  • Grandparent-grandchildren family adolescents(GGFAs) need to be well discussed because they tend to be more influenced by the negative surroundings than ordinary family adolescents. Over the past few years, several studies have been made on the correlation between the risk factor, the protective factor and the school resilience of GGFAs, but these studies have the limit to explain the only correlation between the one factor and the school resilience. So the purpose of this study was to examine not only the direct effect between the risk factor and the protective factor, but also the parametric path and effect that the one factor has influence on the correlation between the another factor and the school resilience of GGFAs. We investigated the 328 GGFAs in Korea, and the analytic method used was the Structural Equation Modeling(SEM). The followings are the results of this paper. It was found that the model adaptability had a considerable validity by inspecting the SEM, which showed not only the direct effect between the risk factor, protective factor and the school resilience of GGFAs, but also the mediation effect by the protective factor. The risk factors - the indifference of teacher, the negative attachment relationship, melancholy, uneasiness etc - had a negative influence on the school resilience of GGFAs. The protective factors - the supporss etteacher, self-esteem etc - had a positive influence on the school resilience of GGFAs. The protective factors were found to reduce the negative influence on the school resilience of GGFAs.

  • Korea Youth Panel (2008) has 2 panels of the 5th year of Knowledge data to perform statistical analysis and regression analysis, the risk factors in the risk conditions of the family of functional deficits, protective factors, the relationship between the mediating effect of psychological adaptation and protective factors verification mechanisms and the psychological adaptation level it is an objective to analyze the protective factors that protect the high youth. To investigate the differences by frequency analysis and personal characteristics of the analyte's was performed t test using PASW (Predictive Analytics Software) 18.0. And to verify the effect of the parameters is performed rank regression analysis for verification of the effects of protection factors for adaptation. Rather than focusing on youth risk factors in social welfare practice field, focusing on processes and protective factors to reduce the risk factors, it is possible to convert the viewpoint overlooking the youth exposed to risk factors. Also, for young people experiencing difficulties that features loss of the family, it is determined that the prepared foundation which can be provided in the direction of social welfare practical intervention.

  • The purpose of this study was to present the empirical data for the prevention of suicide by analyzing the group differences according to the types of risk factors and protective factors of family members living with dementia patients and the effects of each type on suicidal ideation. This study investigated the characteristics of suicidal ideation among family members of people living with dementia by using a community health survey. It then investigated the effect of each latent group on the suicidal ideation of family members of people living with dementia. Twenty-four risk and protective factors on suicide ideation were analyzed by using Mplus. The four latent classes were high risk - low protective, high risk - high protective, low risk - high protective and low risk - low protective. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the high risk-low protective factor group had the highest suicidal ideation. Based on these results, practical implications and challenges were presented.

  • This study aims to verify the mechanism of mediated effects for protective factor among the relations of risk factor, protective factor and psychology adaptation under risky situation as functionally deficient family, and to identify the protective factors that protects adolescents with high psychology adaptation level. To achieve these goals, descriptive statistic analysis, regression analysis and logistic-regression analysis were conducted using the 5th year data of the Korea Youth Panel Study (Junior high panel) surveyed in 2008 by National Youth Policy Institute. The study results first shows that the psychology adaptation level of adolescents who experienced functionally deficient family varies depending their self-esteem and attachment to school friends. Second, it was found that there are mediated effects in the impacts of functionally deficient family on psychology adaptation. Therefore, in social work field, it is advisable to focus on the process to mitigate the risk factors or to strengthen protective factors rather than focus on the risk factors of adolescents. With this method, the negative perception of adolescents exposed to risk factors can be changed as well as the way of intervention for supporting them.

  • The purposes of this study are, 1) to explore the factors related to the family caregivers' preferences for service utilization both of the community-based welfare and health-care services, and 2) to examine the reasons why not want to use services analyzing a survey data obtained from family caregivers(n=1,000). Anderson and Newman's Behavior model was employed to examine the factors related to the preferences for service utilization. The main results are as follows. 1) Logistic regression analyses demonstrated that predisposing factor(such as age and relations with frail elderly) and enabling factor(such as economic status, secondary caregiver, informal informational support provider, etc) were significant predictor for caregivers' preference for service utilization. Contrary to an expectation, needs factor was negatively related to the preference for service. More specifically, the more they have service needs, the less they show their willingness to use community-based service both in welfare and health-care services except for care education program. 2) Caregiver identified 'family caregiving consciousness'(family should take care of frail elderly, elderly dislike be taken care of) as an important reason not want to use community services next to financial factor. These findings have several implications for policy making especially for 'public long-term care insurance' which was planned to start in 2007.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the Influence of burden of care for families of the mentally disabled on the quality of life and the moderating effect of family resilience and social support. This study carried out a survey of 102 families of the mentally disabled registered in the mental health centers and social rehabilitation facilities in Seoul, Gyeonggi and Incheon areas. As a result, first, the burden of caring for families of the mentally disabled has a negative impact on the quality of life. Second, family resilience has a moderating effect on the relationship between the burden of care and the quality of life of families of the mentally disabled. The subscales of family resilience were all buffered. Finally, social support has proved to be moderating in the relationship between the burden of care and the quality of life. Based on the results of this study, it was suggested that the need for providing information for improving the resilience of the family is needed, and the institutional support to mitigate the economic burden of the mental disabled family's social support network is needed.

  • This study examined the factors affecting family caregiver's preference for utilization of community care services among those who are caring for 65+ elderly parents, and aimed to show how social eldercare services would be settled in Korea. Help-seeking behavior model developed by Anderson and Newman(1973) was used to analyze the factors affecting their preference for utilizing the community care service among 283 family caregivers. Frequency, Chi-square, and Multinominal logistic analysis on SAS 6.12 was used. According to the results, about 90% of the family caregivers have preference for community and institute care services. In community care service, about a half comprise the preference with charge while the other without charge. However, about 90% of those for institute care service show their willingness to pay for the service. Also, a majority of caregivers like to rely on social eldercare service, rather than family as exclusively responsible, against long-term care for their elderly parents. Multinominal analysis demonstrates that use versus nonuse of community care services is primarily affected by predisposing factors(including age, carer-caree closeness, and familism) and need factors (including economic or psychological burden of eldercare, and additional role for family care). Enabling factors, such as family income level, economic support from other family members and siblings, and supportive care-helpers, are mainly associated with the preferences of free versus charge in service use. These findings provide some implications and suggestions for the development of social eldercare services in our aging society.
