  • The mass flow rates and performance of natural smoke ventilators in high-rise buildings with 40, 80, 120 stories were evaluated using CONTAMW tool. The results showed that only limited part of smoke ventilators can have positive exhaust flow in high-rise buildings due to stack effect and wind velocities. In the higher story buildings larger stack effect can overcome outside strong wind effect to give more ventilation performance. The air tightness of the building have strong effect on the exhaust performance of the ventilators to give lower performance with loose air tightness of the exterior walls.

  • In this research, a VR game was developed to experience the fire evacuation from a fired building, intending calm and fast reaction in urgent fire situations. The user should move out through the fire door, stairs and corridors toward exit door using the VIVE controllers. When the user can't proceed the path because of fire flame or smoke, he/she should turn back to find another path. A building of Hoseo university was modeled and tests were carried out by students with polls focused on the usability and the effectiveness of this VR game. The result has been analyzed to show their responses.

  • Fire protection (sprinkler) piping system is an essential element for the energy supply and for the protection against the seismic-induced fire during and after an earthquake. The primary objective of this study was to understand the seismic performance of complex two-story piping system installed in a low-rise building subjected to bi-directional and three-directional earthquakes. The result of current study revealed that the displacement of the piping system in accordance with floor level was significantly different due to acceleration-sensitivity but the effect of the piping system due to the vertical direction earthquake was not significant.

  • With the rapid development of technology, skyscrapers are widely spread and they are tightly coupled. If fire occurs in a building, it is easily spread to neighboring buildings, resulting in the large number of victims and property damages. To remove fire disasters, the need for early fire detection techniques is increasing. To detect fire, detecting devices for heat, smoke, and flame have been used widely. However, this paper surveys and presents the latest research which focuses on early smoke and flame detection algorithms and systems with camera's input images. In addition, this paper implements and evaluates the performance of these flame and smoke detection algorithms with several types of movies.

  • Nowadays fires must be detected rapidly Abstract, and by connecting the detector's distribution, sender, transponder, receiver and others can be connected. Mechanical systems are implemented in today's buildings. However, this kind of constructing method has some disadvantages, that is, if fire happens somewhere, we cannot judge where the fires happen, and it is also difficult to judge what extent the fires reach. In order to overcome the disadvantages, in this paper, according to the tendency of combining the Ubiquitous and Intelligent Network, we propose a type of system by using the method of comparing the differences of the existed systems. The proposed system is designed to perceive the fires rapidly and confirm the fire place and fire scale correctly.

  • In case of fire, the information related with the fire need to be provided to fire fighters in order to extinguish the fire efficiently. However, existing fire detection systems have the problem not to provide the data of the fire to fire fighters visually. In this paper, we propose the fire spot system using a cloud server to solve this problem. In the proposed system, the sensors installed in a building collect the gas and temperature data and store them into the cloud database using a wireless network. For fire fighters in the field, the details and history of the fire spot are displayed visually on top of the blue print retrieved from the cloud database using a smart device.

  • In structural fires, flashover is characterized by the rapid transition in fire behavior from localized burning of fuel to the involvement of all combustibles in the enclosure. An investigation of parameter effects on the time to reach flashover conditions in a typical single room fire is undertaken using a zone method (FAST) and Thomas method. Major parameters affecting the time to reach flashover are found to be fire growth rate, ventilation opening area and internal room surface. The results of the FAST and the Thomas Method give very similar results of the time to reach flashover..

  • The final goal of this study was to develop an optimal service scenario to ensure that building occupants can be effectively evacuated from the building within the golden time without extra assistance in preparing and evacuating for fires. In addition, the research was carried out by dividing the current services into fire evacuation and preparedness phases by applying the Double Diamond process in order to find a way to better familiar them as a lifestyle and to always be prepared for fires. For the building occupants and managers, a total of 14 ideas were first suggested, including not only the services of how to evacuate from a fire, but also the life-style service functions associated with fire implementation technology in daily life. The 14 proposed ideas were conducted by the Service quality evaluation and Analytical Hierarchy Process(AHP) from the perspective of the service recipient, and those were finally prioritized from the service provider's perspective, taking into account the cost and practicality of the service provider. The results of this study show that differences in the importance of fire phases considered by stakeholders and the perception of fire generally vary considerably.
