  • Membranes are used to separate pure gas from gas mixtures. In this study, three different types of mass transport through a membrane were developed in order to investigate the gas separation capabilities of a membrane. The three different models typically used are a lumped model, a multi-cell model, and a discretization model. Despite the multi-cell model producing similar results to a discretization model, the discretization model was selected for this investigation, due to the cell number dependence of a multi-cell model. The mass transport model was then used to investigate the effects of pressure difference, flow rate, total exposed area, and permeability. The results showed that the pressure difference increased with the stage cut, but the selectivity was a trade-off for the increasing pressure difference. Additionally, even though permeability is an important parameter, the selectivity and stage cut of the membrane converged as permeability increased.

  • Analysis on gas accidents by types occurred has been made to prevent the recurrence of accidents, through analysis of past history of gas accident occurring environment. The number of gas accidents has been decreasing, but still accidents are occurring steadily. Gas-using environment and gas accidents are estimated to be closely connected since gas-using types are changing by time period, weather, etc. in terms of accident contents. As a result of analysing gas accidents by 7 meteorological elements, such as the mean temperature, the highest temperature, the lowest temperature, relative humidity, the amount of clouds, precipitation and wind velocity, it has been found out that gas accidents are influenced by temperature or relative humidity, and accident occurs more frequently when the sky is clean and wind velocity is slow. Possibility of gas accidents can be provided in real time, using the proposed model made to predict gas accidents in connection with the weather forecast service. Possibility and number of gas accidents will be checked real time by connecting to the business system of Korea Gas Safety Corp., and it is considered that it would be positively used for preventing gas accidents.

  • A pressure control law to regulate pressure of gas generator is suggested. To design a model based control law, the governing equation which consists of Robert and conservation equation is built and verified through the ground burning test. PID and nonlinear adaptive control laws are designed to analyze the loop response characteristics under the system which has varying eigen properties arisen from combustion volume change. It is suggested that new approach, gain scheduling design, is required to overcome the defects identified from numerical simulation results of the two control laws. The newly suggested scheme shows good control performance even under disturbances and measurement noise.

  • Pipeline network analysis requires fluid mechanics. A lot of equations have been used for flow analysis according to the behavior of fluid in pipelines and the operative situations. In this paper, simulation and analysis have been performed for the pipeline network system in Kyungin area using a steady-state mathematical model. Then, a statistical model using partial least squares(PLS) method has been developed with the data obtained from the developed mathematical model. The results showed that it is possible to simulate and analyze pipeline network systems using statistical approach.

  • With the expansion of domestic hydrogen fuelling station infrastructure, it is necessary to secure reliability among hydrogen traders, and for this, technology to accurately measure hydrogen is important. In this study, 4 types of hydrogen trading volume calculation models (model 1-4) were presented to improve the accuracy of the hydrogen trading volume. In order to obtain the reference value of model 4, and experiment was conducted using a flow rate measurement equipment, and the error rate of the calculated value for each model was compared and analyzed. As a result, model 1 had the lowest metering accuracy, model 2 had the second highest metering accuracy and model 3 had the highest metering accuracy until a certain point. But after the point, model 2 had the highest metering accuracy and model 3 had the second metering accuracy.

  • This study was performed to develop the dispersion modeling methodology for quantitative prediction of the hazard distance or toxic buffer distance by comparing 10-min average, 30-min average, and 1-hr average maximum ground-level concentration with $Cl_2$ regultaion concentration, IDLH and ERPG-3 concentration for hazardous toxic gas, $Cl_2$ releases from the storage tank of the chemical plant facilities. For this dispersion modeling, the source term model, dispersion model, meteorological and topographical data are incorporated into the SuperChems model, and then the effects of the atmospheric stability, wind speed, and surface roughness length changes on the maxum ground-level concentration were estimated.

  • Estimation of pressurant mass flowrate and its total mass required to maintain propellant tank pressure during propellant outflow is very important for design of pressurization control system and pressurant storage tank. Especially, more pressurant mass is required to maintain pressure in cryogenic propellant tank, because of reduced specific volume of pressurant due to heat transfer between pressurant and tank wall. So, basic model for propellant tank ullage calculation was proposed to estimate ullage and tank wall temperature distribution, required pressurant mass, and energy distribution of pressurant in ullage. Both test and theoretical analysis have been conducted, but only theoretical modeling method was addressed in this paper.
