  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the effects of the replacement levels of grinded fly-ash on the repaired mortar based on a polymer. The main parameters are the curing temperature and replacement levels of grinded fly-ash. The curing temperature and the replacement levels of grinded fly-ash are varied at $40^{\circ}C$, $20^{\circ}C$ and $5^{\circ}C$, and between 0% and 35% of the total binder by weight, respectively. The flow in fresh mortar and compressive strengths according to ages, the relationship of stress-strain, elastic modulus and modulus rupture in hardened mortar, as well as scanning the electron microscopy and the X-ray diffraction of mortar, were measured, respectively. The test results showed that the flow, elastic modulus and modulus rupture are great in mortar specimens with 20~30% of the replacement levels of grinded fly-ash. In addition, compressive strengths according to ages were affected by the replacement levels of grinded fly-ash and the curing temperature indicated that the strength development ratio of mortar with 20% of the replacement levels of grinded fly-ash was greater than others. In the prediction of the compressive strength specified by the ACI 209 code, the strength development at an early and late age can be generalized by the functions of the replacement levels of grinded fly-ash and the curing temperature. In the analysis of scanning the electron microscopy and the X-ray diffraction, the number and intensity of peaks increased and the form of CSH gels on the surface of the particle of grinded fly-ash was observed.

  • A shear strength model for the high-shear ring anchor consisting of a steel ring and a rod was developed based on the shear tests on single high-shear ring anchors. The shear strength was found to be proportional to $f_{ck}{^{0.75}}$ which is a similar characteristic to the strength of shear connectors used in composite structures. The effects of the compressive strength of concrete, edge distance, and embedment length of rod are included in the proposed model. Comparison with 22 tests shows that the average and the coefficient of variation of test-to-prediction ratios are 1.01 and 7.57%, respectively. Push tests on the specimens having four high-shear ring anchors at each face were conducted and the measured shear strengths were compared with the predictions by the proposed model. For the specimen with an edge distance of 100 mm, a splitting failure occurred and for the specimens with an edge distance of 150 mm, a failure mode mixed with splitting and bearing occurred, which were very similar to the failures of shear tests on single high-shear ring anchors. In case of a splitting failure, the overlap of failure surfaces could be prevented by providing the longitudinal spacing of 400 mm which is four times of the edge distance. In case of a bearing failure, the failure area is less than 150 mm from the center of the anchor and therefore the overlap of failure surfaces could be prevented by providing the longitudinal spacing of 200 mm. The average of the test-to-prediction ratios of Push tests is 98%, which means that the proposed mode can be applied to predict the shear strength of the multiple high-shear rings.

  • Ultra high strength steel fiber-reinforced concrete is characterized with high tensile strength and ductility. This paper revealed the influence of fiber volume fraction on the tensile softening behaviour of ultra high strength steel fiber-reinforced concrete and developed tensile softening model to predict the deformation capacity by finite element method analysis with experimental results. The initial stiffness of ultra high strength steel fiber-reinforced concrete was constant irrespective of fiber volume fraction. The increase of fiber volume fraction improved the flexural tensile strength and caused more brittle softening behaviour. Finite element method analysis proposed by Uchida et al. was introduced to obtain the tensile softening curve from three point notched beam test results and we proposed the tensile softening model as a function of fiber volume fraction and critical crack width.

  • CFT column has excellent structural properties due to the composite action between concrete and steel tube. The bond behavior between the constituent elements has to be found for analyzing the behavior of CFT column. A new model is necessary because most of existing models for bond stress-slip relationship of the deformed bar cannot be applied to the CFT column. Therefore, the objective of this research is to develop a new model related to the bond behavior of CFT column considering the relation between bond stress and vertical stress, and the distribution of lateral stress under the confinement created by steel casing. From equilibrium condition, the formula for relationship between bond stress and vertical stress is derived, and the relationship for the lateral stresses of the CFT column section is obtained by an Airy stress function. The experiments are performed for five CFT column specimens axially loading on concrete alone. The relation between bond strength and lateral stress is investigated from the regression analysis using the measured strains. Finally a new bond strength model is proposed, which is able to predict the relationship for the stress of each direction of CFT column loading on concrete.

  • In this paper, method for the determination of removal time of the side forms in high strength concrete are discussed using the estimation model of compressive strength development, the development of bond strength and rebound number of P type Schmidt hammer in order to review the validity of existing regulation as to side form removal and offer effective quality control method. According to the results, as W/B increases by $10\%$, the setting time is shortened by about 2 hours. In the scope of the paper, required time to gain 8MPa of compressive strength is determined about 17 ${\~}$20 hours of age and $21{\~}25^{\circ}D{\cdot}D$ of maturity. Bond strength between form and concrete shows the highest value around final setting time, but decreases drastically after that. Amount of concrete sticking on the form is large before setting completed, but after that, its amount shows decline tendency. The rebound value test with P type schmidt hammer can be started faster by 2${\~}$3 hours than compressive strength test. It is also confirmed that the removal of forms is possible when the rebound value of P type schmidt hammer is more than 32. It is found from the results that existing regulation regarding removal time of the side form of high strength concrete provided in KCI needs no revision because required time to gain the strength provided in KCI has no adverse effect on strength development at early age and surface condition during stripping the side form. Effective procedure to decide the removal time of side form can be performed by applying P type Schmidt hammer.

  • In this paper, a stress-strain model for high-strength confined concrete is proposed using compressive fracture energy. In the compression test performed by author in Reference [6], an acrylic bar with strain gauges was embedded in the center of the specimen to measure the local strain distribution. It was found from the test that the local strain measurement by this acrylic rod is very effective. The local fracture zone length was defined based on the local strain distribution measured by the acrylic rod. Specifically, it was defined as the length where the local strain increases more than twice of the strain corresponding to maximum stress. In addition, the stress-strain relationship of confined concrete with compressive fracture energy is proposed on the assumption that the amount of energy absorbed by the compressive members subjected to the given lateral confining pressure is constant regardless of the aspect ratio and size. The proposed model predicts even results from other researchers accurately.

  • The effect of the maximum aggregate size and substitution rate of natural sand on the mechanical properties of concrete is evaluated using 15 lightweight aggregate concrete mixes. For mechanical properties of concrete, compressive strength increase with respect to age, tensile resistance, elastic modulus, rupture modulus, and stress-strain relationship were measured. The experimental data were compared with the design equations specified in ACI 318-08, EC2, and/or CEB-FIP code provisions and empirical equations proposed by Slate et al., Yang et al., and Wang et al. The test results showed that compressive strength of lightweight concrete decreased with increase in maximum aggregate size and amount of lightweight fine aggregates. The parameters to predict the compressive strength development could be empirically formulated as a function of specific gravity of coarse aggregates and substitution rate of natural sand. The measured rupture modulus and tensile strength of concrete were commonly less than the prediction values obtained from code provisions or empirical equations, which can be attributed to the tensile resistance of lightweight aggregate concrete being significantly affected by its density as well as compressive strength.

  • Epoxy asphalt concrete is used to reduce dead load and to increase durability on long-span steel bridge overlay. The strength development properties of epoxy asphalt concrete are affected by time and temperature because epoxy asphalt is two-phase reactive materials. The strength development of epoxy asphalt concrete should be predicted precisely to decide traffic opening time. Based on this background in mind, the prediction model for traffic opening time for epoxy asphalt pavement was proposed in this research. The developed model using nonlinear curve fitting revealed R2 value of 0.943 while the R2 value of the existing model using chemical kinetics was 0.806. An improved precise prediction result is to be obtained when the prediction model uses accurate temperature data of pavement.

  • To predict autogenous shrinkage of concrete, unsaturated pore compensation factor could be calculated by experiments of autogenous shrinkage of cement paste on the assumption that the differences between degree of hydration and strain rate of autogenous shrinkage are unsaturated pore formation rate. Applying unsaturated pore compensation factor on modified Pickket model considering contribution factor and non-contribution factor to autogenous shrinkage of concrete, experimental data and existing model were compared. From the results modified Pickket model was verified to present similar tendency between Tazawa model and experimental data, but CEB-FIP model might be corrected because this model uses ultimate autogenous shrinkage underestimated and the same autogenous time function of concrete material properties considering only compressive strength.

  • In this paper, tests are carried out in order to investigate the strength development of concrete under various binder types, W/B and curing temperature ranged from $5{\sim}20^{\circ}C$. Fly ash and blast furnace slag were incorporated by as much as 30%, respectively. Strength development of concrete are estimated using Logistic model and strength ratio of concrete at 28days to that at early age are also investigated. According to experimental results, it is found that good agreements are obtained between measured values and calculated ones using logistic model below $20^{\circ}C$. Strength ratio of concrete at 28days to that at early age increases in case W/B decreases and curing temperature increases. Tables and graphs for strength ratio of concrete are provided in this paper. It is capable of obtaining and predicting the periods to attain design strength by considering increment factor of strength easily with the table and graphs presented in this paper. This paper presents the reference data to decide removal time of form, time to reach target strength and strength inspection of remicon whether the test specimens meet the specified criteria of compressive strength. Multi regression models with respect to the relationship between 7days compressive strength and 28 days compressive strength depending on W/B and admixture types are presented.
