Sturge-Weber Syndrome is a rare congenital disorder and is characterized by port wine nevus following one or more divisions of trigeminal nerve, ocular involvement(eg, glaucoma) and neurologic involvement(eg, epilepsy, mental retardation). Oral menifestations include unilateral blood vessel expansion of the oral mucosa and gingiva, gingival hyperplasia, giant tooth, ipsilateral large tongue, blood vessel anomaly of maxilla or mandible and abnormal eruption sequence. This case report is about 8-year-old Sturge-Weber Syndrome patient presented violet discoloration on upper gingiva and buccal mucosa, gingival hyperplasia and abnormal eruption sequence. In this case, we performed lingual frenectomy and periodic oral hygiene management, and obtained satisfactory result.

전 세계적으로 기후변화로 인한 자연재난은 피해의 규모에 따라 대형화 다양화 집중화 현상이 일어나고 있으며, 이로 인한 사회 경제적 피해가 과거에 비해 지속적으로 증가하고 있다. 한국에서는 이러한 자연재난 중 피해의 90%이상이 수해 풍해 설해 등으로 조사되었으며, 특히, 수해에 의한 피해가 자연재난으로 발생하는 피해 중 가장 큰 비중을 차지하고 있다. 최근에는 2014년 일본의 태풍 '판폰'과 '봉퐁', 2013년 중국의 태풍 '피토'와 '다나스', 2012년 한국의 태풍 '볼라벤', '덴빈', '산바' 등 연속적인 호우사상의 내습으로 인한 피해가 발생함에 따라 동시 다발적인 거대 호우사상의 발생에 대한 대비책이 시급한 실정이다. 국내 외적으로 단일 호우사상으로 인한 홍수 피해 대책에 관한 연구는 활발하게 이루어지고 있지만, 동시다발적 연속적인 호우사상으로 인한 홍수 피해 대책 연구는 미비한 실정이다. 이에 따라 본 연구에서는 단기간에 거대 호우사상이 동시 다발적 연속적으로 나타나는 현상을 거대홍수라고 정의하고, 거대홍수에 대응하기 위해서 거대홍수 발생에 따른 홍수범람 및 홍수피해액을 산정하였다. 홍수범람모의를 통해 거대홍수가 유역전체에 미치는 영향을 파악하고, 다차원홍수피해산정법(MD-FDA)을 통해 홍수 피해액을 산정하여 거대홍수방어 대책 수립의 참고 자료로써 활용할 수 있을 것이다.

Osteoma is the most common benign tumor originating in the paranasal sinuses and the frontal sinus is the most frequent site of osteoma of paranasal sinuses. Osteoma may occur at any age but the most frequent incidence is the third decade and those are histologically classified as compact, cancellous and mixed type. Recently, the authors have seen a patient with exophthalmos and downward displacement of eyeball due to a huge osteoma in the left frontal sinus which was removed by osteoplastic operation of the frontal sinus and the frontal sinus defect was implanted with adipose tissue from the patient own left abdomen. We report this case with review of the literature.

Macroglossia is an obstacle in regard to general prosthodontic restoration. Not only is it difficult to obtain support and stability from dentures manufactured from normal protocol, obtaining efficacy from basic mastication is also difficult. In such cases, realizing harmony between the occlusion and surrounding muscle structures may be important with regard to manufacture of stable full dentures, and it is necessary to form the appropriate polished surface for this case. The neutral zone is defined as the potential area resulting from the neuromuscular function that results in equilibrium between the outward force exerted by the tongue and the inward force exerted by the lips and cheeks. The artificial teeth of the full denture lies in this area, and if the polished zone follows the anatomic form of the dynamic muscles, the movement of the muscles simply acts as an element of stabilizing the dentures improving the esthetics through facial support.

Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome comprises multiple congenital anomalies with a risk of development of childhood tumors. Macroglossia is the predominent finding in Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome and other findings include postnatal somatic gigantism, abdominal wall defects, nevus flammeus of the face, congenital heart defects, and cleft palate. The aim of this case presentation is to describe the dental treatment of a child with Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome. A 3-year-old boy with Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome visited to the Seoul National University Dental Hospital for dental evaluation and treatment. Due to the multiple caries and poor cooperation, we planned to perform the dental procedure under general anesthesia. The dental procedure was successfully performed and there was no airway complications after extubation. This case suggests that general anesthesia may be useful for the patient with uncooperative Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome, since macroglossia and laryngomalacia may exacerbates airway compromise during dental sedation.

This is case report of true class III malocclusion with macroglossia is corrected by glossectomy in 13 years female patient. After orthodontic treatment, the patient is bound to glossectomy because the corrected condition is relapsed to the previous condition due to relatively enlarged tongue compared with the original dental arch. By the interpretation of the cephalogram and model analysis, it is approved that the growth pattern and direction are normal range and mandible is located anterioly to the cranium. The results are follows: 1. We could treat the true Cl III malocclusion. 2. We could prevent the relapse of the treated condition by the surgical intervention, such as partial glossectomy. 3. Sensory, speech, swallowing and so other functions after the operation have been with in normal limit without any serious complications or seguellae.

Macroglossia can cause dentomusculoskeletal deformities, instability of orthodontic and orthognathic surgical treatment, and create masticatory, speech and airway management problems. To determine whether a reduction glossectomy is necessary, it will important to identify the signs and symptoms of macroglossia. Development of dentoskeletal changes directly related with tongue size, such as an anterior open bite or a Angle Class III malocclusion tendency, would indicate that reduction glossectomy may be beneficial. For reduction glossectomy, several techniques have been reported. However, in most techniques the tip of tongue is removed. So its excision causes the loss of most mobile and sensitive portion of the tongue, and creates ankylosed, globular tongue. To avoid such problems, central tongue reduction technique have been proposed. This article will introduce central tongue reduction for anterior openbite case associated with macroglossia.

Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome is an autosomal dominant growth excess disorder, which occurs with a reported incidence of 1 in 13,700 to 1 in 17,000 live births. It constitutes a discrete clinicopathologic entity characterized by macroglossia, abdominal wall defects (omphalocele), visceromegaly, gigantism, hemihypertrophy, hypoglycemia, and the increased risk of solid tumor development from multiple cell lines. A macroglossia is a key component of the syndrome, and can lead to cosmetic, functional and psychologic disorder. This report shows a 5-year-old patient with Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome, who had macroglossia and received reduction glossectomy.
