  • Cerebral palsy is one of the primary handicapping conditions of childhood. The prevalence of malocclusions in patients with cerebral palsy is approximately twice than in general population. Even though these high rates of malocclusions, most clinicians may feel uncomfortable about treating such problems to reduce inclination of anterior teeth because to reduce of protrusion makes to decrease risk of trauma. This is the case report about mitigation of maxillary anterior teeth protrusion in patient with cerebral palsy. A 14 year old boy who had cerebral palsy visited our dental hospital. He had severe protrusive maxillary anterior teeth and narrow arch form. He was experienced at using Castillo morales appliance in early childhood. He had mild mental retardation and was able to learn simple skills. He and his parents had willing to improve his dental problems. A gentle impression taking on maxilla was done. Removable appliance was made including median screw and labial bow. We provide a period of adaption for 3 weeks. After of anterior teeth through activation of labial bow was done once a month by dentist. The treatment carried out for 10 months and we could observe reduced labial inclination of maxillary right central incisor and more wide arch form. Hawley type retainer was set at maxilla for retention. In conclusion, accompanying careful case selection and treatment, patient with cerebral palsy can be treated and should not be ignored their orthodontic needs.

  • The aim of this study was to explore the reliability and validity of the Korean version of the Recovery Assessment Scale in psychiatric patients. The original RAS was translated into Korean and the content was verified through back-translation procedures. This study included 142 patients who had chronic mental illness and were aged 18 or older. The subjects were assessed by using RAS-K, the 12-item Dispositional Hope Scale(DHS), the 28-item Mental Health Recovery Measure(MHRM), the 32-item Behavior and Symptom Identification Scale (BASIS-32). In the reliability test, Crobach's a coefficient and test-retest reliabilities were 0.92 and 0.79, respectively, indicating that the RAS-K has good internal consistency. In the analysis of the concurrent validity of the RAS-K, there were significant correlations between the RAS-K and DHS(r=.675, p<0.01), and between the RAS-K and MHRM(r=.816, p<0.01), but lower correlations with symptoms and clinician-related measures of psychiatric functioning. Factor analysis resulted in a five factor solution accounting for 62.476% of the common variance. Our study indicates that the RAS-K is an appropriate instrument to assess recovery in Korean psychiatric patients.

  • This study was conducted to identify factors influencing depression symptoms among college students. To accomplish this, a self-administered questionnaire was distributed to 546 college students from October 1st to November 30th, 2015. Univariate analysis, logistic regression, and multivariate regression analysis between variables were then conducted using depression symptoms as the dependent variable and other relevant factors as independent variables. The level of depression among the subjects differed significantly according to personal attributes, family life and school life characteristics, as well as health related behavioral characteristics. The risk of depression was significantly higher in the lower group than the higher group of family and friends social support, the lower group than the higher group of self-esteem, the lower group than the higher group of locus of control, and in the high risk stress group than the normal stress group. Factors influencing depression symptoms included religion, social support from family, social support from friends, interpersonal dependency, locus of control, and stress were identified as significant variables, indicating that depression among college students is related to diverse elements including sociodemographic characteristics, social support from family/friends, interpersonal dependency, locus of control, and stress. Depression symptoms significantly increased when social support from family or friends, low psychological behavior characteristics are low, and when stress is high. Thus, it is necessary to understand factors related to depression and reduce them to decrease depression levels of college students.

  • This study is conducted with the aim of providing basic data for oral health improvement of pregnant woman and development of oral health education program by analyzing factors influencing the oral health related behavior of pregnant woman applying health belief model which is theoretical model of explaining individual's behavior change. For 217 expectant mothers who visited 8 obstetrics and 1 maternity class located in Seoul, Gyeonggi and Incheon from August 1 to 31, 2014, data analysis was implemented using self-administered questionnaire. Before the completion of self-administered questionnaire, the subjects were fully informed of explanatory note and consented on taking part in the research for the consideration of ethical aspect. Collected materials were treated by PASW Statistics ver. 18.0 program and following results were acquired. Health belief factor which infuences oral health related behavior of pregnant woman resulted that perceived severity influences on oral examination during pregnancy and dental treatment during pregnancy, and perceived benefits influences on oral examination during pregnancy, and perceived barriers on toothbrushing after having a snack, toothbrush with rotation method and oral examination during pregnancy, and self-efficacy influences on use of oral hygiene products after toothbrushing and oral examination during pregnancy. With these research results, I suggest that perceived severity of health belief factor, perceived benefits, perceived barrier and self-efficacy influence oral health related behavior of pregnant woman. And specific oral health education program for pregnant woman is necessary to increase perceived severity of pregnant woman, perceived benefits and self-efficacy and to reduce perceived barriers.

  • Purpose: The health risk of women increases after menopause. This study evaluated the effectiveness of a public health center-based nutrition education program for hypertension in women older than 50 years of age. Methods: The program included 8-week nutrition education and 8-week follow-up with keeping a health diary and nutrition counseling. The program was evaluated three times: before and after the nutrition education, and after the follow-up. The subjects were classified into hypertensives (n = 44) or normotensives (n = 71). Results: The rate of taking antihypertensive drugs in the hypertensive group was 86.4%. The systolic blood pressure decreased in the hypertensive and normotensive groups after nutrition education (p < 0.05). The body weight (p < 0.001), BMI (p < 0.001), waist circumference (p < 0.001), and percent body fat (p < 0.01) were also decreased after nutrition education in both groups. The hypertensive group showed an increase in HDL-cholesterol level (p < 0.001) and decreases in triglycerides (p < 0.01) and LDL-cholesterol (p < 0.05) levels after completion of the program. The normotensive group also displayed significant changes in HDL-cholesterol (p < 0.001) and triglycerides (p < 0.01). The dietary habits and nutrition knowledge on sodium and hypertension were improved in both groups (p < 0.001). The total score of dietary behavior related to the sodium intake was improved in the normotensive group (p < 0.001). The total score of the high sodium dish frequency questionnaire decreased in both groups after nutrition education and completion of the program compared to that before the program. Decreases in the consumption frequencies of noodles, pot stews and stews, Kimchi, and beverages were significant. The total self-efficacy score was increased in both groups by the program (p < 0.001). In particular, the hypertensive group showed improvement in all items. Conclusion: This public health center-based nutrition education program may contribute to the prevention and management of hypertension and chronic diseases in women over 50 years of age.

  • The study investigated information about the effects of message framing on colorectal cancer(CRC) screening related health beliefs and compliance with the CRC screening test within the theoretical framework of the prospect theory and the Health belief model (HBM). This study was using a non-randomized controlled quasi-experimental design. One hundred and sixty-four in the industrial workers who were currently nonadherent to guidelines for receiving screening were assigned to one of three experimental conditions: (a) gain-framed message, (b) loss-framed message, and (c) general-framed message. CRC screening-related health beliefs was self-reported after the intervention. And the immunoassay Fecal Occult Blood Test (iFOBT) kit was collected at 1 week. The research finding were analyzed by $x^2$ test and one-way ANOVA using SPSS 21.0. The loss-framed message group had higher perceived susceptibility, severity and benefit than the gain-framed message and general message. The participation rate for the immunoassay Fecal Occult Blood Test(iFOBT) was highest in the loss-framed message group. The loss framed messages more effective to enhance screening behavior. The present results provide a theoretical basis for developing educational guidelines for CRC testing and could be used for performing comprehensive approach by predicting and suggesting the practical effects according to message type in advance.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate the Home Economics(HE) Flipped Problem-Based Learning(FPBL) education plans focusing on 'food selection and storage' unit for middle school students. The results of this study are as follows. First, middle school students who participated in the class had mainly experienced lecture-style classes previously, but they preferred group activity classes to lecture-style classes. Their 'preferred on-line class tools' was 'Miricanvas', and the 'helpful on-line class tools for learning' was 'Tinkerbell'. Second, the HE FPBL education plan was designed and developed to conduct block time classes, twice a week for 3 weeks by applying the '13 stages of FPBL'. The main topic of the class is "food selection and storage that protects health and the environment". The practical and unstructured problems in the FPBL was to participate in the 'Food Selection and Storage to Protect Health and Environment' mission development contest of a TV entertainment program. Learning materials(stepping video, reading materials, activity sheets, and evaluation tools for process-based evaluation) were developed. The 206 senior students at a middle school in Haeundae-gu, Busan, took the class for three weeks and evaluated it as a good class that helps them learn, is satisfactory, interesting, and suitable, leads to class participation, and is differentiated from other teaching methods.

  • As small sized bio-sensors and digital yarns are developed, digital wear measuring vital signs can be used for individuals' health, the elderly care and sports activities. This paper discusses a database structure for analyzing stress state, pulses, positions, exercise amount of user based on vital signs measured for 24 hours measured by the wear and GPS information, and a storage for storing XML documents following a standard HL7 meta-model. By analyzing the stored information, the system identifies the stress state and exercise amount of users. Pulses, exercise intensity and emergency situations can be also detected by the system in real time. This paper discusses the implementation of a system enabling to acquire and analyze vital signals to understand user behavior patterns.
