Most steel frame structures are constructed to one side without considering the arrangement of major-minor axis of column and bracing. This research presents more safety and economic efficiency can be obtained by just rearrangement of major-minor axis. Because most of steel-frame structures are excessively designed with Allowable Stress Design, and it needs to be changed to other specifications. The arrangement of major-minor axis of column is partly referred in AISC-LRFD, but still insufficient. This study compared with the each result from rearrangement of major-minor axis of column, arrangement of bracing, the connecting method of bracing, and consequence with different specifications. Moreover it demonstrated the direction of more economically optimized design.

This paper proposes a method to predict the ductility capacity of reinforced concrete beam-column joints failing in shear after the formations of plastic hinges at both ends of the adjacent beams. The current design code divides joints into two categories: Type 1 for structures in non seismically hazard area and Type 2 in seismically hazard area. While there are many researches related to joint shear strength in Type 1, those in regard to joint ductility capacity of Type 2 are scarce. This paper classified the ductility capacity of beam-column joints into column, joint panel, and beam deformability. Since a brittle failure such as shear or bond failure in the columns must be avoided, column deformability was calculated by elastic analysis. The plastic hinges of the adjacent beams affect joint deformability. Therefore, the prediction of joint deformability was calculated with consideration to the degradation of the diagonally compressed concrete due to the strain penetration.
In this study, flexural strength and ductility requirements of composite hybrid steel I-girder with its HSB(high performance steel for bridge) applied to tension flanges are examined in positive bending. In AASHTO LRFD specification, flexural strength and ductility requirements of composite I-girder in positive bending are specified in terms of plastic moment and plastic neutral axis that are derived from plastic behavior of conventional steel. However, plastic zone cannot be defined clearly from the stress-strain behavior of HSB unlike the behavior of conventional steel. Therefore, through idealized stress-strain curves of HSB, the plastic moment of composite hybrid steel I-girder with its HSB applied to tension flanges is defined by assuming the plastic zone of HSB. By using the consequences of numerical analysis regarding arbitrary cross-sections that have various dimensions, ductility requirements and flexural strength of composite hybrid I-girder with its HSB applied to tension flange are proposed.
Precast reinforced concrete bridge columns with hollow rectangular section were tested under cyclic lateral load with constant axial force to investigate its seismic performance. After all the precast column segments were erected, longitudinal reinforcement was inserted in the sheath prefabricated in the segments, which were then mortar grouted. Main variables of the test series were column aspect ratio, longitudinal reinforcement ratio, amount of lateral reinforcement, and location of segment joints. The aspect ratios were 4.5 and 2.5, and the longitudinal steel ratios were 1.15% and 3.07%. The amount of lateral reinforcement were 95%, 55%, 50%, and 27% of the minimum amount for full ductility design requirements in the Korean Bridge Design Code. The locations of segment joints in plastic hinge region were 0.5 and 1.0 times of the section depth from the bottom column end. The test results of cracking and failure mode, axial-flexural strength, lateral load-displacement relationship, and displacement ductility are presented. Then, safety of the ductility demand based seismic design in the Korean Bridge Design Code is discussed. The column specimens showed larger ductility than expected, because buckling of longitudinal reinforcing bar was prevented due to confinement developed not only by transverse steel but also by sheath and infilling mortar.

This research is a park of a research program to develope a new design method for reinforced concrete bridge columns under axial load and cyclic lateral load. The objectives of this paper are to investigate the relationship between curvature ductility and displacement ductility and to propose a correlation equation for designing of reinforced concrete bridge columns under axial load and cyclic lateral load. Computer program NARCC was used for parametric study, which was proved to provide good and conservative analytical result especially for deformation capacity and ductility factor compared with test result. A total of 7,200 spirally reinforced concrete columns were selected considering the main variables such as section diameter, aspect ratio, concrete strength, yielding strength of longitudinal and confinement steel, longitudinal steel ratio, axial load ratio, and confinement steel ratio. A new equation between curvature ductility factor displacement ductility factor with the aspect ratio was proposed by investigation of 21,600 data produced from the selected column models by applying 3 different definitions of yield displacement.

This paper provides a method to predict the ductile capacity of reinforced concrete beam-column joints that fail in shear after the plastic hinges occur at both ends of the adjacent beams. After the plastic hinges occur at both ends of the beams, the longitudinal axial strain at the center of the beam section in the plastic hinge region abruptly increases because the neutral axis continues to move upward toward the extreme compressive fiber and the residual strain of the longitudinal bars continues to increase with each cycle of inelastic loading. An increase in the axial strain of the beam section after flexural yielding widens the cracks in the beam-column joints, thus leading to an decrease of the shear strength of the beam-column joints. The proposed method takes into account shear strength deterioration in the beam-column joints. In order to verify the shear strength and the corresponding ductility of the proposed method, test results of 52 RC beam-column assembles were compared. Comparisons between the observed and calculated shear strengths and their corresponding ductilities of the tested assembles, showed reasonable agreement.

The magnetic bearing system are intrinsically unstable, and need the feedback control of electromagnetic forces with measured displacements. So the controller design plays an important role in constructing high performance magnetic bearing system. In case of magnetic bearing system, the order of identified model is high because of unknown dynamics included in closed loop systems - such as sensor dynamics, actuator dynamics - and non-linearity of magnetic bearings itself. In this paper the identification and robust control of flexible rotor supported by magnetic bearing are discussed. We measure and identify overall system that contains not only flexible rotor model but also magnetic bearing and time delay. The structured and unstructured uncertainties are modeled that cover variations of natural frequencies, uncertainties in sensor and actuator gains and unmodeled dynamics. And desired performances are specified with several weighting function. Using augmented system that includes identified model, uncertainties, and weighting functions, μ-synthesis is applied to flexible rotor supported with magnetic bearing. The flexible rotor was spin up over the first flexible critical speed.

This paper is a part of a research program to develop a new design method for reinforced concrete bridge columns under seismic loading. The objectives of this paper are to investigate the relationship between ductility and confinement steel amount and to propose a design equation for reinforced concrete bridge columns. Computer program NARCC was used for parametric study, which was proved to provide good and conservative analytical result especially for deformation capacity and ductility factor compared with test result. A total of 7,200 reinforced concrete columns confined with spirals or perfect circular hoops were selected by combination of variables such as section diameter, aspect ratio, concrete compressive strength, yielding strength of longitudinal and confinement steel, longitudinal steel ratio, axial load ratio, and confinement steel ratio. Based on the parametric study a new design equation for confinement steel amount considering ductility demand was proposed, which can be used in the new seismic design method, i.e. ductility-based seismic design, for RC bridge columns.
Materials used for education include SM20C, Al6061, and acrylic. SM20C materials are used a lot in certification tests and functional competitions as carbon steel, but they are also used in industrial sites. Al6061 is said to be a material that produces a lot of tools because it has lower hardness than carbon steel and is highly flexible. When practical guidance is given to students using acrylic materials, it is a material that causes vibration and tool damage due to excessive cutting. In this process, we examine how impact on the 5-axis equipment 2NC head can affect precision control. The weakest part of a five-axis equipment is the head that controls the AC axis. In the event of precision and cumulative tolerances in this area, the precision of all products is reduced. Thus, a key part of the 2NC head, the spindle housing was carried out using Al7075 T6 (U.S. Alcoasa) material and the entire body using FCD450 (spherical graphite cast iron). In the vibration and cutting process acting on these two materials, the analysis was carried out to determine the value of applying the force as a finite element analysis under extreme conditions. We hope that using these analytical data will help students see and understand the structure of 5-axis machining rather than 5-axis cutting.
