Stepmother Narrative from Southern Buddhist Texts to Root Folklore Affiliated with Northern Buddhist Texts and Formation Course of (남전 불경계 계모형 서사의 북전 불경계 <심청전> 근원설화로의 틈입과 완판본 <심청전>의 계모형 서사 형성과정)

  • This study attempted to investigate the issue how stepmother's narrative was transferred to . For this agenda, the approach of this paper is described below to determine how Bbaengdeok's stepmother narrative was transferred episodically to . First, this paper started from the relation between stepmother narrative and affiliated with each root folk tale in Buddhist text. Among known as root folk tale until now, this paper investigated whether was the root folk tale affiliated to Buddhist literature. At that point, stepmother narrative showed relation with opening eyes motive. It has been reported that the text of opening eyes in Buddhist literature is originated from the south. This paper confirmed that 's stepmother narrative was related to Buddhist literature originated from south. Next, this paper investigated the background of opening eyes motive of stepmother types. After entering Gyeongpan , it formed Bbaengdeok narrative of Wanpan related to Literary geography of Jeollado enjoying space of Wanpan . There are two evidences for this. The first one is which was passed down around Jeollado. In the course of sudden Buddhist folklore's flow into the country, it is that combined stepmother narrative of sudden Buddhist literature with the characteristics of northern Buddhist literature which was reconstructed into son's filial behavior of northern Buddhist literature to make father's blinded eyes open. The other is the Buddhist trend of the late 18th Chosun when northern Buddhist literature and sudden Buddhist literature were combined. It appeared that stepmother narrative was formed in the Buddhist background of the late 18th Chosun when northern Buddhist literature and sudden Buddhist literature were combined.

And I tried to explore the possibilities and directions of contents based on classical literature by exploring the way in which this text reintermediation, and recreates the narrative of . This work deals with the story of ShimChung, and sees the problematic aspects of ShimChung's sacrifice and death through the gaze of the surrounding people such as the Namkyeong merchant and Guideok's mother while excluding the central characters Shimcheong and Shimbongsa. In the process, the voice of Simcheong was discovered as a victim and social hit. And It connects this with the discourse of filial duty and virtuous woman which regulates the life of women in the patriarchal society and establishes the place of social public opinion about the life of the women of the Joseon era. In this way, is presented the possibility of a new interpretation of . Also readers and audiences of present-day have an opportunity to reconsider the 'sacrifice' of social subordinate based on deep understanding of .

A Case Study on Recreating Simcheongjeon in Class A Literary Therapeutic View (문학치료학적 관점에서 본 <심청전> 재창작 수업사례 연구)

  • This paper describes the procedure of recreating the classics which introduced in author's lecture on "Classics and Creation." The work and result of this paper is based on the activities in the Korean language and literature lecture which the author was leading at university A in Seoul in 2014. This paper aims to identify aspects of introspection that college students underwent during the procedure of recreating. The subjects for analysis were the works created by college students participating in the class through three presentations. In section 2, it is discussed three major issues regarding the process of recreating classics. One is "presentation of the background for the selection of the work to recreate and the way of implementation". Second is "analysis of the original works and case studies on recreated works". Third is "recreation of works and meta writing". Those activities were conducted as part of the lecture. In section 3, it is investigated that the pattern of introspection of college students. It focused on analyzing the attitudes of the students toward life based on their selection, analysis, and recreation of classic works. Moreover, their self-assessment of the recreated works was examined as well. It is noted that the attitudes and tendency of students when faced with problems if any. While the students in the class selected diverse works for recreating, this paper compared and analyzed the works and introspective aspects of two students who recreated Simcheongjeon. Therefore, aspects of creativity could be identified based on the pattern of their recreation, which participants subtly describe the relationship with their father in recreated works. In accordance with the analysis, it is required to select more works for an effective class on recreation of classic literature and investigate a more systematic and diverse methodology for doing so. However, since the class for recreation of classic literature uses the narrative of the original work, it would reduce the burden on creation. In addition, it is possible to scrutinize in-depth problems of participant's general issue in life by using classic literature as a medium for introspection. Moreover, it was identified that a public presentation of these works enabled exploring self-narration on more objective aspects and collecting feedback from others.
