In general, ultrasonic guided wave techniques that used for an evaluation of the internal defect have been applied without considering energy loss. It can be found out that the significant attenuation is observed in the signal of structure with defect by the scattering and absorption. Even in the signal acquired from defect-free structure, this attenuation can be also significant. Therefore, it is very essential to determine the Lamb wave propagation characteristics depending on modes because the dispersibility of Lamb wave can be easily influenced by the attenuation effect with frequency and thickness. For this reason, changing the propagation distance, attenuation coefficient of each Lamb wave mode needs to be investigated by the contact pitch-catch method with PZT(piezoelectric) sensors. In this paper, the experimental attenuation coefficient is measured by choosing the following three different variables; mode, thickness and plate materials. As a result, experimental attenuation coefficient is obtained as the function of variables.

In this paper the progressive collapse resisting capacity of steel moment frames with viscous dampers was evaluated by nonlinear dynamic analysis. The effects of dampers installed in steel beam-column sub-assemblages with varying natural period and yield strength were evaluated after sudden removal of a column. According to the parametric study the vertical displacement general decreased as the damping ratio of the system increased, and the dampers were effective both in elastic and elasto-plastic systems. The nonlinear dynamic analysis results of the 15-story analysis models showed that the decrease in vertical deflection of the structure with 9m span length, which showed larger deflection, was more predominant than that of the structure with 6m span length.
As a transition region between ocean and land, coastal wetlands are significant ecosystems that maintain water quality, provide natural habitat for a variety of species, and slow down erosion. The energy of coastal waves and storm surges are reduced by vegetation cover, which also helps to maintain wetlands through increased sediment deposition. Wave attenuation by vegetation is a highly dynamic process and its quantification is important for understanding shore protection and modeling coastal hydrodynamics. In this study, laboratory experiments were used to quantify wave attenuation as a function of vegetation type as well as wave conditions. Wave attenuation characteristics were investigated under regular waves for rigid model vegetation. Laboratory hydraulic test and numerical analysis were conducted to investigate regular wave attenuation through emergent vegetation with wave steepness ak and relative water depth kh. The normalized wave attenuation was analyzed to the decay equation of Dalrymple et al.(1984) to determine the vegetation transmission coefficients, damping factor and drag coefficients. It was found that drag coefficient was better correlated to Keulegan-Carpenter number than Reynolds number and that the damping increased as wave steepness increased.

In this study, coda Q has been determined by the single scattering model in the Kyeongsang Basin region using the decay of the amplitudes of coda waves on bandpass-filtered seismograms of local microearthquakes in the frequency range 1.5~18 Hz. Reported frequency dependence of Q is of the form $Q_C=Q_O^n$$(83.9{ll}Q_0{ll}155.9,;0.76{ll}n{ll}1.05$. Considering a model incorporating both scattering and intrinsic attenuation, and assuming that the attenuation is entirely due to the scattering loss, the minimum mean free paths are about 51~56 km and the coefficients of inelastic attenuation(${\gamma}$) are between 0.0093 and 0.0098 were found. Earthquake-station paths pass through the fault zone show high attenuation and strong frequency dependency compared to other ones.

Accurate identification of damping matrix in structures is very important for predicting vibration responses and estimating parameters or other characteristics affected by energy dissipation. In this paper, damping matrix identification method that use normal frequency response functions, which were estimated from complex frequency response functions, is proposed. The complex frequency response functions were obtained from the experimental data of the structure. The nonproportional damping matrix was identified through the proposed method. Two numerical examples (lumped-mass model and cantilever beam model) were considered to verify the performance of the proposed method. As a result, the damping matrix of the nonproportional system was accurately identified.

Effects of an orifice on suppression of pressure oscillation in a fluid feeding line are investigated numerically through the installation of an orifice inside the feeding line. Based on linear acoustic theory, acoustic-damping effect of an orifice is emphasized in this study. When an orifice is installed at the node of pressure oscillation corresponding to the anti-node of velocity oscillation, damping capacity is maximized. On the other hand, the orifice installed at the anti-node of pressure oscillation has little damping capacity. As the blockage ratio and thickness of an orifice increase in the feeding line, damping factor increases. The feeding line with smaller diameter has more damping capacity, but damping factor increases more appreciably with blockage ratio in the feeding line with larger diameter.
In this paper, the damping ratios of two methods, namely the half-power bandwidth method and random decrement method from the vibration measurement were examined. Ambient vibration tests were conducted on two steel-framed and one composite tall building ranging from 27 to 36 stories. The performance of the half-power bandwidth method was investigated using four sample sizes, such as 1024, 2048, 4096 and 8192. Damping by the half-power bandwidth method is slightly more overestimated than the random decrement method due to insufficient record length. Damping evaluation by the half-power bandwidth method was found to be enhanced when using the narrower bandwidth with long recorded data.

Recently, there are highly interests on structural damping to improve resistance of seismic and wind. It has been frequently used hysteresis damping devices made of steel because of economic efficiency, construction, and maintenance. This paper presents the effective reduction of seismic response by using Kagome damping system(SKDS) in rahmen system apartment building. The proposed system is designed to be activated by the relative displacement between the building and the stairs. It is performed nonlinear dynamic analysis to review the effects of earthquake response reduction for the 20-stories rahmen framed apartment building. In the analysis of the SKDS system, the reduction of maximum response displacement, maximum response acceleration and layer shear force are compared with the seismic design, and the result show that allowable story displacement is satisfied with Korean Building Code (KBC 2016).
Passive noise reduction is a classical approach to attenuate industrial noise, and an active noise cancellation has several advantages over the passive noise cancellation. The active noise reduction system offers a better low frequency performance with a smaller and lighter system. This paper presents a simple active closed loop control system which consists of an controller for inverting and compensating the phase delay, a microphone for picking up the external noise, and a loudspeaker for radiating the acoustic out of phase signal to reduce the external noise, and external noise can be reduced after compensating the phase difference to be $180^{\circ}$ in the frequency of maximum value in the amplitude response. The noise of the phase delay covered from $50^{\circ}\;to\;310^{\circ}$ tends to be reduced in the active noise control system and it is possible to obtain a noise cancelling of up to approximately 20[dB] at the ears in the enclosurer.

To realize the tap coefficient of a finite impulse response(FIR) filter or the twiddle factor of a fast Fourier transform(FFT) using a current-mode analog circuit, a high accurate current-attenuator circuit is needed This paper introduces an accuracy enhancement technique in the current-mode signal processing. First of all, the DC of set-current error in a conventional current-attenuator using a gate-ratioed orient mirror circuit is analyzed and then, the current-attenuator circuit with a negligibly small DC offset-current error is introduced. The circuit consists of N-output current mirrors connected in parallel with me another. The output current of the circuit is attenuated to 1/N of the input current. On the basis of the Kirchhoff current law, the current scale ratio is determined simply by the number of the current mirrors in the N-current mirrors connected in parallel. In the proposed current-attenuator circuit the scale accuracy is limited by the ac gain error of the current mirror. Considering that a current mirror has a negligibly small ac gain error, the attainable maximum scale accuracy is theoretically -80[dB] to the input current.
