  • Seedling emergences of four rice varieties (Dongjinbyeo, Dadajo, Galsaekggarak-sharebyeo, and Italiconaverneco) and three barnyardgrass species(Echjnochloa oryzjcola, E. crus-gali var. crus gali E. crus-gali var. praticola) were evaluated in relation to soil strength. Soil strength was varied by compressing the entire volume of soil with a hydraulic jack so as to be 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 6kg /$\textrm{cm}^2$. Soil strength was measured with a penetrometer (Yamanaka type) and soil covering above the seed was 4cm deep. Experiments were conducted at two air temperature conditions of 17 and $25^{\circ}C$. At a soil strength of up to 2kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, little or no decrease in seedling emergence occurred in all rice varieties and barnyardgrasses tested. Above that value, seedling emergence decreased progressively as the soil strength increased. The degree of decrease was greatest in Dongjinbyeo and smallest in Dadajo among tested rice varieties, and greatest in Echinochloa oryzicola among barnyardgrasses, being greater in barnyardgrasses than rice. Seedling emergence was delayed almost linearly as the soil strength increased. The delay was greatest in Dongjinbyeo among rice varieties and in Echinochloa oryzicola among barnyardgrasses. Mesocotyl length increased as soil strength increased up to 2 to 3kg / $\textrm{cm}^2$ in Dongjinbyeo and Dadajo in 17$^{\circ}C$ and $25^{\circ}C$, and up to 6kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ in Galsaekggaraksharebyeo and Italiconaverneco in $25^{\circ}C$. Dongjinbyeo showed the least elongation of mesocotyl among rice varieties in any soil strength. The total length of mesotyl, first internode and incomplete leaf showed little variation with soil strength. The total length was longer than the 4cm covering depth in other varieties except Dongjinbyeo. This might have caused the lower emergence rate in Dongjinbyeo than other varieties in higher soil strength.

  • To clarify the proper nitrogen application level for rasing rice infant seedling under different nursery soil, Dongjinbyeo was raised at seedling box with different basal nitrogen level. The results are as follows. The higher the nitrogen level was, the lower emergence rate and the lower establishment rate. The establishment rate was less than 90%, when the nitrogen was more than 2g/box in hill soil and more than 1g/box in paddy soil. The more the nitrogen level was, the higher the seedling height in hill soil, but was higher in the order of N-2, 3, 1 and 0g /box. Leaf number wasn't significantly different between nusery soils and among nitrogen levels when seedling was raised more than 6 days. The endosperm survival rate was decreased as the increased nitrogen level, but wasn't different between the nursery soils. Amount of root was decreased as the increased nitrogen level in paddy soil, but was heavier in the order of N-1, 0, 2 and 3g /box in hill soil. Mat formation was better as the nitrogen level was decreased in all nursery soils. Considering the emergence rate, seedling charactors and mat formation, the proper nitrogen levels seemed to be 2g /box for hill soil and 1g /box for paddy soil.

  • The objectives of this study were to investigate weather conditions which induced discolored grains and viviparous germination, and to evaluate yield responses following viviparous germination during mid- and late- ripening stage, the submergence during reproductive growth stage, and lodging in the yellow ripe stage. Weather conditions which caused glume discoloration at heading stage were 21.3-26.4$^{\circ}C$ in average temperature, 75.2-98.4% in relative humidity, 19.3 in transpiration coefficient and 10.8-13.8 m/sec. in wind speed. Yield reduction was 26-27% and 10~17%, respectively, when the glume discoloration rates were 63.2-65.7% and 38.3-45.2%, obviously due to the decrease in percent of fertile grain and ripening ratio. Weather conditions during continuous rain for 7 days were 96% in relative humidity, 18.9$^{\circ}C$ in average temperature, 21.9$^{\circ}C$ in maximum temperature, and 16.8$^{\circ}C$ in minimum temperature, causing the most viviparous germination in Juanbyeo(45.5%), followed by Jinbubyeo(14.5%), Bongkwangbyeo(14.2%), and Obongbyeo(12.6%). Lateral tillers started to occur when the submergence at the depth of 1.5-2 m lasted one day during the reproductive growth stage. The submergence for 2-3 days at 3-4 m of water depth induced 269-571 lateral tillers/m$^2$, supporting 32-52% of the total yield. The rice yield in the paddy fields which were left under the lodging conditions until harvesting was not different compared to that of the paddy fields which were kept upright by tieing them together after lodging, but perfect grain ratio decreased about 9.1% in the transplanting culture and 12.5% in the direct seeding culture on dry paddy field because of the increase in immature grains.

  • Sowing time of barley after cultivation of rice has frequently been delayed because of rainfall or some other reasons by rice cultivation. Partial tillage direct grain seeder with eight row, which had been developed for rice sowing and showed many advantages in wet field, were tested for barley sowing. After flooding during $2{\sim}3days$, plots were designed to make wet condition. Three sowing methods were tested; high ridged broadcasting, plat drill seeding and partial tillage direct grain seeding. It were impossible to sow properly even in 27% of soil water content by high ridged broadcasting, plat drill seeding but could be possible to sow normally by partial tillage direct grain seeder in 42% of soil water content as good as in 27% of soil water content. Initial growth condition after sowing in plots of partial tillage direct grain seeder were normal even in plots sown in more than 50% of soil water content. No. of spike, which was $508/m^2$, in plot of partial tillage direct grain seeder sowed at 30% soil water content was better than plat drill seeding, $404/m^2$. Yield and yield components of plot of partial tillage direct grain seeder, were higher than plot sowed by plat drill seeder in same soil water content. Partial tillage direct grain seeding can be a good sowing way for barley especially in wet condition. However, parts of seeder have to be improved for barley sowing; 1) ridged width of partial tillage direct grain seeder should be $10{\sim}20cm$ wider than 10 cm, which is necessary for drainage during barley growing season in wet paddy field. 2) sowing width of partial tillage direct grain seeder was not same with one of drill seeder which was the best width for light interception and should be shorter than 30cm.

  • Despite the fact that understanding customers satisfaction with transportation services is a subject of great importance, authors, so far, found no systematic researches referred to that issue. From this point, studying the satisfaction with subways services can be extremely useful. Empirical study of key factors in the satisfaction with subway services is the departure point, which holds as objectives, and we believe, will contribute to overall increasing in the number of subways services used and in the amount of public benefits derived from that usage. In order to achieve these goals: First, several items referred to some key factors in the satisfaction of subway usage were systemized. Second, a research of specific weights attached to those key factors by subway passengers was conducted. Knowledge of the satisfaction variables system can provide deep insights into ones perceptual experience when using a subway. The results were as follows: Various interrelated factors compose a passengers satisfaction with subway services. People do not just use subway passively; a number of key factors, like physical and personal services, exact timing, easiness to access etc. determine the passengers satisfaction with subway. In order to find out specific weights of these key factors multiple regression analysis was employed. Results showed that satisfaction with subway is determined by (in order of importance) easiness to access, quality of physical services, friendliness of working stuff and timing exactness. According to the findings, passengers do not use subway as a simple mean of transportation, rather they perceive it as a complex combination of environmental elements and overall satisfaction depends on these various factors. Therefore, to learn passengers satisfaction with subways services, passengers subway experience must be thoroughly studied and analyzed, and this is where papers value resides.

  • This experiment was conducted to clarify the characteristics of germination and emergence of Panicum dichotomiflorum which is a noxious weed species in direct-seeded rice field. P. dichotomiflorum was planted with several treatments such as different depths of irrigation to verifiy the ecological habits of seedling emergence and growth. In order to know the germination characteristics, Panicum dichotomiflorum seeds, pretreated with low-temperature($4^{\circ}C$) stratification for breaking the dormancy, were germinated under different temperature regimes and water potentials. Germination rates of P. dichotomiflorum was increased from 0% of dormant seed to 1%, 35% and 44% by stratification for 21, 28 and 42 days, respectively. Two dominant weed species in directseeded rice fields, Echinochloa crus-galli and Panicum dichotomitlorum, showed different germination habit under different temperature regimes. Echinochloa crus-galli showed more higher germination rate than Panicum dichotomiflorum at relatively low temperature regime(20/$10^{\circ}C$). Both species germinated faster at 30/$20^{\circ}C$ than at 20/$10^{\circ}C$. When the water potential was lowered, germination of Panicum dichotomiflorum was reduced more drastically than Echinochloa crus-galli. The critical water potential for germination of P. dichotomiflorum was -0.7MPa but Echinochloa crus-galli was affected slightly by the same water potential. The results showed that Echinochloa crus-galli can germinate under more wide range of soil water potential than Panicum dichotomiflorum. Emergence of P. dichotomiflorum was highly affected by irrigation depth and the level of water table. When the depth of irrigation water was increased, emergence of P. dichotomiflorum was dragged and emergence rate showed significant difference under the irrigation depth deeper than 6cm. The maximum depth of irrigation water for survival of Panicum dichotomiflorum seedling was 9cm.

  • Soil crusting and hardening as a result of drying after rainfall were examined in relation to seedling emergence by employing five rice varieties (Italiconaverneco, Dadazo, and Galsaekggarakshare, Dongjinbyeo and Sumjinbyeo) and two barnyardgrass species (E. crus-gallj var. oryzjcola and E. crus-galli var. praticola). Sandy loam, loam, and silty loam soils were used. The artificial rainfall of 0, 20 and 40mm were applied after sowing and covering with 4cm soil. Air temperature and solar radiation averaged over 9 days after seeding was 31.3$^{\circ}C$ and 16.9MJ /m$^2$, respectively. Soil strength increased rapidly by drying after artificial rainfall, being greater in soils with greater amount of clay and artificial rainfall. Soil crust was formed on the surface with artificial rainfall in all soils tested. However, soil crust was exfoliated in silty loam and loam soil, and lifted as seedlings emerge. Seedling emergence of rice varieties was decreased by rainfall treatments. Sumjinbyeo and Dongjinbyeo showed much poorer seedling emergence especially in sandy loam soil than the other varieties. Poor seedling emergence of these varieties might have been caused by delayed seedling emergence which had made them expose to greater soil strength. Seedling emergence of barnyardgrasses showed no differences among soil textures and rainfall treatments, because they emerged rapidly before soil crusting and hardening were proceeded enough to hamper seedling emergence. Seedling emergence of Sumjinbyeo and Dongjinbyeo decreased with increasing soil strength averaged over 3 days to 5 days after seeding, being lowered to 80% at soil strength of 1.0kg/cm$^2$ and to 50% at 1.7kg/cm$^2$. Emergence speed of barnyardgrasses was faster than rice varieties, and E. crus-galli var. oryzjcola than E. crus-galli var. praticola. Italiconaverneco and Dadazo showed faster emergence in rice varieties. Galsaekggarakshare showed slower emergence speed than these two varieties with similar seedling emergence percentage. The greater and faster elongations of mesocotyl and incomplete leaf in rice, and of mesocotyl in barnyardgrass were the characteristics responsible for higher seedling emergence rate in the environment examined.
