A VHF/UHF-Band Variable Gain Low Noise Amplifier for Mobile TV Tuners (모바일 TV 튜너용 VHF대역 및 UHF 대역 가변 이득 저잡음 증폭기)

  • This paper presents a VHF/UHF-band variable gain low noise amplifier for multi-standard mobile TV tuners. A proposed VHF-band variable gain amplifier is composed of a resistive shunt-feedback low noise amplifier to remove external matching components, a single-to-differential amplifier with input PMOS transcoductors to improve low frequency noise performance, a variable shunt-feedback resistor and an attenuator to control variable gain range. A proposed UHF-band variable gain amplifier consists of a narrowband low noise amplifier with capacitive tuning to improve noise performance and interference rejection performance, a single-to-differential with gm gain control and an attenuator to adjust gain control range. The proposed VHF-band and UHF-band variable gain amplifier were designed in a $0.18{\mu}m$ RF CMOS technology and draws 22 mA and 17 mA from a 1.8 V supply voltage, respectively. The designed VHF-band and UHF-band variable gain amplifier show a voltage gain of 27 dB and 27 dB, a noise figure of 1.6-1.7 dB and 1.3-1.7 dB, OIP3 of 13.5 dBm and 16 dBm, respectively.

  • In this paper, we propose the control method of output impedance of each cascode unit cell of distributed amplifier by connecting varactors in the gate-terminal of common gate. Compared to common source unit cell, cascode unit cell has many advantages such as high gain and high output impedance as well as negative resistance loading. But if the transistor model which is used in design is inaccurate and process parameter is changed, oscillation sometimes can occur at band edge in which the gain start to drop. Therefore, we need control circuit which can prevent oscillation, although the circuit has already fabricated, and varactor connected to gate-terminal of common gate of cascode gain cell can play that part. Measured result of fabricated distributed amplifier shows the capability of contol of gain characteristic by adjusting of value of varactors, this can guarantee the stability of the circuit. The gain is $8.92\pm0.82dB$ over 49 GHz, the group delay is $\pm9.3 psec$ over 41 GHz. All transistor which has $0.15{\mu}m$ gate length is GaAs based p-HEMT, and distributed amplifier is put together with 4 stages.

  • 본 논문은 눈의 무게에 따른 압력센서의 전압변화를 이용하여 모터 구동 제어 및 제설이 가능한 방법을 제안하였다. 자동 제설 장치는 눈의 무게에 따른 압력 센서의 전압변화를 MCU의 내부 ADC를 이용하여 센서의 아날로그 값을 디지털 값으로 변환 한다. 변환한 디지털 값을 이용하여 MCU에서 무게를 판단하고, 그에 따라 모터의 구동을 제어 하게 된다. MCU의 무게 판단은 압력 센서에 가해지는 무게에 따라 변하는 압력센서의 가변저항 특성을 이용하게 되며, 직렬 저항 회로를 구성하여 압력센서의 전압 변화의 값을 ADC의 입력으로 주게 된다. 입력된 아날로그 값을 ADC로 디지털 값으로 변환하게 된다. 변환된 디지털 값을 MCU에서 판단하게 되며, 판단의 결과로 모터의 구동을 제어하게 된다. 즉, 이러한 시스템을 통하여 비닐하우스의 지붕의 눈을 실시간으로 자동 제설하게 된다.

Three-Dimensional Subsurface Resistivity Profile using Electrical Resistance Tomography for Designing Grounding Grid (접지 그리드 설계를 위한 전기 저항 단층촬영법에 기반한 지표의 3차원 저항률 분포 추정)

  • Installation of earth grounding system is essential to ensure personnel safety and correct operation of electrical equipment. Earth parameters, especially, soil resistivity has to be determined in designing an efficient earth grounding system. The most common applied technique to measure soil resistance is Wenner four-point method. Implementation of this method is expensive, time consuming and cumbersome as large set of measurements with variable electrode spacing are required to obtain a one dimensional resistivity plot. It is advantageous to have a method which is of low cost and provides fast measurements. In this perspective, electrical resistance tomography (ERT) is applied to estimate subsurface resistivity profile. Electrical resistance tomograms characterize the soil resistivity distribution based on the measurements from electrodes placed in the region of interest. The nonlinear ill-posed inverse problem is solved using iterated Gauss-Newton method with Tikhonov regularization. Through extensive numerical simulations, it is found that ERT offers promising performance in estimating the three-dimensional soil resistivity distribution.

An Active Tunable Bandpass Filter Design for High Power Application (고출력 특성을 고려한 능동 가변 대역 통과 여파기 설계)

  • In this paper, a high power active tunable bandpass filter made of dielectric resonators and varactor diodes is designed using the active capacitance circuit generating negative resistance for tuning cellular TX, RX band. An active capacitance circuit's series feedback circuit using GaAs HFET whose $P_{1dB}$ is 32 dBm is used for compensating the losses from the varactor diodes of the tunable bandpass filter. The tuning elements, the varactor diodes are used as the back-to-back configuration to achieve the high power performance, The designed active capacitance circuit improves the insertion loss characteristics. The designed 2-stage active tunable dielectric bandpass filter at cellular band can cover from 800 MHz to 900 MHz. The insertion losses at 836 MHz and 881.5 MHz with 25 MHz bandwidth are 0.48 dB and 0.39 dB, respectively. The $P_{1dB}$ of the designed bandpass filter at TX and RX band are measured as 19.5 dBm and 23 dBm, respectively.

  • This paper proposes a novel fault diagnosis method of a electrolytic capacitor used for DC-link voltage smoothing in adjustable speed drives. The equivalent series resistance (ESR) of the electrolytic capacitor is directly estimated from DC-link voltage and load currents and the status of the electrolytic capacitor is determined from the estimated ESR. To compensate the variation of the ESR owing to temperature variation, diodes are located on the same PCB near the capacitor and the temperature of the capacitor is sensed indirectly from the voltage drop of diodes. Simulation and experimental studies show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • A swing level controlled voltage-mode transmitter is proposed to support a stub series-terminated logic channel with center-tapped termination. This transmitter provides a swing level control to support the diagnostic mode and improve the signal integrity in the absence of the destination termination. By using the variable parallel termination, the proposed transmitter maintains the constant output impedance of the source termination while the swing level is controlled. Also, the series termination using an external resistor is used to reduce the impedance mismatch effect due to the parasitic components of the capacitor and inductor. To verify the proposed transmitter, the voltage-mode driver, which provides eight swing levels with the constant output impedance of about $50{\Omega}$, was implemented using a 70nm 1-poly 3-metal DRAM process with a 1.5V supply. The jitter reduction of 54% was measured with the swing level controlled voltage-mode driver in the absence of the destination termination at 1.6-Gb/s.

Fabrication of tunable all-fiber feedback laser and its application (파장가변이 가능한 완전 광섬유형 궤환 레이저 구현 및 응용)

  • In this paper, a tunable fiber feedback laser based on the use of Sagnac loop filter and fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is proposed. The Sagnac loop filter using a high birefringence fiber provides precise 0.33-nm channel spacing as a multi-wavelength grid filter. Ni-Cr wire wound on the FBG is useful to induce the thermo-optic effect of the fiber. Two types of FBG structures, which have a different length of wire, are demonstrated to show the wavelength shift and separation. To tune FBG by resistant heat, some current is supplied into the wire. When the wavelength matched with one of the cavity modes of Sagnac loop filter, the mode-locked lasing is occurred. The electrical power sensitivity of the resonant wavelength is measured to 1.75pm/mW. This laser configuration can be applied the electrical power system for monitoring the power fluctuation.

강자성체를 이용한 연속 가변 토크 제어 전달 기구의 개발

  • 4륜 장착 자동차의 토크 전달은 2륜 구동, 4륜 구동 모드를 간단히 전환하는 방식(part time 4WD)과 항시 사륜 구동 모드에서 전후륜의 토크 전달비를 제어하는 방식(AWD, all wheel drive)이 있다. 경제의 발달에 따라서 취미 인구의 확대로 국내에만 180만 명의 R/C car 사용자가 있다. 이 중 2WD-4WD의 전환을 differential lock mechanism으로 구현한 수입산 모델의 가격이 1,000,000원을 호가하지만 가변 제어 방식이 아닌, 정차 후 2-4륜 구동 전환 방식을 적용하고 있으며 상대적으로 내구성이 떨어진다. DC motor의 출력이 늘어나고 배터리의 성능이 좋아진 현재 소형 RC car의 최고 속도는 80 km/h 정도로 빨라졌다. 그러나 마찰 계수가 낮은 노면(실내의 대부분 평활 처리된 복도)에서는 2륜 구동 모드의 활용도가 매우 낮다. 미끄러운 노면에서 후륜 구동 모드로는 oversteer가 발생하여 차량이 스핀하기 쉽고 전륜 구동 모드로는 understeer가 발생하여 제대로 된 코너링이 어렵다. 상시 4륜 구동 모드는 에너지 소모가 크고 전후륜이 tight coupling되어 있는 문제 때문에 일반적인 노면에서 부드러운 코너링이 잘 이루어지지 않는 문제가 있다. 본 연구에서 제안하는 방식은 그림 1와 같이 center shaft의 중간에 영구 자석으로 만들어진 토크 전달용 판이 있고 그 사이에 자계를 차폐할 수 있는 강자성체 셔터를 서보 기구에 연결하여 서보 회전각에 따라서 구동 쪽의 토크가 피구동축으로 전달되는 양을 연속 가변제어할 수 있다. 토크 전달용 판의 차폐 면적에 따른 토크 전달양을 전/후륜 바퀴의 Static torque를 통해 측정하였으며(그림 2), 공중 상태에서 즉 공기저항만을 고려한 상태에서의 RPM 회전수 차이 측정(그림3)을 통해 구동 쪽의 회전수가 피구동축으로 전달되는 양을 측정하여 연속가변 토크 제어 전달 기구의 성능을 확인하였다. 이 기구는 현재 1차적으로는 remote controller의 ch 3(ON/OFF제어 방식)에 연결하여 특정한 양의 토크를 전륜 쪽으로 보낼 수 있도록 구현이 가능하며, ch 2(PID제어 방식)에 연결하여 연속 가변 조절이 가능하도록 구현이 가능하다. 부가적으로 Arduino board를 내장하여 전후륜의 휠센서에서 입력되는 신호를 감지하여 자동적으로 전후륜에 배분되는 토크를 제어할 수 있도록 설계 중에 있다.

Design of 26GHz Variable-N Frequency Divider for RF PLL (RF PLL용 26GHz 가변 정수형 주파수분할기의 설계)

  • This paper describes design of a variable-N frequency synthesizer for RF PLL with $0.13{\mu}m$ silicon CMOS technology being used as an application of the UWB system like MBOA. To get good performance of speed and noise super dynamic circuits was used, and to get variable-N division ratio MOSFET switching circuits was used. Especially to solve narrow bandwidth problem of the dynamic circuits load resistance value of unit divider block was varied. Simulation results of the designed circuit shows very fast and wide operation characteristics as 5~26GHz frequency range.
