  • This study investigated the ethical attitudes towards Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) among nursing college students. Data were collected from September to November 2022, involving 209 students in Jeonbuk Province. Analysis was done using SPSS WIN 25.0 with descriptive statistics and the χ2-test. Students generally agreed with respecting patient wishes, providing accurate information, and adhering to DNR guidelines. They supported treatment upon guardian request and maintaining aseptic principles for DNR patients. They showed neutral attitudes towards discontinuing mechanical ventilation upon family request, using all means to prolong life for patients with no chance of survival, the primary physician's DNR decision, etc. There was often opposition to the decline in medical team interest after DNR declaration. Significant differences based on DNR education experience were found regarding the use of all treatments for terminally ill patients (p=.028) and the need to advise if a co-worker treats a DNR patient without aseptic procedures (p=.014). Education on DNR situations and procedures is essential for accurate knowledge and high ethical competence.

  • This study was conducted to explore the latest trends in domestic research related to career development for nurses and present a theoretical approach and practical direction of career related papers in the field of nursing and health care. The subject of the study was articles regarding career development of nurses published in domestic journals from 2008 to 2017. The final 29 papers were found after searching the RISS and KISS databases for 'nursing', 'nurse', 'career', 'career development', 'career development program', and 'career management.' To analyze the overall trends, the analysis was reviewed by year, source, research design, and subjects, and content analysis was used to identify trends by topic. The results of content analysis were divided into career development and career development results as the upper categories. The subcategories of career development were divided into organizational career management, personal career management, and career performance. The subcategories of personal career management consisted of career exploration, career planning, career plateau, and career interruption. Organizational career management consisted of CLS development and application, CLS awareness survey, and career development model building. Career performance consisted of career commitment, organizational commitment, turnover intention, change after CLS application, career satisfaction, and career withdrawal intention. The most frequently discussed topics were career commitment among career performance. Therefore, the direction of nursing research related to career development requires integrated research that meets personal and organizational needs, and diversity in subject, research design and research theme is required.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the trend of nursing research by analyzing the doctoral dissertations in one college of nursing in Korea. Method: The areas of research, the methodological characteristics, and theories used in the research were explored in all doctoral dissertations (n=120) published from 1989 to 2006. Result: Mainly "Nursing" has been studied (44.9%) among four meta-paradigms of nursing science. The "client" domain (46.7%) and the "practice" domain (41.7%) were most frequently studied in type of nursing knowledge. The main purpose of the thesis was to develop nursing interventions and examine the effectiveness of the practice (40.8%) in quantitative research. Almost all (94.7%) of the qualitative dissertation studies were to explore phenomena in the nursing field. Almost half of the dissertations (43.9%) were an experimental design, 34.7% were a model construction, and 15.8% were a qualitative design. The majority of dissertations (83.3%) were to apply the specific theory and almost half (43.8%) studied borrowed theories from other fields. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop more rigorous and various research designs such a longitudinal design, or randomized controlled trial and this will lead to expanding the body of nursing knowledge.
