Advances in Shoreline Detection using Satellite Imagery (위성영상을 활용한 해안선 탐지 연구동향)

  • To comprehensively grasp the dynamic changes in the coastal terrain and coastal erosion, it is imperative to incorporate temporal and spatial continuity through frequent and continuous monitoring. Recently, there has been a proliferation of research in coastal monitoring using remote sensing, accompanied by advancements in image monitoring and analysis technologies. Remote sensing, typically involves collection of images from aircraft or satellites from a distance, and offers distinct advantages in swiftly and accurately analyzing coastal terrain changes, leading to an escalating trend in its utilization. Remote satellite image-based coastal line detection involves defining measurable coastal lines from satellite images and extracting coastal lines by applying coastal line detection technology. Drawing from the various data sources surveyed in existing literature, this study has comprehensively analyzed encompassing the definition of coastal lines based on satellite images, current status of remote satellite imagery, existing research trends, and evolving landscape of technology for satellite image-based coastal line detection. Based on the results, research directions, on latest trends, practical techniques for ideal coastal line extraction, and enhanced integration with advanced digital monitoring were proposed. To effectively capture the changing trends and erosion levels across the entire Korean Peninsula in future, it is vital to move beyond localized monitoring and establish an active monitoring framework using digital monitoring, such as broad-scale satellite imagery. In light of these results, it is anticipated that the coastal line detection field will expedite the progression of ongoing research practices and analytical technologies.

Change Detection of Building Objects in Urban Area by Using Transfer Learning (전이학습을 활용한 도시지역 건물객체의 변화탐지)

  • To generate a deep learning model with high performance, a large training dataset should be required. However, it requires a lot of time and cost to generate a large training dataset in remote sensing. Therefore, the importance of transfer learning of deep learning model using a small dataset have been increased. In this paper, we performed transfer learning of trained model based on open datasets by using orthoimages and digital maps to detect changes of building objects in multitemporal orthoimages. For this, an initial training was performed on open dataset for change detection through the HRNet-v2 model, and transfer learning was performed on dataset by orthoimages and digital maps. To analyze the effect of transfer learning, change detection results of various deep learning models including deep learning model by transfer learning were evaluated at two test sites. In the experiments, results by transfer learning represented best accuracy, compared to those by other deep learning models. Therefore, it was confirmed that the problem of insufficient training dataset could be solved by using transfer learning, and the change detection algorithm could be effectively applied to various remote sensed imagery.

Applicability Evaluation of Deep Learning-Based Object Detection for Coastal Debris Monitoring: A Comparative Study of YOLOv8 and RT-DETR (해안쓰레기 탐지 및 모니터링에 대한 딥러닝 기반 객체 탐지 기술의 적용성 평가: YOLOv8과 RT-DETR을 중심으로)

  • Coastal debris has emerged as a salient issue due to its adverse effects on coastal aesthetics, ecological systems, and human health. In pursuit of effective countermeasures, the present study delineated the construction of a specialized image dataset for coastal debris detection and embarked on a comparative analysis between two paramount real-time object detection algorithms, YOLOv8 and RT-DETR. Rigorous assessments of robustness under multifarious conditions were instituted, subjecting the models to assorted distortion paradigms. YOLOv8 manifested a detection accuracy with a mean Average Precision (mAP) value ranging from 0.927 to 0.945 and an operational speed between 65 and 135 Frames Per Second (FPS). Conversely, RT-DETR yielded an mAP value bracket of 0.917 to 0.918 with a detection velocity spanning 40 to 53 FPS. While RT-DETR exhibited enhanced robustness against color distortions, YOLOv8 surpassed resilience under other evaluative criteria. The implications derived from this investigation are poised to furnish pivotal directives for algorithmic selection in the practical deployment of marine debris monitoring systems.

Suspectible Object Detection Method for Radiographic Images (방사선 검색기 영상 내의 의심 물체 탐지 방법)

  • This paper presents a method to extract objects in radiographic images where all the allowable combinations of segmented regions are compared to a target object using Fourier descriptor. In the object extraction for usual images, a main problem is occlusion. In radiographic images, there is an advantage that the shape of an object is not occluded by other objects. It is because radiographic images represent the amount of radiation penetrated through objects. Considering the property of no occlusion in radiographic images, the shape based descriptors can be very effective to find objects. After all, the proposed object extraction method consists of three steps of segmenting regions, finding all the combinations of the segmented regions, and matching the combinations to the shape of the target object. In finding the combinations, we reduce a lot of computations to remove unnecessary combinations before matching. In matching, we employ Fourier descriptor so that the proposed method is rotation and shift invariant. Additionally, shape normalization is adopted to be scale invariant. By experiments, we verify that the proposed method works well in extracting objects.

Positive Random Forest based Robust Object Tracking (Positive Random Forest 기반의 강건한 객체 추적)

  • In compliance with digital device growth, the proliferation of high-tech computers, the availability of high quality and inexpensive video cameras, the demands for automated video analysis is increasing, especially in field of intelligent monitor system, video compression and robot vision. That is why object tracking of computer vision comes into the spotlight. Tracking is the process of locating a moving object over time using a camera. The consideration of object's scale, rotation and shape deformation is the most important thing in robust object tracking. In this paper, we propose a robust object tracking scheme using Random Forest. Specifically, an object detection scheme based on region covariance and ZNCC(zeros mean normalized cross correlation) is adopted for estimating accurate object location. Next, the detected region will be divided into five regions for random forest-based learning. The five regions are verified by random forest. The verified regions are put into the model pool. Finally, the input model is updated for the object location correction when the region does not contain the object. The experiments shows that the proposed method produces better accurate performance with respect to object location than the existing methods.

  • 지구온난화와 기후변화로 인해 전세계적으로 기업, 정부는 ESG(Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance)에 관심을 가지고 있다. 이에 따라 폐기물 분류 및 재활용에도 관심을 가지고 있지만 국내 외 폐기물 분류는 정확하게 이루어 지지 않고 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 객체 인식의 대표 모델인 YOLOv5 를 이용해 폐기물 중 대표인 페트병 탐지 시스템을 제안한다. 제안하는 시스템은 페트병 사이 다른 폐기물을 감지해 내고 페트병 중 유색과 투명 페트병을 분류를 한다. 향후, 제안하는 시스템의 성능 평가가 필요하고 다른 폐기물로 확장이 필요하다.

A Study on Construction & Management of Urban Spatial Information Based on Digital Twin (디지털트윈 기반의 도시 공간정보 구축 및 관리에 관한 연구)

  • The Seoul Metropolitan Government is building and operating digital twin-based urban spatial information to solve various problems in the city and provide public services. Two essential factors to ensure the stable utilization of spatial information for the implementation of such a digital twin city are the latest and quality of the data. However, it is time-consuming and costly to maintain continuous updating of high-quality urban spatial information. To overcome this problem, we studied efficient urban spatial information construction technology and the operation, management, and update procedures of construction data. First, we demonstrated and applied automatic 3D building construction technology centered on point clouds using the latest hybrid sensors, confirmed that it is possible to automatically construct high-quality building models using high-density airborne lidar results, and established an efficient data management plan. By applying differentiated production methods by region, supporting detection of urban change areas through Seoul spatial feature identifiers, and producing international standard data by level, we strengthened the utilization of urban spatial information. We believe that this study can serve as a good precedent for local governments and related organizations that are considering activating urban spatial information based on digital twins, and we expect that discussions on the construction and management of spatial information as infrastructure information for city-level digital twin implementation will continue.

  • This paper proposes algorithm to reduce the computing time in a neural network that reduces transmission of data for tracking mobile objects in surveillance networks in terms of detection and communication load. Object Detection can be defined as follows : Given image sequence, which can forom a digitalized image, the goal of object detection is to determine whether or not there is any object in the image, and if present, returns its location, direction, size, and so on. But object in an given image is considerably difficult because location, size, light conditions, obstacle and so on change the overall appearance of objects, thereby making it difficult to detect them rapidly and exactly. Therefore, this paper proposes fast and exact object detection which overcomes some restrictions by using neural network. Proposed system can be object detection irrelevant to obstacle, background and pose rapidly. And neural network calculation time is decreased by reducing input vector size of neural network. Principle Component Analysis can reduce the dimension of data. In the video input in real time from a CCTV was experimented and in case of color segment, the result shows different success rate depending on camera settings. Experimental results show proposed method attains 30% higher recognition performance than the conventional method.

  • 최근 지구 온난화 현상으로 인한 기후변화로 이상기후 현상이 발생하고 있으며 이로 인해 장기적으로 폭염의 빈도 및 강도 상승에 따른 가뭄 피해 우려가 증가하고 있다. 농업 가뭄은 강수량 부족, 토양 수분 부족, 저수량 부족 등 농업분야에 영향을 주는 인자들과 관련되어 있어 농작물 생육 및 수확량 감소를 야기한다. 우리나라는 논농사가 주를 이루고 있어 국내 농업 가뭄은 주수원공인 농업용 저수지의 가용저수용량으로 판단 가능하다. 따라서 안정적인 농업용수 공급을 위해 수리시설물의 모니터링, 공급량 등의 분석이 이루어져야 하며, 농업 가뭄에 대비하기 위해 농업용 저수지의 가용저수용량 파악이 필요하다. 수자원 분야에서 지점자료의 시·공간적 한계점을 보완하기 위해 인공위성 자료를 활용한 연구가 활발히 이루어지고 있으며, 본 연구에서는 위성영상 자료 및 딥러닝 기반 알고리즘을 적용하여 농업용 저수지 수표면 탐지 및 시계열 분석을 목적으로 한다. 위성영상 자료는 5일 주기 및 10 m 공간해상도를 가진 Sentinel-2 위성영상 자료를 활용하고자 하였으며, 딥러닝에 적용하기 위하여 100장 이상의 영상 이미지를 구축하였다. 딥러닝 기반 알고리즘으로는 Convolutional Neural Network (CNN)을 활용하였으며, CNN은 주로 이미지 분류나 객체 검출 문제를 해결하기 위해 제안된 모델로 최근 픽셀 단위로 분류가 가능한 알고리즘이 개발되어 높은 정확도의 수표면 탐지가 가능할 것으로 판단된다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 CNN 기반 수표면 탐지 알고리즘을 개발하여 Sentinel-2 영상 기준 경기도 안성시를 대상으로 소규모 농업용 저수지의 수표면적에 대한 시계열 데이터를 분석하고자 한다.

Video Scene Detection using Shot Clustering based on Visual Features (시각적 특징을 기반한 샷 클러스터링을 통한 비디오 씬 탐지 기법)

  • Video data comes in the form of the unstructured and the complex structure. As the importance of efficient management and retrieval for video data increases, studies on the video parsing based on the visual features contained in the video contents are researched to reconstruct video data as the meaningful structure. The early studies on video parsing are focused on splitting video data into shots, but detecting the shot boundary defined with the physical boundary does not cosider the semantic association of video data. Recently, studies on structuralizing video shots having the semantic association to the video scene defined with the semantic boundary by utilizing clustering methods are actively progressed. Previous studies on detecting the video scene try to detect video scenes by utilizing clustering algorithms based on the similarity measure between video shots mainly depended on color features. However, the correct identification of a video shot or scene and the detection of the gradual transitions such as dissolve, fade and wipe are difficult because color features of video data contain a noise and are abruptly changed due to the intervention of an unexpected object. In this paper, to solve these problems, we propose the Scene Detector by using Color histogram, corner Edge and Object color histogram (SDCEO) that clusters similar shots organizing same event based on visual features including the color histogram, the corner edge and the object color histogram to detect video scenes. The SDCEO is worthy of notice in a sense that it uses the edge feature with the color feature, and as a result, it effectively detects the gradual transitions as well as the abrupt transitions. The SDCEO consists of the Shot Bound Identifier and the Video Scene Detector. The Shot Bound Identifier is comprised of the Color Histogram Analysis step and the Corner Edge Analysis step. In the Color Histogram Analysis step, SDCEO uses the color histogram feature to organizing shot boundaries. The color histogram, recording the percentage of each quantized color among all pixels in a frame, are chosen for their good performance, as also reported in other work of content-based image and video analysis. To organize shot boundaries, SDCEO joins associated sequential frames into shot boundaries by measuring the similarity of the color histogram between frames. In the Corner Edge Analysis step, SDCEO identifies the final shot boundaries by using the corner edge feature. SDCEO detect associated shot boundaries comparing the corner edge feature between the last frame of previous shot boundary and the first frame of next shot boundary. In the Key-frame Extraction step, SDCEO compares each frame with all frames and measures the similarity by using histogram euclidean distance, and then select the frame the most similar with all frames contained in same shot boundary as the key-frame. Video Scene Detector clusters associated shots organizing same event by utilizing the hierarchical agglomerative clustering method based on the visual features including the color histogram and the object color histogram. After detecting video scenes, SDCEO organizes final video scene by repetitive clustering until the simiarity distance between shot boundaries less than the threshold h. In this paper, we construct the prototype of SDCEO and experiments are carried out with the baseline data that are manually constructed, and the experimental results that the precision of shot boundary detection is 93.3% and the precision of video scene detection is 83.3% are satisfactory.
