Regarding a long-term strategic plan in the food and agriculture sector, R&D policies and investment trends in major overseas countries are reviewel. The importance of efficient resource management is emphasized along with continuous government support for R&D in the agri-food industry. In response to facing social issues such as climate change, food security, food safety, health, and environment, research and innovation agenda is mainly focused on harmony between economy and environment, human nutrition and health as well as animal and plant health, and an integrated ecosystem approach. Particularly in the food sector, public investment is generally made in food safety, nutrition and health, and private investment for food processing and manufacturing. Public-private collaboration is carried out in order to enhance the efficiency of R&D innovation and development strategies in the agri-food industry.

본고는 국민건강과 영양사들의 권익보호를 위해 다양한 활동을 벌이고 있는 (사)대한영양사협회(이하 영양사협회)를 소개코자 한다. 국민영양관리법 제정 등 영양에 대한 관심이 높아지면서 단체급식소 등에서 근무하는 영양사들의 역할 또한 중요하게 부각되고 있다. 계란과 닭고기는 국민의 건강을 책임지고 있는 대표적인 영양식품으로 올바른 홍보와 소비를 높이기 위해 양계업계와 영양사협회의 협조와 역할이 중요하게 다가서고 있다.

Oral health is a critical factor for diagnosing overall health, as poor oral health has a negative impact on food intake and results in deterioration of nutritional status. The purpose of this study was to research the needs for food developments for the elderly based on their oral and overall health status. Oral status was significantly associated with self-reported health status, and dry mouth (lack of saliva) especially showed a significant relationship with negative self-perception of both oral and overall health. For both elderly men and women, fish and leafy vegetables were the most preferred side dishes. Bread, rice cake, and beverage-type foods were also preferred for snack development. Disease status of the elderly was significantly related with their preference for food development. For instance, those with diabetes were more likely to ask for anti-diabetic diets. The most important factor for the elderly in choosing food was nutritional balance, and less than 3,000 won was cited as an affordable price. The results could be utilized as basic data to develop foods for the elderly.

이미 작고한 중국의 자도자 등소평이 복용하여 장소를 누렸다고 하는 동충하초. 1992년 일본 히로시마에서 개최된 국제육상경기대회에서 마준렌이 이끄는 중국의 육상선수들이 신기록을 양산한 비결로 알려지면서 더욱 유명해진 버섯이다(1). 그런데 최근 국내에서 동충하초가 건강식품으로 인지도가 높아지면서 이의 판매를 둘러싸고 이해가 대립된 기관 또는 농민 집단 사이에 마찰이 발생하고, 일반 소비자는 동충하초에 관한 정확한 지식이나 정보가 없는 가운데 상인들의 상술에 농락당할 우려가 있어 자칫 건강에 유익한 새로운 식품소재에 대한 불신이 높아질 수 있는 문제가 발생하고 있다. 따라서 저자는 동충하초에 대한 모든 사람들의 이해를돕고자 그 동안 진행되어 온 상황을 설명하고 (1999년 9월까지), 여기에 내포된 문제점을 지적하였으며, 끝으로 동충하초를 국내 산업에 국한할 문제가 아니라 전세계적으로 동충하초 시장을 석권할 수 있는 발전방향과 규제완화 필요성을 제기하였다. 동충하초에 관한 일반 사항과 효능에 관하여는 저자들이 식품과학과 산업에 투고한 총설에 관련 문헌을 종합하여 요약한 바있다.

In this study, we aimed to identify the impact of socioeconomic characteristics on the health status of Chinese, which suggests that there might be the phenomena of health inequality in China. We used the year 2000, 2004 and 2009 pooled cross-sectional data of China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS), and utilized the Ordinary Least Square model (OLS) and Ordered Logit Estimation Method for this purpose. Empirical results showed that socioeconomic status and year dummy variables have a meaningful impact on Chinese health status. Therefore, we conclude that the phenomenon of health inequality has existed in China since 2000.

Food insecurity is associated with poor health outcomes. In particular, previous studies marked the adverse outcomes on mental health. This study examined the association of food insecurity and mental health in Korean adults using the data from the 2013 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES). The study population was 5,685 adults in Korea. Food insecurity was examined using 18-items. A diagnosis of depression was considered to be depression. Depressive symptoms were defined as more than 2 weeks of depression feelings. Multivariate logistic regression models examined the associations between food insecurity and depression and depressive symptom. The overall prevalence of depression was 3.8% in the participants. Food insecurity was associated significantly with depression and depressive symptom in the unadjusted and age and sex adjusted model. Food insecurity was associated with depression, depressive symptoms in the multivariate logistic regression model (OR:3.49, OR:3.70). Marginal food insecurity was not associated with depression in the multivariate logistic regression model. The results showed that food insecurity is associated with depression and depressive symptoms in adults. Multi-disciplinary interventions are needed including nutrition, health, health policy, and a healthy environment for the food insecurity group to achieve a better health outcome, especially mental health.

This study examined the consumer complaining behavior after purchasing functional health foods and investigated the variables which influence public and private consumer complaining behavior. The subjects of this study were 206 consumers who were dissatisfied after purchasing functional health foods. The survey was conducted during September. 15-October 6, 2003. Percentiles, frequencies, means, $X^2$ and logistic regression were utilized for data analysis with SPSS program. Major findings were as follows: 1 The groups reporting public complaining behavior were over college graduate, high income workers, professional and clerical workers(demographic variables). Purchasing related variable were high purchasing price, strategy of sales person and. ad, purchasing channel through door to door sales, telemarketing, multi level sales, and home shopping, purchasing purpose of weight control and cosmetic. 2. The groups reporting private complaining behavior were high school graduate, low income workers, housewives and the unemployed(demographic variables). Purchasing related variable were low purchasing price, the case of consumer need, purchasing in the shop, purchasing purpose of health restoration.
