  • The purpose of the present study was to examine psychometric properties of the BSI-18 in Korean adults with mental disorders. This study examined internal consistency, test-retest reliability, convergent validity, and a factor structure of the BSI. The sample consisted of 180 adults with mental disorders, who enrolled in mental hospitals and in a day hospital. Data was analysed using reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis. Major findings were as follows. The Korean version of the BSI showed good internal consistency and test-retest reliability, as well as excellent convergent validity. The original three-factor structure of the BSI-18, proposed by Derogatis, 2001, fitted to the data. These findings indicate that the BSI-18 is a reliable and valid measure as a psychiatric assessment tool and a treatment outcome measure.

  • This study examines whether educational differentials in health are greater in more recent cohorts in Korea. This study utilizes latent growth-curve modeling to examine intercohort trends in health for three educational subgroups, using panel data (2003-2007) based on a national probability sample of 9,639 adults. Among young and middle adults with less than a high school diploma, the 4-year newer cohort demonstrated better health at the same age, implying a favorable trend. Middle and older adults with college level and a high school diploma also enjoyed favorable trends in health. This study suggests the possibility that the education-based overall disparity in health is increasing, but there are variations in the trend depending on age group. The increasing disparity mainly occurred among older adults.

  • The purpose of this study is to examined the relationship between social support, self-rated health status and life satisfaction among elderlies with chronic disease. For this study, 228 respondents suffered from chronic diseases and 75 healthy elderlies aged over 65 were analyzed. For the data analysis, a structural equation analysis and multi-group analysis were performed. As a result, higher levels of social support for elderlies with chronic diseases showed a higher level of life satisfaction, and the self-rated health status was found to be a significant mediator. The social support of the elderlies with chronic diseases significantly impacted their self-rated health status differently on healthy elderlies. To improve the self-rated health status and life satisfaction of elderlies with chronic disease, social services should be offered with social support providers. This study is meaningful in suggesting selective implications for elderlies with chronic disease.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the trajectory of early adolescent aggression and to assess the effects of perceived family factors on it. This study investigated the changes in aggression over time and the effects of three family factors, parental attachment, parental monitoring, and family conflict, on the changes using multilevel modeling. The data from Korea Youth Panel Survey(KYPS) of fourth graders who were followed over five years were analyzed. The results indicated that there was a significant average increase followed by a slight decrease in aggression over time; that is, the data followed a quadratic trend. Parental attachment, parental monitoring, and family conflict had significant time-independent effects on aggression, while only family conflict had a significant time-dependent effect on aggression. These results imply that family factors need to be emphasized in planning prevention and intervention programs to reduce aggression during adolescence.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between child maltreatment, protective factors, and resilience in elementary school students. It was especially focused on what direct effect of the risk factor(child maltreatment) and protective factors to child resilience, and how protective factors affect the resilience of maltreated child. In the concrete, this study intended to find out whether protective factors mediate between child maltreatment and resilience. This study based on data from the first wave of 'Korean Youth Panel Survey(KYPS)' and subjects consisted of 2,844 4th grade elementary school students. In addition, to test the proposed models, the Mplus-structural equation modeling-was used. The major findings are as follows: First, when child maltreatment increased, resilience decreased. Second, when protective factors increased, resilience increased. Third, protective factors act as buffers against the negative effects of child maltreatment on resilience by mediation. Results indicated that child maltreatment related negatively to resilience and protective factors related positively to resilience. In addition, a mediational model in which protective factors mediates child maltreatment and resilience was supported. In conclusion, various theoretical and practical implications for social work practice focusing on the maltreated children were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of adolescent victimization on human rights consciousness and the mediating effects of depression and evaluation on their own human rights among adolescents. A total of 3,662 middle school student data from '2014 Korean Children and Youth Human Rights Survey' were used for the study. This study analysed a hypothesized research model using structural equation modeling. The main findings on structural model are as follows: First, victimization did not have a direct influence on human rights consciousness but had an indirect effect through a mediating role of evaluation on their own human rights. Secondly, victimization were related to human rights consciousness through double mediating paths of depression and evaluation on their own human right. Finally, human rights education, a control variable, had an indirect effect on human rights consciousness through self-evaluation on human rights. The results of this study suggest some implications for practical intervention and further research on the relation between adolescent victimization and human rights consciousness.

  • In order to cultivate talented people who have problem solving ability due to computational thinking according to the trend of the fourth industrial revolution, each university is actively promoting software education. This study suggests that understanding-oriented SW curriculum is needed for non-majors students to improve computational thinking. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, this study designed the basic education program based on the understanding of the SW with the backward design model. The SW Basic Education Program was applied to 15 weeks of instruction and conducted three surveys. The positive effects of the understanding-oriented SW basic education on the computational thinking efficacy and the computer perception were verified. In addition, it was found that the understanding-oriented computational thinking and programming education are effective when they are linked to one process. It is expected that understanding-based SW based education, which uses the backward design model, can be applied as one of the efficient ways to improve computational thinking in the education field.
