Anti-obesity effect of Korean Hamcho (Salicornia herbacea L.) powder on high-fat diet-induced obese rats (고지방식이로 유도한 비만 흰쥐에서 함초 (Salicornia herbacea L.) 분말의 항비만 효과 탐색)

  • Purpose: The objective of this study was to examine whether Hamcho freeze-dried powder and Hamcho freeze-dried nano powder have an anti-obese effect on high fat diet-induced obese rats. Methods: Sprague Dawley rats were divided into 6 different groups, each of which was bred for 8 weeks with a different experimental diet: normal diet group (NC), high fat diet group (HFC), high fat diet + 2% Salicornia herbacea L. freeze-dried powder group (2% HS), high fat diet + 5% Salicornia herbacea L. freeze-dried powder group (5%HS), high fat diet + 1% Salicornia herbacea L. freeze-dried nano powder group (1% HSN), high fat diet + 2% Salicornia herbacea L. freeze-dried nano powder group (2% HSN). Results: The 5% HS group showed a weight loss effect in body weight, liver and adipose tissue by reducing the amount of dietary intake and food efficiency ratio. In addition, the 5% HS group showed a significant reduction of serum leptin concentration, while having a beneficial effect on the improvement of lipid metabolism such as increase the serum concentration of adiponectin. However, Hamcho freeze-dried nano powder did not show a weight loss effect. Conclusion: Overall data indicated that Hamcho seemed to have anti-obesity effects. In particular, consumption of 5% Hamcho freeze-dried powder might have beneficial effects on body weight, serum adiponectin level, and lipid profiles since it led to reduced body weight and growth of adipose tissues by suppressing dietary intakes. However conduct of further research studies is needed for analysis of active components and biochemical action mechanism of Hamcho.

Development of A Drying Unit of Agricultural Wastes (농업폐기물 건조장치 개발)

  • 2013년 국내 시설(비닐, 유리 온실)에서 재배되는 토마토, 풋고추, 파프리카의 생산량은 총 632,315 톤으로 잎, 줄기 등 발생되는 부산물은 수확량의 약 30%에 해당되는 189,695 톤으로 추정되며 대부분 노지에 방치 유실되거나, 소각 처리된다. 본 연구에서는 이처럼 단순 폐기되는 농업폐기물을 재활용한 고형연료 제조에 필요한 건조장치를 개발하고 실험을 통해 그 성능을 확인하고자 하였다. 연구를 위해 건조용량 100 kg/hr인 실험실용 건조기를 제작하였다. 경상남도 진주시 농업기술원 온실에서 재배되는 파프리카, 토마토, 딸기, 가지, 고추 등의 부산물을 실험원료로 사용하였다. 원료성상, 원료이송방식, 송풍량, 건조온도, 건조시간에 따른 부산물 건조특성을 파악하였다. 원료를 비교적 짧게 절단하고 열풍이 배출되는 다공판위를 견인형 컨베어로 이송시키는 형태의 경우 건조실험 결과 세절된 원료에서 추출된 내부 수분이 외부로 유출되어 원료들 사이의 공극을 채워 건조공기가 원료층을 통과하지 못하게 하고, 특히 $100^{\circ}C$ 이상 고온에 노출되는 경우 원료표면에 잔류하는 유출 수분이 건조되면서 막을 형성하여 내부 원료들은 전혀 건조가 되지 못하는 현상이 관측되었다. 이러한 원료내부의 공극형성 불량으로 국부적으로 공기가 통과되는 부분만 집중적으로 급격한 건조가 진행되고 공급된 건조공기 대부분이 이 부분으로 유출되어 효과적인 건조가 전혀 진행되지 못하였다. 피건조물 사이의 공극형성을 위해 원료를 절단하지 않고 수행한 건조실험 결과 건조 풍량 및 온도에 따라 건조속도 및 처리용량이 다르게 나타나는 것을 알 수 있다. 특히 송풍량과 압력을 증가 시킨 건조 결과로 건조 상하층 간 불균일 건조 해소 및 건조속도, 건조능력에서 연구목표 치를 상회하는 결과를 보여준다. 특히 건조공기온도 $150^{\circ}C$ 이하에서 풍량을 증가시켜서 원하는 건조작업 수행이 가능함을 확인할 수 있었다.

Development of Heated-Air Dryer for Agricultural Waste Using Waste Heat of Incineration Plant (소각장 폐열을 활용한 농업폐기물 열풍 건조장치 개발)

  • To manufacturing of solid fuel by reuse of the wastes, the drying unit which have 500 kg/hr of drying capacity was developed and experimentally evaluate the performance. The spinach grown in Nam-hae island were used for the experiments and investigated of the heated-air drying characteristics as the inlet amount of raw materials, raw material stirring status, conveying type and drying time. The drying air heated by the energy derived from the steam which is supplied from the incineration plant. The moisture contents of raw materials were measured 85.65%. The inlet flow rate of drying air made a difference as the depth of the raw materials loaded on the drying unit and temperature has showed 108~144℃. The drying speed of the mixed drying more than doubled as that of non mixed drying under the same drying type, inlet amount, drying time and drying air temperature. In each experiment, the drying capacity have showed over 500 kg/hr. A drying efficiency of the ratio of drying consumption energy to input energy was 33.46%, lower than the average of 57.76% for the 157 conventional dryers. Because developed dryer must have a drying time of less than one hour, it is considered that the dry efficiency has been reduced due to the loss of wind volume during drying. If waste heat from incineration plant is used as a direct heat source, the dry air temperature is expected to be at least 160℃, greatly improving the drying capacity.

Drying Boards of Populus alba×P. glandulosa in Conventional, High-Temperature and Microwave-Vacuum Kilns (은사시나무 판재의 열기건조, 고온건조, 마이크로파-진공 건조)

  • Flat-sawn 32 mm-thick boards of Populus alba×P. glandulosa, one of major plantation species in this country, were dried in conventional, high-temperature and microwave-vacuum (MW/V) kilns. The average green specific gravity of the specimens used in this study was 0.349±0.074. Their average green moisture contents of heartwoods and sapwoods were around 200% and 100%, respectively. From green to oven-dry they shrunk 2.4 and 7.3% in radial and tangential directions, respectively, and there was no discrepancy between heartwoods and sapwoods. It took 65, 35 and 22 hours to dry from green to 10% moisture content in conventional, high-temperature and MW/V kilns, respectively. A colorimetry study showed that the surface color of the specimens dried in a MW/V kiln was clearer and lighter than those in other kilns.

Estimation of Agricultural Produce Drying Using Ultrasonic (초음파를 이용한 농산물의 건조특성 분석)

  • This study was conducted to develop the ultrasonic dryer because present drying methods (heat convection, microwave, vacuum, etc.) could not improve the drying consumption energy, decrease of quality and drying ratio by physical limitation. The drying tests were conducted with four levels (No. 1 only non-heated air, No. 2 only ultrasonic, No. 3 only heated air and No. 4 ultrasonic with heated air) and measuring weight of samples after drying carrot and ginseng slices for 30 minutes. The result of test is that the drying ratio was highest in the level of No. 4 ultrasonic with heated air. The sliced carrot's drying ratio was 22.4% (w.b.)/h and sliced ginseng's drying ratio was 3.8% (w.b.)/h. The discoloration and twist of samples was appeared on using only heated air like No. 3.

  • 대형 시추구조물의 건조는 보통 드라이도크에서 하거나, 해양에서 선체와 데크를 접합하는 방법을 사용한다. 그러나 적당한 해양 접합장소가 없거나 드라이도크의 공간부족으로 현대중공업에서는 드라이도크나 해양에서의 접합건조 대신 부유식 시추구조물을 지상에서 조립하는 방법을 채택하게 되었다. 현대중공업에서는 세 가지 단계를 통해 지상 데크조립을 수행하였다. 첫 번째는 네 개의 철골구조 리프팅타워 상에서 유압리프팅시스템을 이용하여 데크를 지상으로부터 38m 들어올린다. 두 번째는 마찰을 줄이기 위해 윤활제가 칠해진 합성 플라스틱으로 싸인 미끄럼틀(Skidway)을 이용하여 두 개의 6000톤 짜리 하부구조를 데크 아래로 끌어 들인다. 마지막 단계로 데크와 하부구조를 단단히 결합시킨다. 이 과정에 2주일이 소요되었으며 일련의 작업을 거쳐 중량 25,500톤급의 Deepwater Nautilus (RBS-8M) 시추선을 무사히 바다 위로 인도하였다. RBS-8M의 데크결합에 Super Lift를 적용하여 성공시킨 사례를 통해 현대중공업의 초대형 시추구조물 건조방식이 이상적이고, 작업 공기나 원가 측면에서 우위가 있음을 시사하고 있으며 이렇게 건조작업의 대부분을 지상에서 수행한 과정을 통해 작업관리, 품질관리, 일정관리에도 좋은 결과를 가져올 수 있었다.

감광제 도포 후 용매 건조기술

  • 본 연구에서는 평판 디스플레이 Photo공정 중에서 무회전 도포(Spinless Coating)방식으로 기판(Glass)에 감광제 약액을 도포한 후 용매(Solvent)를 제거시키기 위한 진공건조장치(Vacuum dryer)에서 감광제 도포막의 품질에 영향을 주지 않는 범위 안에서의 용매 제거시간을 단축하기 위한 진공챔버의 용적에 따른 진공포트의 크기 및 배치에 대한 최적화를 구현하였다. 구현된 챔버의 용적과 진공포트의 크기 및 배치를 바탕으로 진공건조장치를 챔버, 챔버 구동부, 기판 구동부, 진공펌프, 그리고 $N_2$ 공급부로 모듈화하여 구성하였으며. 실제 도포 기판을 이용하여 진공건조를 실시한 후 도포막을 검사함으로써 진공포트에 대한 최적화를 검증함과 동시에 진공건조 능력을 확인하였다.

Microwave-Vacuum Drying of Short Roundwoods and Wood Turneries (단척 통나무와 선반가공목의 마이크로웨이브-진공 건조)

  • A microwave vacuum (MW/V) dryer was developed for drying short roundwoods, from which woodcraft souvenirs in Korean market are mostly made, and which were hardly dried without defects in a conventional kiln. It consisted of three 1.5 kW magnetrons of 2,450 MHz, a vacuum pump, a load cell of 100 kg and a cavity of $580{\times}580{\times}1,360\;mm^3$. A computer program was developed to switch on or off the magnetrons according to drying schedules, those were based on microwave injection time or the average of wood temperatures. To evaluate the new MW/V dryer the roundwood specimens of rigida pine, poplar and birch were dried. Their log diameters and lengths ranged from 125 to 25 em and from 25 to 50 cm, respectively. In spite of the presence of minor drying defects, the MW/V drying is found to be an effective method for drying short roundwoods. Wooden turneries made of red alder and ash logs were also MW/V dried from green to 4%MC without any degradation. The rates of the MW/V drying were examined for three different lengths of poplar logs.

Change of fucoxanthin and total antioxidant capacities of Saccharina japonica during the drying process (다시마의 건조 과정 중에 발생하는 후코잔틴(fucoxanthin)과 총항산화능의 변화)

  • Kelp (Saccharina japonica) contains various bioactive compounds, including vitamins, minerals (especially iodine and potassium), alginic acid, fucoxanthin, and various antioxidants. Kelp is mainly used as a dried product. The purpose of this study was to investigate the stabilities of antioxidant capacities and fucoxanthin of kelp by different conventional drying conditions including hot air drying at 70℃ and natural drying methods. Fucoxanthin, total phenolic contents, and total antioxidant capacity by ABTS, DPPH, and FRAP assays were significantly decreased after 5 to 10 h of hot air drying at 70℃. The assay values were also significantly decreased by 50% after 2 days of drying due to ultraviolet exposure. The findings demonstrate that heat and ultraviolet exposure during drying of kelp could affect the degradation of bioactive compounds, especially fucoxanthin and polyphenols. Optimal conditions should be considered during kelp drying and storage.
