  • The purpose of this study examines the elderly hemodialysis patients' Health-related quality in life(HRQL) and investigates the relationship between HRQL and transition of health condition. The subject were 443 elderly hemodialysis patients(over 65 years old) in Seoul and Gyeonggi province. The Health-related quality of life scale was used in this research, in which were analysed a wide range of statistical descriptive analysis, Pearson's correlation, reliability analysis, multiple regression and the Scheffe test. The results were as follows. The HRQL were statiscally significant difference by Gender, Educational level, Live with spouse, Best supporter, and Number of Disease. Also the factor related to transition of health condition was Number of Disease. The transition of health condition accounted for 13.9% of variance in HRQL and Number of Disease accounted for an additional 7.4% of HRQL. The factors, which influenced finally on the HRQL in the elderly hemodialysis patients, were transition of health condition and number of disease. In conclusion adequate hemodialysis treatment and social services should be provided in accordance with the factors affecting HRQL in order to improve the HRQL for elderly hemodialysis patients.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine factors influencing health related quality of life(HRQOL) in patients with hypertension. Methods: This study carried out secondary analysis using the data from the $5^{th}$ Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Subject samples who were selected are 1,240 hypertension patients. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, traditional classic regression, and quantile regression. Results: Restriction of activity, depressive mood, and subjective health status had only significant effects on HRQOL(p<.001). After quantile regression, depressive mood and subjective health status had only significant at 20%(p<.001), 40%(p<.001), and 60%(p<.01) of HRQOL. Perceived stress(p<.001) and regular exercise(p<.01) had only significant at 20% of HRQOL. Current drinking status had only significant at 20%(p<.001) and 80%(p<.01) of HRQOL. Conclusions: Quantile regression maybe a better statistical tool in understanding the heterogeneous effect of hypertension patient's HRQOL as health outcome. Therefore interventions are needed for patients with hypertension to manage each of the factors affecting the patient's perceived health status by each quantile.

This study used data from the 7th-3 Period Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Data were analyzed using the SPSS program. The health related quality of life of living-alone elderly was lower than that of living-together elderly. The significant predictors of health related quality of life of living-alone elderly were depression, subjective health status, age, stress. The significant predictors of health related quality of life of living-together elderly were depression, subjective health status, age, gender. injury, stress. These results suggested that the living type affect the health related quality of life. The influencing factors should be reflected in the relevant program development.

  • This study was executed to provide the basic data that can be helpful for a program aiming at the enhancement of life quality or establishment of policy related to public health by analyzing the importance of health state among the middle-aged adults when it came to the decision of life quality. For 160 adults who were older than 40 years old, a survey was conducted and the results were derived by using t-test, one way ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis. Followings are the outcome of the study. According to such results, it was known that the level of general life quality and oral health related life quality were shown to be different depending on symptoms of depression and xerostomia. Therefore, it suggests that prevention and early intervention of depression and xerostomia will make a great contribution to improve the life quality among the middle-aged adults.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to confirm the correlation between oral frailty and health-related quality of life (HINT-8) among older adults in Korea. Methods: The data of 1,318 individuals aged ≥65 years who participated in the eighth Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2019) were analyzed using complex sample statistical analysis. Results: Chewing discomfort was found to decrease the HINT-8 scores by 1.246, 1.324, and 1.089 times in the physical, social, and mental domains, respectively. Speech discomfort was found to decrease the HINT-8 scores by 1.275, 1.449, and 1.175 times in the physical, social, and mental domains, respectively. The HINT-8 scores of participants with ≤19 natural teeth were lower in the physical and social domains. Similarly, the HINT-8 scores of participants with brushing frequency of ≤2 were lower in the positive health domain. Non-use of oral hygiene products led to a reduction in the HINT-8 score in the social health domain. Conclusions: Oral frailty in older adults reduces the health-related quality of life. Thus, it is necessary to formulate policies to manage oral frailty in this population and develop specialized programs for the management of oral frailty.

  • Background: Strategically improving health-related quality of life (HRQOL) should be discussed among overweight middle-aged women who are vulnerable to low HRQOL. We examined firstly if overweight middle-aged women would have significantly lower levels of HRQOL and health-promoting behaviors than normal-weight middle-aged women, and to examine secondly if health-promoting behaviors would be significantly associated with generic and obesity-specific HRQOLs within the overweight middle-aged women. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional, comparative study. Participants were 119 women aged 30-49 years who were recruited from a community in Seoul, South Korea; 63 women for the overweight group who were recruited from a baseline sample of the Community-Based Heart and Weight Management Trial, while 56 for the normal-weight group who were recruited separetely. Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (HPLP II), World Health Organization Quality of Life-brief version (WHOQOL-BREF) of a generic HRQOL measure, and Impact of Weight on Quality of Life-Lite (IWQOL-Lite) of an obesity-specific HRQOL measure were used. Results: Compared to the normal-weight group, the overweight group showed significantly lower scores of total WHOQOL-BREF as well as some HPLP II subscales including stress management (P=0.029). Among the HPLP II subscales, stress management was significantly and positively associated with total WHOQOL-BREF (${\beta}=1.58$, P=0.003) and self-esteem IWQOL-Lite (${\beta}=11.58$, P=0.034) among the overweight group. Conclusions: Among middle-aged overweight women, low levels of health-promoting behavior for stress management were shown, which should be strategically increased for improving their generic and obesity-specific HRQOLs.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of subjective systemic health status and health behavior on the oral health-related quality of life through a convergence study. The data collected by a survey on adults living in Busan Metropolitan City were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 program. The oral health-related quality of life of the non-smoking group was higher than that of the smoking group, and the oral health-related quality of life was higher in the high group for the subjective systemic health status and health behavior than in the low group. Subjective systemic health status and health behavior both were found to have a positive (+) influence on oral health-related quality of life, and especially the subjective systemic health status had a greater influence. Therefore, as the improvement of oral health-related quality of life is expected through systemic health, it is considered that development of convergence education programs could be an important medium to educate the associated importance of systemic health and oral health.

  • This study was conducted to identify an influence of subjective oral health status and oral health literacy on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in elderly. Participants in this cross-sectional survey were 248 aged over 65 older people in Jecheon city. Data were collected from July. 3 to 21, 2016 using the self-report questionnaire. Subjective oral health status, oral health literacy and oral health-related quality of life were measured. The results of multiple regression analysis showed that subjective oral health status, oral health literacy, cohabitant, the number of teeth, education level and religion significantly predicted OHRQoL in the elderly people, explaining 44.3% of the variance. Therefore, health care providers should consider that interventions preventing tooth loss and improving oral health status and oral health literacy are required to enhance the OHRQoL in the elderly people.
