Passive fitting of meso-structure and super-structures is a predominant requirement for the longevity and clinical success of osseointegrated dental implants. However, precision and passive fitting has been unpredictable with conventional methods of casting as well as for corrective techniques. Alternative to conventional techniques, electro discharge machining(EDM) is an advanced method introduced to dental technology to improve the passive fitting of implant prosthesis. In this technique material is removed by melting and vaporization in electric sparks. Regarding the efficacy of EDM, the application of this technique induces severe surface morphological and elemental alterations due to the high temperatures developed during machining, which vary between $10,000{\sim}20,000^{\circ}C$. The aim of this study was to investigate the morphological and elemental alterations induced by EDM process of casting dental gold alloy and non-precious alloy used for the production of implant-supported prosthesis. A conventional clinical dental casting alloys were used for experimental specimens patterns, which were divided in three groups, high fineness gold alloy(Au 75%, HG group), low fineness gold alloy(Au 55%, LG group) and nonprecious metal alloy(Ni-Cr, NP group). The UCLA type plastic abutment patterns were invested with conventional investment material and were cast in a centrifugal casting machine. Castings were sandblasted with $50{\mu}m\;Al_2O_3$. One casting specimen of each group was polished by conventional finishing(HGCON, LGCON, NPCON) and one specimen of each group was subjected to EDM in a system using Cu electrodes, kerosene as dielectric fluid in 10 min for gold alloy and 20 min for Ni-Cr alloy(HGEDM. LGEDM, NOEDM). The surface morphology of all specimens was studied under an energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDS). The quantitative results from EDS analysis are presented on the HGEDM and LGEDM specimens a significant increase in C and Cu concentrations was found after EDM finishing. The different result was documented for C on the NPEDM with a significant uptake of O after EDM finishing, whereas Al, Si showed a significant decrease in their concentrations. EDS analysis showed a serious uptake of C and Cu after the EDM procedure in the alloys studied. The C uptake after the EDM process is a common finding and it is attributed to the decomposition of the dielectric fluid in the plasma column, probably due to the development of extremely high temperatures. The Cu uptake is readily explained from the decomposition of Cu electrodes, something which is also a common finding after the EDM procedure. However, all the aforementioned mechanisms require further research. The clinical implication of these findings is related with the biological and corrosion resistance of surfaces prepared by the EDM process.

A greening phenomenon has been observed in some plant foods such as chestnut, sweet potato, burdock, and others during processing. The formation of the pigments was postulated as reactions of primary amino compounds with chi orogenic acid or caffeic acid ester, yielding acridine derivatives. Acridine derivatives have been regarded as mutagenetic agents. For the reason, the bacterial reverse mutation test was carried out to evaluate the genotoxicity of green pigment using Salmonella typhimurium TA98 and TA100. Alanine, arginine, aspartic acid, glycine, lysine, and phenylalanine were reacted repectively with chlorogenic acid to synthesize model compound. Green pigment was extracted from sweet potato. Maximum concentration of 2 and 50 mg/plate was tested for the synthetic green pigments and extracted green pigment respectively, taking bacterial survival, solubility, and color intensity into consideration. There was no signigicant increase in the reverse mutation either with or without S9 activation system by any test material. Though further studies with other genotoxicity test system are necessary, both synthetic and sweet potato green pigments seemed not to cause mutation despite the acridine moiety in their structures.

This study proposed the method of phosphate recovery from municipal wastewater by using ferrous iron waste, generated from the mechanical process in the steel industry. In the analysis of XRD, ferrous iron waste was composed of $Fe_3O_4$ (magnetite), practically with $Fe^{2+}$ and $Fe^{3+}$. It had inverse spinel structure. In order to identify the adsorption characteristic of phosphate on ferrous iron waste, isotherm adsorption test was designed. Experimental results were well analyzed by Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm theories. Empirical constants of all isotherms applied increased with alkalinity in the samples, ranging from 1.2 to 235 $CaCO_3/L$. In the regeneration test, empirical constants of Langmuir isotherm, i.e., $q_{max}$ (maximum adsorption capacity) and b (energy of adsorption) decreased as the frequency of regeneration was increased. Experiment was further performed to evaluate the performance of the treatment scheme of chemical precipitation by ferrous iron waste followed by biological aerated filter (BAF). The overall removal efficiency in the system increased up to 80% and 90% for total phosphate (TP) and soluble phosphate (SP), respectively, and the corresponding effluent concentrations were detected below 2 mg/L and 1 mg/L for TP and SP, respectively. However, short-circuit problem was still unsolved operational consideration in this system. The practical concept applied in this study will give potential benefits in achieving environmentally sound wastewater treatment as well as environmentally compatible waste disposal in terms of closed substance cycle waste management.

In order to improve the quality of canned oyster, canned oyster in oil as control, canned smoked oyster in oil and canned liquid smoked oyster in oil were prepared, and the masking effect of green meat and the stability of their qualities during storage were examined. Three kinds of canned oyster products showed little change in pH, VBN and TBA during 4 months storage in room temperature. In texture of the products, however, hardness and toughness of all the products decreased slightly after 3 months storage, while elasticity and cohesiveness did not change largely up to 4 months storage. Green meat appeared on the surface of canned oyster in oil as control after 30 days storage. And the masking of green meat could be achieved more effectively by dipping treatment of meat for 30 seconds in smoke flavor(Smoke-EZ, Alpha Foods Co., Ltd.) solution than conventional smoking process.
Flow-induced voids during resin impregnation and poor fiber wetting give serious effects on the mechanical properties of composites in resin transfer molding process. In order to better understand the characteristics of resin flow and to investigate the mechanism of void formation, flow visualization experiment for the resin impregnation was carried out on plain weaving glass fiber mats using silicon oils with various viscosity values. The permeability and the capillary pressure for the fiber mats of different porosities were obtained by measuring the penetration length of the resin with time and with various injection pressure. At low porosity and low operating pressure, the capillary pressure played a significant role in impregnation process. Video-assisted microscopy was used in taking the magnified photograph of the flow front of the resin to investigate the effect of the capillary pressure on the void formation. The results showed that the voids were formed easily when the capillary pressure was relatively high. No voids were detected above the critical capillary number of 2.75$\times$$10^{-3}, and below the critical number the void content increased exponentially with decrease of the capillary number. The content of void formed was independent of the viscosity of the resin. For a given capillary number, the void content reduced with the lower porosity of the fiber mat.

We present a simple, cost-effective, and fast fabrication process for three-dimensional (3D) microstructures; this process is based on multi-step electrochemical etching of metal foils which facilitates the mass production of 3D microstructures. Compared to electroplating, this process maintains uniform and well-controlled material properties of the microstructure. In the experimental study, we perform single-step electrochemical etching of aluminum foils for the fabrication of 2D cantilever arrays. In the single-step etching, the depth etch rate and bias etch rate are measured as $1.50{\pm}0.10 {\mu}m/min$ and $0.77{\pm}0.03 {\mu}m/min$, respectively. Using the results of single-step etching, we perform two-step electrochemical etching for 3D microstructures with probe tips on cantilevers. The errors in height and lateral fabrication in the case of the fabricated structures are $15.5{\pm}5.8% $ and $3.3{\pm}0.9%$, respectively; the surface roughness is $37.4{\pm}9.6nm$.

Brown rice grains were coated by spraying aqueous protein solution extracted from rice bran using 10% ethanol, and dried at room temperature. Coating procedure was repeated 1-5 times to determine effect of repeated coating, Quality changes in coated brown rice grains were observed during 8 weeks storage. Most coated rice grains gave lower peroxide and acid values, which indicate antioxidative effects of coating. Lipase and lipoxygenase activities generally decreased in grains coated more than three times. Microscopic images of whole kernel and longitudinal section revealed cracking on all brown rice grains including control, and hydration rate constants were not significantly different among treated grains. Compared to non-coated brown rice grains, those coated more than three times, after 8 week storage, showed better quality retention observed in (meaning not clear) higher water-binding capacity, lower gel consistency decrease, less browning, and better textural properties in cooked rice, resulting in better sensory quality.

To study the effects of surface structure of fiber on the decrement of fatty soil removal at high temperature, the following variables were selected: controled and alkali-treated P.E.T.(polyester) fabrics and chopped fibers as substrates to estimate the detergencies, different aging methods of soiled substrates, and different washing temperatures and surfactant solutions. Radiotagged tripalmitin was used as soil and the detergency was estimated by means of liquid scintillation counting method. The results were as following: The surface of the fiber became rough with many grooves and the hydrophilicity of the fiber was increased and the structure of the fabric became loose by alkali treatment. While the detergency of alkali-treated P.E.T. fabric was better than that of controled P. E. T. fabric, there was no significant differences between the detergencies of controled and alkali-treated chopped fibers. These results indicate that the increment of detergency of alkali-treated P.E.T. fabric is mainly resulted from the changes of fabric structure and the improved hydrophilicity of fiber by alkai treatment. The detergency of tripalmitin was increased with elevating temp. below the m.p. of tripalmitin, was decreased around the m.p., and again was increased above the m.p ..It is considered that the decrement of detergency around the m.p. is due to the diffusion of molten tripalmitin into the grooves on fiber surface, the inner part of fiber, and between fibers. When controled and alkali-treated soiled fabrics and soiled chopped fibers were washed in the distilled water and in the Na-DBS solution respectively, below $60^{\circ}C$ detergencies of alkali-treated fabrics and chopped fibers were improved. However above $60^{\circ}C$ this result was reversed. Therefore these results are regarded as the effects of grooves on fiber surface at high temp. and improved hydrophilicity at low temp. by alkali treatment. When controled and alkali-treated soiled fabrics and soiled chopped fibers were hot-aged before washing, the detergencies of both species were decreased generally. Because the soil was diffused into the grooves on fiber surface, the inner part of fiber, and between fibers during hot-aging. The detergencies of hot-aged species were also decreased above certain temp.. These results suggest that the decrement of detergency at high temp. be resulted not only from the diffusion of soil into the grooves on fiber surface, the inner part of fiber, and between fibers, but also from the characteristics of surfactant solutions.
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of aerosolized chemical sanitizers on inhibiting foodborne pathogens such as Escherichia coli O157:H7, Salmonella typhimurium, and Listeria monocytogenes. Five domestic commercial sanitizers subjected to five groups of sanitizer (chlorine-based, hydrogen peroxide-based, Iodophor-based, quaternary ammonium-based, and alcohol-based sanitizers) were aerosolized by an aerosol generator into a model cabinet and treated in laboratory media containing three pathogens for 1 h at room temperature. Aerosolized hydrogen peroxide-based and quaternary ammonium-based sanitizers were effective at inhibiting levels of E. coli O157:H7 (ca. 4-9 log reductions) whereas other aerosolized sanitizers such as chlorine-based, Iodophor-based, and alcohol-based sanitizers did not significantly reduced the levels of E. coli O157:H7. For S. typhimurium, the only aerosolized hydrogen peroxide-based sanitizer was effective and resulted in ca. 5-9 log reduction. Aerosolized hydrogen peroxide-based, Iodophor-based, and quaternary ammonium-based sanitizers significantly reduced levels of L. monocytogenes and especially, aerosolized quaternary ammonium-based sanitizer was strongly effective to kill L. monocytogenes, resulted in higher than 8.8 log reduction. And there was no special trend in inhibitory efficacy of sanitizers aerosolized by 1.6 or 2.4 MHz aerosol generators. From these results, aerosolization has great potential for use in commercial applications however it's efficacy could be very different depending on type of sanitizers.

The characterization of radiological contamination inside pipes generated during the decommission of a nuclear facility is necessary before pipes can be recycled or disposed. But, existing direct measurements of radioactive contamination level using the survey-meter can not estimate the characteristic of contamination on a local area such as the pipe inside. Moreover, the measurement of surface contamination level using the indirect methods has many problems of an application because of the difficulty of collecting sample and contamination possibility of a worker when collecting sample. In this work, plastic scintillator was simulated by using Monte Carlo simulation method for detection of beta radiation emitted from internal surfaces of small diameter pipe. Simulation results predicted the optimum thickness and geometry of plastic scintillator at which energy absorption for beta radiation was maximized. In addition, the problem of scintillator processing and transferring the detector into the pipe inside was considered when fabricating the plastic detector on the basis of simulation results. The characteristic of detector fabricated was also estimated. As a result, it was confirmed that detector capability was suitable for the measurement of contamination level. Also, the development of a detector for estimating the radiological characteristic of contamination on a local area such as the pipe inside was proven to be feasible.
