  • In this study, noncomposite and composite eco-arch structures with I-beams and precast concrete(PC) decks were investigated. Four finite-element models(a steel-girder model, a steel-girder-and-several-PC-panels model, a three-steel-girder model, and a three-steel-girder-and-several-PC-panels model) using a general finite-element program, ABAQUS, were reviewed to predict the strength of the noncomposite and composite arch structures. Based on the results of the finite- element analysis, the behaviors of the four models were investigated, and deflection and strain gauges for the experimental specimen consisting of three steel girders and several PC panels were set up to obtain the ultimate strength. The ultimate strength of the specimen was estimated to be 1,961kN. The ultimate strength was much larger than the 1,380-kN load calculated using AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications(2007). The noncomposite and composite arch bridges were found to have enough strength for safety.

  • In this study, the effects of cross beams on the lateral distribution of live loads in composite rolled H-beam girder bridges, were investigated through three-dimensional finite element analysis. The parameters considered in this study were the inertial moment ratio between the main girder and the cross beam, the presence of the cross beam, and the number of cross beams. The live load lateral distribution factors were investigated through finite element analysis and the customary grid method. The results show that there was no difference between the bridge models with and without a cross beam. The cross beam of the beam and frame types also showed almost the same live load lateral distribution factors. However, the finite element analysis showed that the concrete slab deck plays a major role in the lateral distribution of a live load, and consequently, the effect of the cross beam is not so insignificant that it can be neglected.

  • The flexural strength of composite HSB I-girders under a positive moment was investigated using the moment-curvature analysis method to evaluate the applicability of the current AASHTO LRFD design specifications to such girders. A total of 2,391 composite I-girder sections that satisfied the section proportion limits of the AASHTO LRFD specifications was generated by the random sampling technique to consider a wide range of section properties. The flexural capacities of the sections were calculated inthe nonlinear moment-curvature analysis in which the HSB600 and HSB800 steels were modeled as an elasto-plastic strain-hardening material, and the concrete, as a CEB-FIP model. The effects of the ductility ratio and the compressive strength of the concrete slab on the flexural strength of the composite girders made of HSB and SM520-TMC steels were analyzed. The numerical results indicated that the current AASHTO LRFD equation can be used to calculate the flexural strength of composite girders made of HSB600 steel. In contrast, the current AASHTO LRFD equation was found to be non-conservative in its prediction of the flexural strength of composite HSB800 girders. Based on the numerical results of this study for 2,391 girders, a new design equation for the flexural strength of composite HSB800 girders in a positive moment was proposed.

  • The objective of this study which it sees direct shear stress and comparative analysis of flexural shear stress leads and it is a shear stress analysis which it follows in load direction of the structure which uses Perfobond Rib shear connectors. To analyze direct shear stress, five Perfobond Rib shear connect experiments were fabricated with five variables and conducted Push-out Tests. After experiments, mechanism of Perfobond Rib shear connector was examined and direct shear formula was proposed based on primary factors which influence direct shear stress. Also, for the analysis of flexural shear steel-concrete composite slab specimens were fabricated and static flexural test. Based on the static flexural test it analyzed the flexural behavior and the flexural shear stress it calculated. Direct shear stress and EN 1994-1-1 to lead and be calculated, it compared the flexural shear stress and it analyzed in about the shear resistance stress which it follows in load direction.

  • Lateral torsional buckling causessafety accidentssuch as collapse accidents during erection. Therefore, anaccurate safety designshould be conducted. Lateral torsional buckling canbe prevented by reinforcing the end orreducing the unbraced length. The method ofreducing the unbraced length by installing a crossframe has high material and installation costs and low maintenance performance. In addition, structuralsafety may be deteriorated due to cracks. The end reinforcement method using Concrete Filled Half Pipe Stiffeneris a method ofreinforcing the end of a plate girder using a stiffenerin the form of a semi-circular column. This method increasesthewarping strength ofthe girder and increasesthe lateral torsional buckling strength. In thisstudy, the effect ofincreasing the warping strengthof plate girders with concrete filled half pipe stiffeners was confirmed. To verify the effect, the results ofthe designequationand the finite element analysis were compared and verified through a experiment. As a result, the plate girderwithCFHPS increased thewarping strengthand confirmed that the lateral torsional buckling strength was increased.
