  • This study aims to investigate the effect of husbands' emotional abuse on wives' depression and mediating effects of marital adjustment and coping. The subject of this study is wives of men who had completed batterer intervention programs at domestic violence counselling centers. In order to investigate the effect of emotional abuse, among the 116 questionnaires collected by wives the cases in which physical violence was reported were excluded. Ultimately, a total of 77 cases were analyzed using the Partial Least Square method of structural equation model methodology. The key findings from this study are as follows. First, the wives in this study showed a high rate of exposure to emotional abuse by their husbands although the physical violence was gone. Second, emotional abuse by husbands significantly affected depression on their wives. Third, marital adjustment was found to have a mediating effect on the relationship between the emotional abuse and the depression. Fourth, a mediating effect from passive coping was revealed; in particular, avoiding was the most powerful factor explaining the relationship between the emotional abuse and the depression. However, active coping failed to mediate the relationship between the emotional abuse and the depression.

Method : Four and half years old boy who has been diagnosed of PDD received 40 min of one intervention session and 50 min of 3 intervention sessions. The intervention was a part of the 2008 Sensory Integration Treatment Course developed by the Korean Academy of Sensory Integration (KASI) and all sessions were implemented under supervision by experts. Result : Adaptive responses of the child were enhanced throughout the intervention process in terms of postural response and peer interaction. His oral defensiveness is improved. As the intervention progressed, he exhibited more active movements, louder voice, and coherence within peer group. Conclusion : This case report demonstrates effectiveness of a short-term intensive intervention program in terms of improving adaptive response. To enrich the effectiveness, tt is suggested to educate parents about neurological base of the child's behaviors so the they understand the importance of various sensory experience within play.

  • Introduction : Animal studies cannot be applied directly to Occupational Therapy(OT) intervention protocol. However, animal models still provide essential evidences and knowledge to improve OT practice and to develop OT theories as well as human studies do. The purpose of this scholarly paper is to explore the potential of animal models to inform OT theory and practice particularly as it relates to neuroscience. Body : The animal models provide related knowledge for a better understanding of the mechanism of diseases and related neural networks. Based on this knowledge, researchers can test their hypothesis of neural disease. In addition, accumulated animal studies contribute to introduce the new approaches to human diseases and to improve the effectiveness of treatment. Conclusions : Animal models of neurological disease are critical and have the potential to improve OT practice and theory in many ways. Therefore, OT researchers need to pay more attention to animal models in addition human studies.
