  • Distributed Computing attempts to harness a massive computing power using a great numbers of idle PCs resource distributed linked to the internet and processes a variety of applications parallel way such as bio, climate, cryptology, and astronomy. In this paper, we develop internet-distributed computing environment, so that we can analyze High Resolution Rainfall Prediction application in meteorological field. For analyze the rainfall forecast in Korea peninsula, we used QPM(Quantitative Precipitation Model) that is a mesoscale forecasting model. It needs to a lot of time to construct model which consisted of 27KM grid spacing, also the efficiency is degraded. On the other hand, based on this model it is easy to understand the distribution of rainfall calculated in accordance with the detailed topography of the area represented by a small terrain model reflecting the effects 3km radius of detail and terrain can improve the computational efficiency. The model is broken down into detailed area greater the required parallelism and increases the number of compute nodes that efficiency is increased linearly.. This model is distributed divided in two sub-grid distributed units of work to be done in the domain of $20{\times}20$ is networked computing resources.

  • The wave-impact load on offshore structures can be divided into green-water and wave-slamming impact loads. These wave impact loads are known to have strong nonlinear characteristics. Although the wave impact loads are dealt with in the current classification rules in the shipping industry, their strong nonlinear characteristics are not considered in detail. Therefore, to investigate these characteristics, wave-impact loads induced by a breaking wave on a circular cylinder were analyzed. A model test was carried out to measure the wave-impact loads due to breaking waves in a two-dimensional (2D) wave tank. To generate a breaking wave, the focusing wave method was applied. A series of 2D tank tests under a horizontal wave impact was carried out to investigate the structural responses of the cylindrical structure, which were obtained from the measured model test data. According to the results, we proposed a structural damage-estimation procedure of an offshore tubular member due to a wave impact load. Furthermore, a recommended wave-impact load is suggested that considers the minimum required thickness of each member. From the experimental results, we found that the required minimum thickness is dependent on the impact pressure located in a three-dimensional space on the surface of a tubular member.

  • Our ultimate purpose is to investigate the potential change in regional surface climate due to the global warming and to produce higher quality regional surface climate information over the Korean peninsula for comprehensive impact assessment. Toward this purpose, we carried out two 30-year long experiments, one for present day conditions (covering the period 1971-2000) and one for near future climate conditions (covering the period 2021-2050) with a regional climate model (RegCM3) using a one-way double-nested system. In order to obtain the confidence in a future climate projection, we first verify the model basic performance of how the reference simulation is realistic in comparison with a fairly dense observation network. We then examine the possible future changes in mean climate state as well as in the frequency and intensity of extreme climate events to be derived by difference between climate condition as a baseline and future simulated climate states with increased greenhouse gas. Emphasis in this study is placed on the high-resolution spatial/temporal aspects of the climate change scenarios under different climate settings over Korea generated by complex topography and coastlines that are relevant on a regional scale.

  • Spatial and time variation of the precipitation in Korea is high, therefore, more than 2/3 of the annual precipitation is concentrated during the rainy season. Climate change also causes the intensive rainfall in the area of dense population, thus the occurrence frequency of the heavy flood in the impervious area has been increased. Therefore, the structural food mitigation measures such as the construction of the higher design frequency stormwater pipes, pumping stations, and/or detention ponds. The flood bypass tunnel or retention storage is also one of the efficient structures to mitigate flood damage in the urban area. However, the economic feasibility has been controversial because the flood bypass tunnel might be used once or twice a year. To solve the problem, the multi-functional tunnel for the urban traffic and flooding bypass has been considered. In this study, the design criteria of the road and water tunnel has been analysed and the composite design criteria is proposed for the multi-functional tunnel which is expected to be constructed.

  • Rainfall intensity was estimated using the MTSAT-1R infrared channels and the microwave satellite precipitation data. Brightness temperature of geostationary satellite is matched temporal and spatial to a variety of microwave satellite(SSM/I, SSMIS, AMSU-B, AMSRE, TRMM) precipitation data. Rainfall intensity was calculated by the look -up table using relationships of MTSAT-1R brightness temperature and microwave precipitation. Estimated rainfall is verified using by precipitation of TRMM satellite(TRMM3B42) and ground rainfall as AWS from Jul. 21 2008 to Jul. 25 2008. The results of rainfall estimated TRMM 2A12(TMI) that validated by AWS and TRMM3B42 precipitation are represented highly 0.38 and 0.61 by correlation coefficient, 5.81 mm/hr and 2.44 mm/hr by RMSE, 0.79 and 0.84 by POD and 0.65 and 0.87 by PC, respectively. Overall, estimated rainfall using by microwave satellite calculated 5 mm/hr or more comparing by AWS and 5 mm/hr or more comparing by TRMM3B42 precipitation, respectively. Validation results of correlation coefficient are shown series of TRMM 2A12, AMSRE, SSM/I, AMSU-B and SSMIS.

  • Rainfall infiltration through the unsaturated zone is influenced by a range of factors including topography, geology, soil, rainfall intensity, temperature and vegetation; the actual infiltration varies largely in time and space. The infiltration capacity of soil is a critical factor in identifying groundwater recharge and leakage of surface water. It may differ depending on soil types and geological features of a particular basin or territory as well as on the usage of the land. This study was conducted in forest and farmland region of the mid-mountain area (EL. 50~300 m) of Jeju Island to test soil infiltration capacity of the area where rainfall contributes to groundwater. Results were analyzed using the four soil group classification methods presented by Jeong et al. (1995) and NAS (2007) to discover that the method offered by NAS (2007) is more reliable in the mid-mountain area of Jeju Island. The study compares and reviews the existing classification methods using the results of infiltration capacity tests executed on different soil groups throughout the whole region of the Jeju mid-mountain area. It is expected that this work will serve as a guideline for evaluating surface water recharge and hydraulic characteristics of Jeju Island.

  • In this study, flexural tests of prestressed high strength spun concrete (PHC) piles reinforced with infilled concrete and longitudinal rebars were conducted, where the longitudinal rebar ratio and the presence of sludge formed on the inner surface of PHC pile were set as key test variables. A total of six PHC pile specimens were manufactured, and their flexural behaviors including failure mode, crack pattern, longitudinal strain distribution in a section and end slip between external PHC pile and infilled concrete were measured and discussed in detail. The test results revealed that the flexural stiffness and strength increased as the longitudinal rebar ratio became larger, and that the sludge formed on the inner surface of PHC pile did not show any detrimental effect on the flexural performance. In addition to the experimental approach, this study presents a nonlinear flexural analysis model considering compatibility conditions and strain and stress distributions of the PHC piles and infilled concrete. The rationality of the nonlinear flexural analysis model was verified by comparing it with test results, and it appeared that the proposed model well evaluated the flexural behavior of PHC piles reinforced with infilled concrete and longitudinal rebars with a good accuracy.

  • Providing weather information on roads today means that the road weather conditions near weather observation points are presented to road managers and road users. These weather observation points are managed by the Korea Meteorological Administration. However, it is difficult to provide accurate weather information due to physical limitations such as the presence of precipitation collection points, distance to weather information provision roads, and the presence of mountains. Therefore, this study intends to perform a comparative analysis by time zone and administrative dong provided by the Meteorological Administration using the wiper information among the information contained in the PVD(Probe Vehicle Data) collected from the highway C-ITS project. As a result of the analysis it was possible to detect rainfall even in the event of local rainfall and rainfall over a long period of time and the higher the cumulative precipitation per hour, the higher the probability of coincidence. This study is meaningful because it used PVD to solve the limitations of the existing road weather information provision method and suggested utilization plan for PVD.
