In this paper, we present an efficient architecture of a versatile Reed-Solomon (RS) decoder which can be programmed to decode RS codes continuously with my message length k as well as any block length n. This unique feature eliminates the need of inserting zeros for decoding shortened RS codes. Also, the values of the parameters n and k, hence the error-correcting capability t can be altered at every codeword block. The decoder permits 3-step pipelined processing based on the modified Euclid's algorithm (MEA). Since each step can be driven by a separate clock, the decoder can operate just as 2-step pipeline processing by employing the faster clock in step 2 and/or step 3. Also, the decoder can be used even in the case that the input clock is different from the output clock. Each step is designed to have a structure suitable for decoding RS codes with varying block length. A new architecture for the MEA is designed for variable values of the t. The operating length of the shift registers in the MEA block is shortened by one, and it can be varied according to the different values of the t. To maintain the throughput rate with less circuitry, the MEA block uses both the recursive technique and the over-clocking technique. The decoder can decodes codeword received not only in a burst mode, but also in a continuous mode. It can be used in a wide range of applications because of its versatility. The adaptive RS decoder over GF(2$^{8}$ ) having the error-correcting capability of upto 10 has been designed in VHDL, and successfully synthesized in an FPGA chip.
In HEVC, motion estimation is performed independently for each variable block size. So it requires several times of search window data, and also it is difficult to exploit early termination. In this paper, a new method is proposed to exploit search window data and early termination in variable block size. When applied to TZS algorithm, it reduces pixel comparison and search window data accesses to 1/3.7 ~ 1/2.9 with negligible image quality degradation.

In this paper, we propose a new coding method based on the distance between vertex segments for vertex positions in the vertex-based shape coding. The pixel lines are divided into the segments of a fixed length, and the segments that have vertex pixels are called vertex segments. We analyze the probability distribution of the relative distance between vertex segments and prove that it depends only on the ratio between the number of vertices and the number of segments. Considering the coding efficiency and implementation complexity, we choose a particular ratio to make a code table. For each input image, the segment size is chosen according tothe ratio, and the relative segment distances are entropy coded. It is shown that the proposed method is efficient for the images with many vertices.

Video-On-Demand servers use compression techniques to reduce the storage and bandwidth requirements. The compression techniques make the bit rates of compressed video data significantly variable from frame to frame. Consequently, Video-On-Demand servers with a constant bit rate retrieval can not maximize the utilization of resources. It is possible that when variable bit rate video data is stored, accurate description of the bit rate changes could be computed a priori. In this paper, I propose a buffer management scheme called MAX for Video-On-Demand server using variable bit rate continuous media. By caching and prefetching the data, MAX buffer management scheme reduces the variation of the compressed data and increases the number of clients simultaneously served and maximizes the utilization of system resources. Results of trace-driven simulations show the effectiveness of the scheme.

Recently, dynamic proxy caching has been proposed on the distributed environment so that media objects by user's requests can be served directly from the proxy without contacting the server. However, it makes caching challenging due to multimedia large sizes, low latency and continuous streaming demands of media objects. To solve the problems caused by streaming demands of media objects, this paper has been proposed the grouping scheme with fuzzy filtering based on partition and mapping. For partition and mapping, this paper divides media block segments into fixed partition reference block(R$_f$P) and variable partition reference block(R$_v$P). For semantic relationship, it makes fuzzy relationship to performs according to the fixed partition temporal synchronization(T$_f$) and variable partition temporal synchronization(T$_v$). Simulation results show that the proposed scheme makes streaming service efficiently with a high average request response time rate and cache hit rate and with a low delayed startup ratio compared with other schemes.

In H.264, 7 modes {16${\times}$16, 16${\times}$8, 8${\times}$16, 8${\times}$8, 8${\times}$4, 4${\times}$8, 4${\times}$4) are used to enhance the coding efficiency. The motion vector estimation with 7 modes may require huge computing time. In this paper, to speed up the motion vector estimation procedure while the high image quality remains, we propose a motion vector refinement scheme using the temporary motion vector generated with little computation. The proposed estimation process consists of three phases: Mode decision for a 16${\times}$16 macroblock, Composing a temporary motion vector, Refinement of the temporary motion vector. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method by computer simulation. In the results, the encoding time consumed by the proposed scheme has been reduced significantly while the encoded video quality remains unchanged.

Related-Cipher attack was introduced by Hongjun Wu in 2002. We can consider related ciphers as block ciphers with the same round function but different round number and their key schedules do not depend on the total round number. This attack can be applied to block ciphers when one uses some semi-equivalent keys in related ciphers. In this paper we introduce differential related-cipher attacks on block ciphers, which combine related-cipher attacks with differential cryptanalysis. We apply this attack to the block cipher ARIA and SC2000. Furthermore, related-cipher attack can be combined with other block cipher attacks such as linear cryptanalysis, higher-order differential cryptanalysis, and so on. In this point of view we also analyze some other block ciphers which use flexible number of rounds, SAFER++ and CAST-128.

The purpose of this study is to design and analyze the pre-modulation filter with the variable -3dB cutoff frequency and linear phase response for bandlimiting the allocation of radio frequency bandwidth in PCM/FM transmission system. For the implementation of this required filter, the digital FIR filter, DAC and variable 2nd order LPF have been constructed with the filter block which designed and analyzed by each stage in order to satisfy the attenuation characteristic requirement of the analog 7th order bessel filter. The paper also concerned the linear phase properties for the filter block. Especially we have carried out the linear phase simulation with real parts for variable 2nd order LPF and compared this simulation results with the one of the fixed bandwidth 2nd order bessel filter for validating the linear phase requirement.
