor plan in order to satisfy the planning concepts.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the contextual cognition of space in architecture focusing on Aldo Rossi and Michael Graves, the representative architects of spatial cognition in contextual architecture. This study on the contextual cognition of architectural space can be connected with linguistics and aesthetics's approaches. It is very important to measure the displacement of a structure to evaluate the safety of the structure. This study shows a methodology to measure the displacement to determine the stability of a structure when it is damaged by loads. The methodology used Moiré's phenomenon and was verified through experiments. The experiments utilized pipes to simulate the pipe supports in the construction site and measured the vertical displacement of the Moiré interference patterns according to the horizontal displacement of the pipes. Experiments confirmed that the linear relationship between horizontal displacement of pipes and vertical displacement of Moiré patterns and derive a relational expression. In conclusion, the methodology presented in this work allows us to simultaneously measure a number of vertical members' displacements regardless of distance and determine the safety of the structure.

This study is investigates space syntax theory, developed by Bill Hiller, used for physical analysis and visual access of space and role of spatial configuration based on social logic. it mean computer program analyze physical structure of space and represent by mathematical logic. it used for predict space use and Descriptive of spatial configuration. This method and theory is incompletion for design, but it enough useful tool for architecture and urban design and will be improved. And development of a simple computer program - SSA(Sspace Syntax Analysis) for space syntax analysis and study. SSA is based on convex map analysis and using VISIO software for easily using and development.

우리나라 주거양식의 근대화는 단순히 전통한옥에서 현대의 주택, 아파트로의 교체가 아니라 일련의 연속적인 변화과정 속에서 시대를 살아온 사람들의 생활양식과 문화를 담고 있다고 볼 수 있다. '주택이란 삶을 담는 그릇'이라는 표현에서 볼 수 있듯이 주택이란 거주자의 가치관을 포함한 주생활양식과의 대응 속에서 주거환경의 질적 향상이 이루어질 수 있다. 따라서 주거양식의 변화에 관한 연구 또한 이러한 삶과 문화에 대응하는 방향으로 이루어져야 바람직할 것이다. 이상의 배경 하에 과거 전통주택에서부터 근대화 이후의 여러 주택유형에 이르기까지 다양한 유형을 포함한 우리 나라 주택이 가지는 공간구조의 변천을 시대적으로 조망하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여, 전통사회의 양반주택, 도시형한옥, 표준주택, 일반단독주택, 작가주택, 아파트에 이르는 다양한 주택유형을 포함하여 총 104개의 주택평면을 대상으로 공간구조의 변화에 대한 분석을 실시하였다. 또한 다양한 주택유형들이 보여주는 공간구조와 그 통시적 변화를 객관적이고 계량적인 방법론을 이용하여 관찰하고자 공간구문론의 분석방법을 이용하여 주택형식에 따른 기능적 형상학을 뛰어넘는 사회학적 형태학의 관점에서 우리나라 주거의 변천과정을 고찰하고자 한다. 상기한 바와 같이 개개의 주택형식에 대한 고려보다는 시대적 상황과 배경을 설명해주는데 용이한 대상을 중심으로 전반적인 변화의 양상과 그러한 변화에 내재한 사회적 동인과 배경을 파악하고 이해하고자 하였다.

Non-geometric shapes in contemporary architecture was explained from the transcendental schema of Deleuze with his abstraction theory. In this explanation, the intensity, the movement and change and the sublime were suggested as the expressional elements of the transcendental abstraction related with the artistic sensation of architecture. First, the intensity as a power of sensation which acts to the body before the recognition of brain is mainly expressed with the movement of curved lines of architectural space. Second, the movement of change is expressed as the de-centralized and de-formalized nomadic curve as the line in architectural 'smooth space' which has unrestrained orientations. Third, the sublime is expressed in the hugeness, enormousness or sometimes uncanny in void space, which could be contradictively mixed with senses of displeasure and pleasure. The sublime feelings in architecture can be emerging by rationally overcoming the unpleasant senses of contradictive spaces in architecture or urban fabric. This study has explained those expressional elements with the architectural works of Steven Holl, Frank Gehry and Zaha Hadid.

This study examined a methodology of architectural integrated design education from the design methodology of architects in 1990s, particularly FOA, who thought of architecture as a material organization. Their design method starts from a prototype, which is a technical and material mediator, and processes a number of materials as specific information into an architectural organization. This method is used in the architectural design studio so that the students can integrate the knowledge leant from other classes into architectural proposals. Three case studies show they can successfully organize their proposals with structural and functional materials, which suggests that the FOA's design methodology is a potential solution for architectural integrated design education.
