  • In this paper, we propose a private digital watermarking method based on a wavelet transform to protect digital contents copyrights. We find out the optimal watermark insertion region and the optimal amount of watermark in order to satisfy robustness and imperceptibility against various attacks such as noise, compression, collusion, clipping, scaling to transfer the contents safely. Through this experiment, we could find out the adequate location of watermark insertion and proper amount of watermark, and transfer the watermarked image safely.

  • The popular methods to check the identity of individuals include passwords and ID cards. These conventional method for user identification and authentication are not altogether reliable because they can be stolen and forgotten. As an alternative of the existing methods, biometric technology has been paid much attention for the last few decades. In this paper, we propose an efficient system for recognizing the identity of a living person by analyzing iris patterns which have a high level of stability and distinctiveness than other biometric measurements. The proposed system is based on wavelet transform and a competitive neural network with the improved mechanisms. After preprocessing the iris data acquired through a CCD camera, feature vectors are extracted by using Haar wavelet transform. LVQ(Learning Vector Quantization) is exploited to classify these feature vectors. We improve the overall performance of the proposed system by optimizing the size of feature vectors and by introducing an efficient initialization of the weight vectors and a new method for determining the winner in order to increase the recognition accuracy of LVQ. From the experiments, we confirmed that the proposed system has a great potential of being applied to real applications in an efficient and effective way.

  • To improve the performance of inner loop based on PD controller for a unmanned helicopter, neural networks are applied. The performance of PD controller designed on the response characteristics of error dynamics decreases because of uncertain nonlinearities of the system. The nonlinearities are decoupled to modified dynamic inversion model(MDIM) and are compensated by the neural networks. For the training of the neural networks, online weight adaptation laws which are derived from Lyapunov's direct method are used to guarantee the stability of the controller. The results of the improved performance of PD controller by neural networks are illustrated in the simulation of unmanned helicopter with nonlinearities,

  • WT(Wavelet Transform) is used to avoid blocking effect that is the disadvantage of JPEG using DCT(Discrete Cosine Transform). Because the proposed coding scheme is the same as JPEG, the proposed algorithm is compatible with that of JPEG. To achieve the goal, WT'ed image is reconstructed into 8$\times$8 coding block. Each coding block is quantized with the proposed weighting matrix that is derived from human visual characteristic and error analysis in WT'ed domain. By experiments, the proposed algorithm is superior to JPEG, in terms of PSNR(Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) and WMSE(Weighted Mean Square Error).

  • Subspace classifier is a popular pattern recognition method based on Karhunen-Loeve transform. This classifier describes a high dimensional pattern by using a reduced dimensional subspace. Because of the loss of information induced by dimensionality reduction, however, a subspace classifier sometimes shows unsatisfactory recognition performance to the patterns having quite similar principal components each other. In this paper, we propose the use of multiple novelty neural network classifiers constructed on novelty vectors to adopt minor components usually ignored and present a method of improving recognition performance through combining those with the subspace classifier. We develop the proposed classifier on handwritten numeral database and analyze its properties. Our proposed classifier shows better recognition performance compared with other classifiers, though it requires more weight links.

  • We introduce three types of exponential survival models, such as simple model, change-point model and finite mixture model in this paper. Among these models, in order to choose the best model, the model choice method is proposed using Gelfand and Ghosh(1998)'s idea. Then to avoid the computational difficulties, data augmentation method (Tanner and Wong, 1987) and Gibbs sampler (Gelfand and Smith, 1990) are employed. Our methodology is applied to both simulated data and Stangl (1991)'s On-impramint Hydrochloride data.

  • Edge in the image includes the size, direction and location of objects. The existing detection methods for detecting this edge is a method using Sobel, Prewitt, Roberts and Laplacian, etc. These existing methods use a fixed weighted mask in order to detect the edge and have somewhat insufficient edge detection characteristics. Therefore in this paper, an algorithm that detects the edge by applying the grey level converting function according to the pixel distribution of local mask was proposed.

  • Though authentication using biometric techniques has conveniences for people, security problems like the leakage of personal bio-information would be serious. Even if cancelable biometric is a good solution for the problems, only a few biometric authentication scheme with cancelable feature has been published. In this paper, we suggest a face authentication scheme with two security factors: password and face image. Using matching algorithm in the permuted domain, our scheme is designed to be cancelable in the sense that templates that is composed of permutation and weight vector can be changed freely.

  • This paper proposes a saturation compensating method by embedding pseudo-random code information in wavelet packet based colorization algorithm. In the color-to-gray process, an input RGB image is converted into YCbCr images, and a 2-level wavelet packet transform is applied to the Y image. And then, color components of CbCr are embedded into two sub-bands including minimum amount of energy on the Y image. At this time, in order to compensate the color saturations of the recovered color image during the printing and scanning process, the maximum and minimum values of CbCr components of an original image are also embedded into the diagonal-diagonal sub-band by a form of pseudo-random code. This pseudo-random code has the maximum and minimum values of an original CbCr components, and is expressed by the number of white pixels. In the gray-to-color process, saturations of the recovered color image are compensated using the ratio of the original CbCr values to the extracted CbCr values. Through the experiments, we can confirm that the proposed method improves color saturations in the recovered color images by the comparison of color difference and PSNR values.
