  • This was a descriptive study aiming to verify the effects of work environment, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment on the turnover intention of Clinical Research Coordinator(CRC) nurses. In the results of this study, the organizational commitment had significant effects on the turnover intention of CRC nurses. On the other hand, the work environment and job satisfaction had no statistically significant effects on the turnover intention of CRC nurses. Based on the results of this study, the main discussions were drawn as follows. In order to increase the organizational commitment, it would be necessary to have the institutional improvement like the increase of opportunity to participate in the hospital operation, administration, and the establishment of affiliated institution for improving a sense of belonging. It would be also necessary for each hospital to establish the standard of welfare, wage system for the improvement of work environment. If the organizational commitment of CRC nurses who are the actual performers, supporters of researches is ignored, it is unavoidable that the performance and quality of clinical tests would be declined. Therefore, there should be some changes, so that CRC nurses could play a pivotal role in the whole process of clinical test, by changing the employment status from contract position to more stable employment status, to increase their commitment to organization and work continuity.

  • This study investigated the prevalence of scoliosis among undergraduate students who were in early adulthood, and to examine its relationship with body mass index (BMI), which has been associated with scoliosis in previous studies. A descriptive survey of 158 students of universities based in Seoul, Daejeon, Daegu, and Gyeonggi Province was conducted. A structured questionnaire comprising items pertaining to general features, postural features, and BMI was used, and the angle of the trunk rotation (ATR) was measured directly with a scoliometer to assess the spinal angle. Participants with an ATR of greater than $6^{\circ}$ were classified into the scoliosis group. Data were collected for three weeks from November 7, 2014. Scoliosis and BMI were analyzed for their frequencies and percentages, and their relationships were analyzed using the ${\chi}^2$-test and Logistic regression. Overall, 114 (72.2%) participants had an ATR of smaller than $5^{\circ}$, while 44 (27.8%) had an ATR of greater than $6^{\circ}$. After excluding the confounding variables, the overweight group was 2.63 times more likely than the normal BMI group to have an ATR of greater than $6^{\circ}$ which was statistically significant. However, the underweight group was 0.24 times less likely than the normal BMI group to have an ATR of greater than $6^{\circ}$, but this difference was not statistically significant. Although early examination and management of scoliosis in South Korea is generally performed on children and adolescents, the high prevalence of scoliosis among university students found in this study calls for aggressive early examination and management for this age group as well.

  • This study was conducted to examine the predictive factors for health promotion behaviors of breast cancer patients, focusing on Pender's health promotion model (1996). Data were collected from 121 patients using a structured questionnaire from September 18 to October 26 in 2015. The data were analyzed with a t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis using SPSS 20.0 for Windows. The predictive factors for the health promotion behavior of the participants were social support, commitment to a plan of action, prior behavior, activity related effects, perceived self-efficacy, family function, perceived benefits of action, and situational influences. The total explanatory power of these factors was 57.8%. Development and application of a nursing intervention plan that enhances patient compliance with health promotion behavior is needed to enable breast cancer patients undergoing rehabilitation to maintain their optimal health and live a high-quality life. Patients who showed a low degree of predictive factors identified in this study are in particular need of attention.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine symptom experiences, sleep quality, and quality of life in asthma patients and investigate any correlation among these factors. The study was conducted on 146 asthma patients that visited the Internal Medicine Department of Allergies at a hospital in Korea from March to June, 2015. Tools that were originally developed by Oh (1999) were used to measure the symptom experience of asthma patients. Sleep quality was measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) while quality of life was measured by the Short Form 36-Items Heath Survey (SF-36). The dates were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test, and Pearson's correlation coefficient using the SPSS 20.0 program. Symptom experiences of asthma patients showed a positive relation with sleep quality (r=.468, p<.001) and negative relationship with quality of life; PCS (r=-495, p<.001) and MCS (r=-.411, p<.001). The symptom experiences of an asthma patient along with sleep quality and quality of life turned out to be correlated. Therefore, this study is expected to be utilized as a basis for the development of assessment tools and arbitration programs to elucidate symptom experiences of asthma patients from various aspects and enhance their sleep quality and quality of life.
