Mathematics and Disciplinary Convergence (수학과 학문융합)

  • This paper aims to show the role of mathematics in the age of disciplinary convergence. Classifying disciplinary convergence into three levels by its degree, I claim that mathematics can contribute to disciplinary convergence in three aspects: theoretical, linguistical, and spiritual. Then I assert that there is a corresponding relationship between three levels of convergence and three contributing aspects.

Two Ways of Doing Cross-disciplinary Philosophy of Science Research: Inter-disciplinary STS and Multi-disciplineary STS (학제간 과학철학 연구의 두 방향: 간학문 STS와 다학문 STS)

  • It has been a point of dispute how to define the disciplinary identity of STS; science and technology studies or science, technology and society? Still, STS is now emerging as an autonomous research discipline with its own agendas and styles of reasoning from a mere collections of various meta disciplines such as philosophy of science, history of science and sociology of science. The paper discusses how philosophy of science in its cross-disciplineary mode can contribute to STS (understood as science and technology studies) research given these recent academic trends. We can start from the observation that there are two distinctive ways of doing cross-disciplinary research: inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary. Then it is shown with concrete examples how philosophy of science can productively participate in both ways of cross-disciplinary researches in STS.

  • 본 논문에서는 관광분야의 새로운 화두가 되고 있는 스마트관광을 위한 학문간 융 복합에 대한 개념적 연구를 진행하고자 하였다. 연구결과 스마트관광을 위한 학문간 융 복합을 위한 필요조건으로 관광분야, 디자인 분야, IT 분야, 인문학 분야 등에서 관광 콘텐츠를 위한 융 복합이 우선적으로 이루어져야 한다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 연구는 향후 관광산업의 신활력 요인으로 작용할 수 있을 것이며, 미래 관광산업이 직면하게 될 스마트환경에서의 관광사업 시스템 구축에 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이다.

  • 본 논문은 지리교육의 통합을 위한 논리적 토대와 준거틀을 구축하고, 이를 토대로 통합의 구성원리 제시를 목적으로 하고 있다. 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 1) 새로운 지리교육이 삶과 삶의 터전을 위한 것이라면, 지리교육은 삶의 통합적인 모습을 해석하고, 이해하는 쪽으로 가야 한다. 2) 지리교육과정의 통합은 지역을 중심으로, 그 속의 지리적 현상을 주제로 간학문적.초학문적 통합의 장점이 조화된 통합 방식이 가장 적절하다. 3) 지역 중심의 주제를 통한 통합지리교육의 주목적은 학습자들이 자신들의 삶의 터전 속에 내재된 지리적 의미를 찾아 해석하고 이해하는 것이며, 부차적으로 이 과정에서 관련된 지리적 지식을 능동적으로 구성하는 것이다. 4) 통합지리교육은 지역화 지리교과서 편찬으로부터 출발해야 한다.

  • In these days, science is too complex and comprehensive scientific practices to be reduced to scientific knowledge. Also it's actors go beyond the limit of scientist society to the broad range of supporting system scientific journalism, education, and business. Science is very important cultural practice of our times. This Study focus on the effect of interdisciplinary approach in understanding modern science culture. First, this paper suggest the approach of public understanding of science(PUS) as a framework PUS has provided new perspectives for the relation of scientific knowledge and understanding. Traditional approach(so-called 'deficit model') regarded understanding as mere transportation of scientific knowledge. So it may be called 'knowledge-oriented approach' to understanding. But PUS consider understanding process of 'dynamic reconstructing' which is occurred in complex socio-cultural context. Second, this article analysis the Korea University STS course(2002-2003) 'Science Technology & Society' as the case study. The case study examine how interdisciplinary approach help students to understand 'sciene in the making'.

  • For a field of research to be an independent area of study, there must be a common paradigm that is shared by the members of the community. In addition. for establishment of identity in a study, several relating scientific communities should actively study and research, which lead to a new paradigm. Efforts to accomplish this purpose are found in Politics, Economics, and Psychology. Yet, the field of Fire Service Science have not yield these results which include active scientific communities, scholars and experts who research on the subject and exchange their expertises. New paradigm for the field is not established yet. Therefore, this research probes the origins of these problems and suggests a proper scientific paradigm and direction for establishment of identity of Fire Service Science in Korea's ambiance.

A Critical Consideration of the Relationships between 'Academic Discipline', 'Subject', 'Subject Content', and 'Subject Matter Education': Focus on Science Education (학문, 교과, 교과내용, 교과교육 간 관계에 대한 비판적 고찰 -과학교육을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study is to critically examine the relationship between 'academic disciplines', 'subject', 'subject content', and 'subject matter education' as an attempt to explore the meaning and identity of subject matter education. In this study, first, we looked at the origin of the 'separative' perspective, focusing on science education, and the effects of this perspective on the relationship between 'academic discipline', 'subject', 'subject content', and 'subject matter education'. In addition, the relationship between them was examined from 'essential-holistic' perspective. As a result of the study, it was found that the 'separative' perspective has limitations in grasping the organic and overall relationship between 'academic discipline', 'subject', 'subject content', and 'subject matter education'. Therefore, we need to overcome the existing 'separative' perspective in order to go beyond the current horizon. On the other hand, the 'essential-holistic' perspective shows a close relationship that is not essentially separated between 'academic discipline', 'subject', 'subject content', and 'subject matter education'. It is expected as a perspective that can help solve the teacher education problem caused by the 'separative' perspective.

The Present and Future of Criminology (범죄학의 현재와 미래)

  • Criminology is not a science yet in the sense that the word is used to describe the hard science. It is due to the fact that sociologists have dominated in the study of crime and criminals. Thus, future criminological studies should adopt an interdisciplinary approach including such disciplines as biology, psychology, sociology, and so on. The interdisciplinary approach needs to pursue a general theory by systematizing the achievements from various disciplines in the explanation of criminal behavior. The current study also discussed several issues which are conducive to the scientific study of criminal behavior.

Analysis of Multiple Intelligences and Academic Adjustment Level for Undergraduate Students of IT Major -Focused on C Programming- (IT 학부생의 다중지능과 학문적 적응도 분석 -C 프로그래밍을 중심으로-)

  • This study analyzed the characteristics of multiple intelligence and the levels of academic adjustment for the department and the major among undergraduate students majoring in IT. Seventy freshmen majoring in IT at the department of M, H University participated in this study and the basic major subject required for the department was Computer Language: I-C Language. Eight intelligence areas less controversial in Gardner's multiple intelligence theory were used; academic adjustment was manipulatively defined as the degree of adjustment for the department and the major among undergraduate students; and pleasure, flow, familiarity and relevance to the major, academic achievement, and major satisfaction were selected as variables through literature review. The undergraduate students majoring in IT showed high levels of interpersonal intelligence and intrapersonal intelligence, with insignificant gender differences. Significant correlations were found between multiple intelligence and academic adjustment. In particular, while pleasure and flow in C programming were found to be at low levels in academic adjustment, the significant correlation between linguistic intelligence in multiple intelligence and flow in C language was a very interesting finding. While significant correlation was not found between multiple intelligence and academic achievement, students who were more highly aware of the relevance to the major and who were more familiar with C language showed higher academic achievement. Lastly, limitations of this study were discussed; on the basis of the results, suggestions were made about prescriptive strategies to improve academic achievement for undergraduate students majoring in IT.

Analyzing the Network of Academic Disciplines with Journal Contributions of Korean Researchers (연구자의 투고 학술지 현황에 근거한 국내 학문분야 네트워크 분석)

  • The main purposes of this study are to construct a Korean science network from journal contributions data of Korean researchers, and to analyze the structure and characteristics of the network. First of all, the association matrix of 140 scholarly domains are calculated based on the number of contributions in common journals, and then the Pathfinder network algorithm is applied to those matrix. The resulting network has several hubs such as 'Biology', 'Korean Language & Linguistics', 'Physics', etc. The entropy formula and several centrality measures for the weighted networks are adopted to identify the centralities and interdisciplinarity of each scholarly domain. In particular, the date hubs, which have several weak links, are successively distinguished by local and global triangle betweenness centrality measures.
