A Study on the Perception and Attitude towards Food Waste Reduction by the Elementary School Pupils (부산지역 초등학생들의 음식물쓰레기 감량에 대한 인식 및 태도 연구)

  • Food waste in school foodservices is an important factor in managing expense or evaluating the acceptance of served meals and a serious environmental hazard factor in all countries. In this study, the perception and attitude towards food waste reduction and the recognition of environmental pollution of students from elementary school foodservices in Busan, Korea were investigated. The questionnaire was responded by 519 students (boy: 255, girl: 264) in the third and sixth grades. School lunch programs were proved to contribute to the improvement of students' food intake habits. The perception and attitude towards food waste reduction of the third grade students (3.61/3.73) were significantly higher than those of the sixth grade students (3.46/3.59) (P<0.01). Food waste education made a significant impact on the perception and attitude on food waste (p<0.01). When dislike food was supplied the students having the higher perception and attitude towards food waste reduction ate it more than those having the lower perception and attitude. The major reason for plate waste was shown to be influenced by the taste and amount of foods supplied in school lunch programs. Most of students recognized that food waste pollution (4.22) was one of the severest problems among the environmental pollutions, followed by air (4.13), tap water (4.09) soil (3.78), noise (3.55) pollution. The students separated the garbage in the house (72.6%) better than in school and the outside (55.2%). The perception of food waste was positively correlated with the attitude toward reduction of food waste and the recognition of environmental pollution (p<0.01). The attitude toward reduction of food waste was also positively correlated with meal quantity taken (p<0.01).

Development of Nutritional Counseling Internet Program for Weight Reduction Using Expert System (전문가 시스템을 이용한 인터넷 체중 감량 상담 프로그램 개발)

  • The purpose of the study was to develop a nutritional counseling program using expert system to assist obese people to lose weight through behavior modification in the internet. The counseling internet program for weight loss was developed by the accumulation of knowledge for dealing with eating habits and exercising behaviors into expert system tool, Knowledge Engineering Agent (KEA) by a dietitian without any help of computer expert. KEA was built based on the theory of Multiple Classification Ripple Down Rules. To accumulate knowledge into KEA, survey was performed in 150 obese people, the dietitian reviewed and consulted each survey case, and the consulted contents were learned and accumulated into KEA. Survey questionnaires were the same as those of the internet consulting program, and they included general characteristics, dietary habits, lifestyle, and exercise patterns related to obesity. KEA was used for nutritional counseling of obese people after KEA had enough knowledge for weight loss based on behavior modification by the dietitian. To accumulate knowledge to KEA, the dietitian selected proper factors inferred from the survey questionnaire of each case, and added the conclusions for them. Conclusions were made for helping clients to correct bad eating behaviors and accumulate good behaviors for losing weight. When clients answered survey questionnaires in a counseling internet program, KEA gave the recommendation how to eat, to exercise and the deal with stress in a real time for each case. If KEA did not have enough knowledge for a specific case, the conclusion window wrote no conclusion and the dietitian needed to add conclusions for the case. The conclusions for the new case added to the KEA knowledge base. In conclusions, a counseling internet program for weight reduction can be used for give advices how to deal with obesity in a man-to-man way in a real time using KEA where nutritional knowledge based on behavior modification for weight loss was accumulated.

Process development for food waste composting (음식물 쓰레기 퇴비화 공정 개발)

  • This study was performed to evaluate the quality of produced compost and to analyse the change of a component during the reduction compost according to the input volume. The volume of pilot scale used in this study was about 300㎥. The pile of 2m width, 20m length and 1.2m height was constructed. Woodchip was used as bulking agent to enhance pore volume of composting bay and to control water content of food waste in starting time. Food waste was turned using a mechanical tumer twice a day. The result are as follows : In these cases of input volume of $2m^3$ and $3.5m^3$, temperature of composting pile was maintained over $60^{\circ}C$ and water content was 43.6% and 47.2%, respectively. It was proved that microorganisms activity was maintained high in each input volume. After operation of step 1 and step 2, pH and organic matter in the final compost were 6.2, 6.6 and 84.3%, 79.6%, respectively. Cation concentration such as $K_2O,$ CaO and NaCl was accumulated in the compost during the composting period. NaCl concentration in the final compost was 4.62%, 4.92%, respectively. Hence, If was recommended that this compost should be applied to others expect agricultural area or mixed with a low concentration other compost. In the steps 1, input volume of $2m^3$, heavy metal concentration of Pb, Cu, Cr, Ni. Cd were 37.82㎎/㎏, 56.87㎎/㎏, 9.8㎎/㎏. 22.21㎎/㎏ and 3.69㎎/㎏, and 44.55㎎/㎏, 95.54㎎/㎏, 12.22㎎/㎏, 24.94㎎/㎏, and 3.86㎎/㎏ in the step 2.

  • 과거 50 년 동안 국내 보 설치 수는 매년 증가하여 왔으나, 그 증가비율은 근래 들어 감소하는 추세로, 이는 보 보다는 용수공급능력이 큰 양수장, 저수지 등 타 시설물에 의존하는 것으로 판단 할 수 있다. 더욱이 인구의 도시 집중화에 따른 농경지의 도시화, 경작 방식의 변화에 의한 비닐하우스 단지로의 변화, 시설의 노후화 등으로 매년 $50{\sim}150$개 정도의 보가 폐기되고 있다. 그러나 이렇게 폐기되는 보는 하천에 그대로 존치되어 하천생태통로의 단절, 수질악화, 수변 서식처 악화 등의 문제를 지속적으로 야기 시키고 있다. 실험은 문산천 검전보, 안양천 안양대교보, 기철거된 경안천 무명보에서 자연시료를 채취하여 실행 하였다. 문산천 검전보는 하천환경이 안정되고 양호한 대조구간으로 선정하였다. 안양 대교보는 도심화로 인하여 원기능을 상실하였으며 수차례에 걸친 개수가 이루어졌고 수년전까지만 해도 러브보로 인한 수질정화장치가 있었으나 효능이 약화되어 철거할 계획을 가지고 있는 것으로 알려져 있다. 경안천 무명보는 현재는 완전 철거된 상태이다. 경안천 무명보는 기 철거된 보의 대조구간으 로 선정하였다. 보 상류의 수질 오염도가 높은 것은 정체구역에 의한 용존산소 부족과 오염저니에 의한 것으로 판단되므로, 각각의 대상보의 퇴적물 오염도를 조사하였다. 각각의 조사 지점은 검전보의 경우, 만장교를 최상류 지점으로, 검전보 상/하류, 광탄교를 최하류 지점으로 선정하여, 총 4 지점에서 채취했으며, 안양대교보의 경우 최상류지점, 보 상/하류 지점으로 총 3지점, 무명보의 경우 보 상/하류로 총 2 지점에서 채취했으며, 실험은 $\ulcorner$Soil Method$\lrcorner$에 준하여, 각각 입도분포, 함수율, 강열감량, COD, T-N, T-P 등을 시행하였다. 문산천 검전보 퇴적물 오염도 조사 결과, 강열감량, COD, T-N, T-P 항목에서 보 상류가 보 하류에 비해 높게 나타났으며, 각각 하류에 비해 상류가 30.76%, 16.69%, 73.13%, 18.91% 더 높게 나타났다. 안양대교보 퇴적물 조사 결과, 검전보와 마찬가지로, 강열감량, COD, T-N, T-P 항목에서 보 상류가 보 하류에 비해 33.33%, 9.23%, 24.78%, 18.56% 높게 나타났다. 기 철거된 무명보의 경우, 무명보 상류, 무명보 하류 2개 지점을 채취하였으며, 강열감량, COD, T-N 항목에서 보 상류가 보 하류에 비해 18.75%, 412.6%, 25.75% 높게 나타났다. 퇴적물 조사 결과, 강열감량, COD, T-N 항목에서 검전보, 안양대교보, 무명보 모두 보 상류의 오염도가 높게 나타났으며, 무명보를 제외한 검전보, 안양대교보는 T-P 항목에서도 보 상류의 오염도가 높게 나타나, 보 상류의 퇴적물 오염농도가 심화된 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 기철거된 무명보의 경우, 강열감량, COD, T-N, 항목에서 보 상류가 높게 나타났으나, 철거되지 않은 검전보나 안양대교보에 비해 그 차이가 크지 않은 것으로 나타났다.

Factors influencing Intake of Weight Loss Products of Female College Students (여대생의 체중감량 제품 복용 영향 요인)

  • Appearance has become an important means of expressing oneself in modern society, and women often desire to lose weight. Therefore, this study examined the diets of female college students with high weight loss needs and analyzed the effects of their body image, sociocultural attitude, body stress and diet behavior on intake weight loss products. Data were collected from 220 Korean female college students from June to July using an online survey program. The questionnaires included body image scale, Sociocultural Attitude Towards Appearance Questionnaire (SATAQ), Body Attitudes Questionnaire (BAQ) and diet behaviors scale. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, the $x^2$-test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and logistic regression analysis using the SPSS 22.0 program. There were significant differences in body image, SATAQ, obesity stress and diet behavior between groups. All variables were significantly correlated with each other. Factors influencing weight loss products intake by female university students were SATAQ (OR=1.15, CI=1.03-1.29), obesity stress (OR=1.13, CI=1.06-1.20), diet behaviors (OR=1.21, CI=1.10-1.33), and knowledge regarding the side effects of weight loss products (OR=3.86, CI=1.62-9.20). Thus, it is necessary to teach female college students to recognize healthy weight control methods. Moreover, if weight loss products are needed, appropriate information should be provided regarding the ingredients and side effects of the product.

Sludge Minimization by Using Dewater and Thermal Treatment in the Water Treatment Plant (탈수(脫水) 및 건조기법(乾燥技法)을 이용한 정수장(淨水場) 슬러지 감량화(減量化))

  • Sludge minimization in an water treatment plant can be achieved by optimizing a main water treatment process as well as by enhancing a thickening and a dewatering facilities. In this study, dewatering and drying techniques for reducing the quantity of the water sludge generated from the conventional water treatment plant in the local states were investigated by reducing its water content. Not only the types and dosages of polymers but also the mixing intensity of the mixtures of a concentrated sludge and polymers on the different pH were evaluated for the optimum dewatering conditions of the water sludge. Weight reduction of the water sludge was also tested at a given temperature range. The dewatering efficiency of the water sludge was not affected by the types of polymer but by mixing intensity(GT value) in this study. pH effect on dewaterbility of the water sludge took a major role at the neutral pH range. The optimal polymer dose was 1.5 mg-polymer/g-TSS(about 40mg/L as polymer). Dewaterability was enhanced at a lower mixing intensity(GTbelow 10,000 sec-1). Free water in the void of sludge cake was dried around $100^{\circ}C$, chemical bound water was evaporated around $320^{\circ}C$, and organic material was burned out at the range of 300 to $600^{\circ}C$. Ignition losses of the water sludge were varied 15 to 40 % as the raw water quality. The ignition loss due to the chemical bound water was 10-20% and the loss due to the organic material was 4-20% of the total ignition loss.

Effect of the Application of Microbubbles and/or Catalyst on the Sludge Reduction and Organic matter of Livestock Wastewater (마이크로버블과 촉매 적용에 따른 가축분뇨의 슬러지와 유기오염물질 감량 효과)

  • This study was tested to evaluate the effect of the six different combinations of microbubble, catalyst, and air as oxidant on the sludge and organic matter reduction. When all of microbubbles and catalyst, and an oxidizing agent (under Conditions 1) such as air were used, the sludge was removed more than 99%, and TCOD and SCOD removal was 58% and 13%, respectively. This result was the highest value of six conditions. In the following order, the sludge reduction of the microbubbles with air (Condition 2) and catalyst with air (condition 4) was 95% and 93.1%, respectively. TCOD removal was found to be each 53% and 47%. When the microbubbles were used with oxidant like air, the removal of sludge and organic matter was high. All of these values were higher than that of using only microbubbles and catalyst without air. In the microbubbles and catalyst react under air supply condition, OH-radicals were generated in the reaction process. These OH-radicals in the reaction process decomposed the pollutants by the strong oxidizing power. In all conditions with air, the sludge reduction was high removal rate more than 93% and TCOD removal was over 47%.

  • 최근 ESCO성과보증방식의 정책적인 확산에 따라 에너지절감량 측정 및 검증(M&V)에 대한 중요성이 부각되고 있다. 에너지절감량을 구체적으로 산출하고 측정, 검증하는 과정인 M&V는 정확한 ESCO사업을 수행하기 위한 필수적인 과정이다. 협회는 2012년 2월 20일부터 25일까지 5박 6일간 대만 ESCO협회(TESA)와의 업무협력을 통해 대만의 M&V 전문교육기관에서 21명의 참석자와 함께 '2012 해외 ESCO M&V 교육' 과정을 마치고 돌아왔다. 현장 사진과 (주)에코시안 엄기현 팀장과 김용희 대리의 참관기를 통해 뜨거웠던 교육 현장을 소개한다.
