Heavy Metal Contents of Compost from Household Food Waste (음식쓰레기 퇴비화과정 중 중금속함량 변화)

  • The heavy metal concentration in mixed and separately collected household food waste, and their compost during the composting period was analysed. The mixed and separately collected food waste had Cd content of 8 mg/kg in spring and its content of 13 mg/kg in winter respectively. Its content was higher than by-product compost limit value(5 mg Cd/kg). Cd concentration in separately collected food waste in a house was higher in January, February, April and May than by-product compost limit value (5 mg Cd/kg). When Cd concentration in the initial composting material was higher than 5 mg/kg, its concentration in the compost of household food waste during the composting period was higher than by-product compost limit value, but it was not accumulated in the compost during the composting period. Fly ash was added to separately collected household food waste to adjust its moisture content for composting. Its addition had moisture conditioning and Cd concentration reducing effect in the compost. The average one month composted fresh compost from the mixed collected household food waste was matured in a pile out of doors for 7 months with turning the pile once a month and its heavy metal concentration was examined. Accumulation of the heavy metals in the compost did not occur during the composting period, because they were washed out during the rainfall.

  • This study was conducted to analysis citizen's attitude and style to the foodwaste from l0th Sept. to 30th Sept. in 1996. The research was used questionare method and analysis was used prequency analysis and cross table method by SPSS (scientific statistics). The foodwaste of householdwaste account for 24.8%, and the magnitude by the kinds of garbage were waste from pre-cocking stage, fruitshell, foodwaste remained after eating, septic foodwaste during storage. The more the housewives'age are young, foodwaste volumne were much. Most remained foodwaste after eating were soup and pot stew. The main cause of foodwaste production was overvolumne cooking. 88.8% of answers think that a menu can be useful to reduce foodwaste. The survey showed that 87.3% of answers put into the meter-rate bag after removed wetness of garbage. 84.1% of answers thought that the recycling of foodwaste needed, but the practical housewife was only 21%. For the suitable treatment of foodwaste, Survey showed that the consistent policy of goverment and continuous publicity was needed essentially, and that the public notice of TV or radio was effective. All of answers would like to participate in recycling of foodwastes whether public-posting or personal-posting. To set up vessel of posting at household, the proper purchase price and space of institution are needed, also the solution of sanitory & aesthetic problem and the collection of composting-product must be achieved smoothly.

  • This study was conducted to analysis citizen's attitude and style to the foodwaste from loth Sept. to 30th Sept. in 1996. The research was used questionare method and the analysis was used prequency analysis and cross table method by SPSS (scientific statistics). they answered that the most serious environment problem was waste problem and the best way to settle waste problem was to reduce waste production itself. And they answered that to settle environment problems, it was most important for us to change our life style. But It was not agreed between consciousness and action(execution). Because most of the food-related waste was among household waste, it's settlement was the most importment thing than any other. Nevertheless the seperation of waste was essential to effective incineration, the seperation process was not actually conducted and only a few housewife knew the difference of incinerable and non-incinerable waste. The recycling for the disused dry-cells and garbage is not completly. But we think that if the effective government's recycling counterplan for wastes, foodwaste or wasted dry cell, etc., is estabilished, rates of seperation and collection was increasing. Much usuage of onetime vinyl bag for shopping was become the one of the main cause in increasing the package waste, and so it was needed to use the longlife shopping basket.

Treatment of Waste Food using Mixed Microorganisms Responsible for the Degradation of Malodor Compounds (혼합 미생물에 의한 음식쓰레기 처리와 악취 제거)

  • To explore the effective treatment methods for waste food generating malodor compounds, mixed microorganisms (MM) capable of deodorizing of domestic animal waste were applied using household composting box. The mixture of 5 kg whole chips as a bulk agent, 2 kg MM and 1 kg of waste food were input into the compost reactor and agitated. Waste food was supplemented every 24 hours. As the results, the composting volume was stable at 13∼14 L for 10 days. In the initial compost process with MM, the pH and temperature were increased more quickly than that of without MM. Also, the conductivity recognized as a barometer of compost was increased from 0.2 to 2.4 mS/cm that was higher than 1.3 mS/cm of without MM, for 10 days. The malodor compounds generated from waste food treatment such as sulfur compounds and volatile fatty acids were effectively reduced about 90∼l00%, and 70∼80% for 8 days, respectively. The microorganisms growing under the condition of alkaline phase and higher temperature were dominated during the compost Moreover, it was demonstrated that inoculated Bacillus cereus HY15 dominated during the compost results in responsible to the effective treatment of waste food.

The Quantitative Effect of Environmental Education on Energy-Saving and Garbage-Reducing Behaviour (환경교육이 에너지 및 쓰레기 절감에 미치는 정량적 효과에 관한 연구)

  • Although environmental education has increased in importance, few studies have been performed on the quantitative effect of environmental education on energy-saving and garbage-reducing behavior. Accordingly, this study quantitatively analyses the effect of environmental education on energy-saving and garbage-reduction. In this study, we compared reduction in energy use and garbage production between two groups, one receiving specialized and focused environmental education, and one receiving only general environmental education. We found that focused environmental education resulted in some quantifiably positive effects in encouraging energy-saving and garbage-reducing behavior. Specifically, household energy costs and amounts of school food waste for children receiving specialized environmental training were noticeably lower than those for children receiving only general environmental education. These results suggest that enhanced environmental education policy, including the launching of an environmental model school, is needed both to reduce energy use and garbage production.

  • 본 논문에서는 음식 상태관리를 위한 디스플레이 기능과 압력센서를 통한 전력 소비량을 최소화 할 수 있는 스마트 냉장고를 제안한다. 일상적으로 쉽게 남기고 버리는 음식물 쓰레기도 환경 오염을 유발하는 주요 원인 중 하나다. 음식물 쓰레기 배출 비율은 일반 가정이 61%, 외식산업이 26%, 소매업이 13%를 차지하는 것으로 나타났다. 사용자의 편의성을 위해 터치패드를 사용하여 유통기한, 음식의 위치, 각종 레시피 등 다양한 기능을 추가하여 음식물이 부패하기 전에 음식물들을 발견할 수 있고, 그에 따라 버려지는 음식물이 줄어들 것이다. 또한, 선반의 압력센서를 통하여 식품를 감지하고 관련 전원 공급등의 조율를 통한 효율성을 제고하였다.

  • 현재 사회적 문제로 잘못된 자원 재활용 방법 및 경비 노동자 근로 환경 개선 필요성이 지속해서 대두되고 있으며, 최근 발생한 코로나바이러스로 인하여 배달 음식의 수요가 증가하여 각 가정에서 배출되는 쓰레기의 양이 매우 증가하였다. 이러한 사회적 문제를 효율적으로 대처하기 위하여 본 논문에서는 분리수거가 가능한 사물을 인식하여 AI 모듈로 객체 정보를 전송하고 전송된 정보에 따라 적절한 분리수거를 수행하는 스마트 분리수거 자동화 시스템을 개발하였다. 본 연구에서는 잘못된 객체 정보 전송을 최소화하고, 객체 인식률의 정확도를 높이기 위하여 많은 종류의 Custom dataset을 Yolo_Mark, Scaling Annoter Tool을 이용하여 직접 라벨링 하였으며 K-means Clustering 알고리즘을 적용하여 더욱 정확한 분리수거 자동화 시스템을 구현하였다. 본 연구를 바탕으로 불필요한 자원과 인력 낭비를 줄일 수 있으며, 인간이 아닌 시스템에 의해 통제되므로 더욱 정확한 분리수거가 가능하다.

  • In the course of developing a small composter for dwelling house, we designed two different small bins; one is insullated (type 1) and the other uninsullated (type 2). Several interesting results were abtained from the study using these bins for garbage composting in winter, spring and summer. Changes in microbial number were very similar to those observed in the general composting process. However, microbial flora was relatively simple. The genera Streptomyces and Nocardia of actinomycetes and the genera Aspergillus, Penicillium, Mucor, Absidia, Rhizopus of hypomycetes was observed from the composted materials. Thermophiles secreted most of the ${\alpha}-amylase$ secreted in winter but mesophilic actinomycetes did in summer. The amount of secreted protease was much lower in winter than in summer. Lipases were secreted more by mesophiles than thermophiles. Only Aspergillus of hypomycetes was observed to degrade cellulose. Generally, the appearance of enzyme producing microorganisms increased in summer than in the other seasons. In the point of seasonal increase of temperature and changes in microbial flora, the number of microorganisms was higher in summer or spring than in winter.

  • This study aims to review and analyze the contents related to environment among curriculum of Technology$.$Home Economics subject; to produce multimedia learning materials and web-based materials for effective environmental education: and to find the way to effectively utilize them in schools. The data were analyzed by t-test with SPSS Win 10.0 program. The results of this study are as follows; First, the textbook carries a lot of contents concerning the environment. Second, the multimedia materials help students to understand environmental issues and strengthen their attitudes of environmental problems very effectively. Third, after using the instructional multimedia materials, the students showed significantly different results.
