  • This research outlined the factors influencing the business management success via analyzing a survey of business principles. The research process has been tested in comparison of both financial factors, which come out of objective data and non-financial factors so relevantly prioritized by combining these factors. In order to specify the factors, a check-list and analyzed essential features of category have been done with interviews and surveys. As consequently proceeding, the authors could deduce that non-financial but analytic factors such as business do-able, technician workability, compensation and benefits etc. play major roles in construction sector. The outcomes consider a construction business as fundamental human labor job as opposed to a manufacture business. On reasoning necessarily more objective research works to be done as developing this research's outcome, it is meaningful in suggesting the pivotal factors influencing the construction business management. Therefore, this research is expected to guide the direction to induce the improvement of business management to be done by further exemplary researches.

  • The success of mergers and acquisitions(M&A) have been evaluated by either measuring ex ante expectations for the specified time period(Window) or assessing long term-based post operating performance (ex post operating performance). In this study, utilizing cumulative abnormal return(CAR) method, M&As which are observed in both domestic and U.S. construction industries were analyzed then research outcomes are compared. Analysis results indicate that stockholders of public construction companies did not realize significant economic gains from M&As. In other words, there was no synergistic gains from the construction M&As. Also, no significant performance difference was observed between related and unrelated diversifications.

  • The construction industry has mainly relied on financially focused performance measurements, and studies on performance measurement systems (PMSs) have been carried out at the project level. However, recently, the demand for performance evaluation and management at the company level has increased. A few previous efforts have aimed to develop a conceptual model for company performance, but there have been few follow-up studies. From this perspective, we have developed a web-based performance and informatization measurement system to measure and compare the business performance and the level of informatization of construction companies. Then, we carried out a performance evaluation and system test using the data set of 78 Korean construction companies and identified practical issues for the implementation of our PMS.

  • This study is to suggest specialty contractors with countermeasures to construction orders falling off, one of the construction business indicators for the construction industry, by analyzing the impact of dwindling construction orders to business performance indicators of specialty contractors as well as identifying inter-relationships between those performance indicators. For specialty contractors of civil construction, it is analyzed that their current ratio is significantly affecting obtention of construction orders, which in turn greatly affecting the ratio of owner's equity. It seems that the amount of construction orders has a direct relationship with the corporate stability. Therefore, this type of specialty contractors are determined to be able to obtain more orders for construction by improving current ratio.

  • Recently, the demand for performance evaluation and management at the industrial or corporate level has been increasing. From this perspective, this study has developed indicators to measure and compare construction company performances and we have analyzed various characteristics of those indicators. Throughout our thorough qualitative and quantitative analysis we first identified a set of indicators for performance measurement. These indicators have been shown to meet the requirements of validity, measurability, and comparability. Second, we calculated the performance index of construction companies by applying weightings of the performance categories. Then we performed correlation and regression analyses using the calculated performance index and identified the basic cause-and-effect relationships, as well as the statistical characteristics of the performance index. Drawing on the results of the analytical processes identified in this work, we discuss future research to be conducted.

  • Knowledge management was introduced as a new strategy in many construction companies aiming at paradigm shift since Asian financial Crisis. However, intensive focusing on acquiring and sharing knowledge couldn't keep pace with the primary goal. Increasing financial profits. That is because clear strategic process and performance measurement are absent in time of the introduction of knowledge management. Based on case analysis in domestic construction industry, this research work presents an alternative plan on Balanced Scorecard(BSC) model. The objective of this study is to develop a model of strategic performance measurement in knowledge management by sorting and grasping core operational knowledge, which can draw key performance indicators accompanied by knowledge map from case study.

  • The purposes of this study are both to identify suggestions regarding the evaluation framework of construction policy performance based on the analysis of the 4th Master Plan for Improvement of Construction Technology and to provide recommendations that can be used for developing the 5th Master Plan for Improvement of Construction Technology. In order to achieve this purpose, a questionnaire was distributed to construction industry-related professionals and makes them evaluate the performance of the 4th Master Plan for Improvement of Construction Technology by performance index appropriacy, measurement appropriacy, and target level. In addition, comprehensive literature review was implemented to extract important points, which are related to policy evaluation, that can be considered factors in developing the 5th Master Plan for Improvement of Construction Technology.

  • Currently, The failure of construction project is increasing to be caused by a changing construction environment. According to this circumstances, Researches of project success factors affecting performance have been presented to develop strategies for efficient construction project management in the construction industry. However, Conducting efficient construction project management is difficult because project manager could not know which project success factors can be improved or not. Especially, although the project characteristics were derived the level of difficulty for performance, research of the project characteristics which could not be improved as influence factor to performance is lacking. Therefore, This paper has developed the Performance Predicting System(PPS) with Fuzzy set theory to establish. PPS has been developed to establish efficient project management strategies and to save time and effort. As Contractor inputs the project characteristics, PPS can predict the level of difficulty of performance.

  • This study aims to prove the importance and necessity of a project management consultancy (PMC) that systematically manages construction projects to ensure their successful implementation. In order to analyze the interrelationship between the role of PMC and the outcome of the construction projects, structural equation modelling(SEM) was conducted. Hence, one of the critical aspects when conducting the project, human resource competency, especially referring to the competency of project team members and the project manager's leadership, affects the performance of construction projects. As a result of this study, PMC is found to have significant effects on human resource competency and construction project performance. In addition, human resource competency also had a significant effect on construction project performance. Consequently, the research outcomes suggest that introducing PMC services should be done when implementing large domestic infrastructure projects successfully, as doing so will enhance PM leadership and strengthen the capacity of the project team members.
