Polyethylenimine-crosslinked chitin (PEI-chitin) was developed as a biosorbent to effectively remove dyestuffs from dye-containing wastewater. A representative reactive dye, Reactive Orange 16 (RO16) was used as a model dye. The effect of pH, isotherm, kinetic and desorption experiments were performed to evaluate the adsorption/desorption ability of PEI-chitin for RO16. As a result, the maximum adsorption capacity calculated by the Langmuir model was 266.3 mg/g at pH 2, and the time needed for adsorption equilibrium was evaluated to be about 20, 60, and 240 min for 50, 100, and 200 mg/L, respectively. The desorption experiments were carried out using various eluents such as ammonia/ethanol mixture, NaOH, $NaHCO_3$, and $Na_2CO_3$, and the highest desorption rate was 75.24% in the ammonia/ethanol mixture.

Nano-fibers of the $Li[Ni_{1/3}Co_{1/3}Mn_{1/3}]O_2$ electrode were synthesized from a metal oxide precursor using the electrospun method. The XRD patterns of all prepared powders showed a hexagonal ${\alpha}$ - $NaFeO_2$ structure (space group: R-3 m, 166). Scanning electron microscopy showed that all the synthesized samples were comprised of nanofibers with a size of 100~800 nm. Among the samples tested, the calcined $Li[Ni_{1/3}Co_{1/3}Mn_{1/3}]O_2$ nanowires in oxygen heating atmosphere showed a high charge and discharge capacity of 239.22 and 172.81 $mAhg^{-1}$ at the $1^{st}$ cycle, respectively. In addition, the charge transfer resistance was also improved significantly compared to the other samples.
To realize high-performance thin film solar cells, we prepared CIGS by the co-evaporation technique on both sodalime and Corning glass substrates. The structural and efficient properties were investigated by varying the thickness of the Mo:Na layer, where the total thickness of the back contact was fixed at 1${\mu}m$. As a result, when the Mo:Na thickness was 300 nm on soda-lime glass, the measured Na content was 0.28 %, the surface morphology was a plate-like compact structure, and the crystallinity by XRD showed a strong peak of (112) preferential orientation together with relatively intense (220) and (204) peaks as the secondary phases influenced crystal formation. In addition, the substrates on soda-lime glass effected the lowest surface roughness of 2.76 nm and the highest carrier density and short circuit current. Through the optimization of the Mo:Na layer, a solar conversion efficiency of 11.34% was achieved. When using the Corning glass, a rather low conversion efficiency of 9.59% was obtained. To determine the effects of the concentration of sodium and in order to develop a highefficiency solar cells, a very small amount of sodium was added to the soda lime glass substrate.

To develop preferential CO oxidation reaction (PROX) catalyst for small scale hydrogen generation system, supported Pt catalysts have been applied for the target reaction. The supports were systematically changed to optimize supported Pt catalysts. $Pt/Al_2O_3$ catalyst showed the highest CO conversion among the catalysts tested in this study. This is due to easier reducibility, the highest dispersion, and smallest particle diameter of $Pt/Al_2O_3$. It has been found that the catalytic performance of supported Pt catalysts for PROX depends strongly on the reduction property and depends partly on the Pt dispersion of supported Pt catalysts. Thus, $Pt/Al_2O_3$ can be a promising catalyst for PROX for small scale hydrogen generation system.

A new technique for recycling of white water was developed in order to reduce the calcium hardness in a closed OCC recycling system. Calcium ions present in the white water were precipitated as calcium carbonate by reacting with sodium carbonate, and the precipitated $CaCO_3$ was removed from the system using a flotation fractionation method, which has been commonly used in deinking process. In the flotation stage, a mixed gas of $CO_2$-air was purged into the flotation cell because the pH of $Na_2CO_3$-treated white water was reduced to neutral by $CO_2$ gas. Since $CaCO_3$ precipitate tends to stick onto fine fiber surface and then selectively removed from the white water, a proper amount of suspended solid in white water acts as an important factor for deciding the removal efficiency. By the application of $Na_2CO_3$ addition-$CO_2$ flotation to the short circulated white water, the calcium hardness was significantly reduced by 87% and more. Removal of calcium ions with fine fibers led to a drainage improvement, reduction of fresh water consumption, and enhanced efficiency of wet-end chemicals.

This research elucidates the fundamental properties of carbon dioxide (CO2)-cured mortar as influenced by varying substitution rates of blast furnace slag fine powder. The findings indicate that CO2 curing enhances the formation of calcium carbonate (CaCO3), contributing to pore reduction and the early development of strength. While calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) plays a more pivotal role in the primary development of strength compared to CaCO3, an increase in the substitution rate of blast furnace slag fine powder results in reduced production of Ca(OH)2. Nonetheless, the maintenance of strength through CaCO3 formation is observed even after the depletion of Ca(OH)2, suggesting that the required performance can be sustained post-exposure to the atmosphere following CO2 curing. It is noted that substitution rates exceeding 50% lead to performance deterioration due to CO2, highlighting the necessity for careful adjustment of the substitution ratio.

The aim of this work was to evaluate the dielectric properties of impregnated and activated palm kernel shells (PKSs) samples using two activating agents, potassium carbonate ($K_2CO_3$) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH), at three impregnation ratios. The materials were characterized by moisture content, carbon content, ash content, thermal profile and functional groups. The dielectric properties were examined using an open-ended coaxial probe method at various microwave frequencies (1-6 GHz) and temperatures (25, 35, and $45^{\circ}C$). The results show that the dielectric properties varied with frequency, temperature, moisture content, carbon content and mass ratio of the ionic solids. PKSK1.75 (PKS impregnated with $K_2CO_3$ at a mass ratio of 1.75) and PKSN1.5 (PKS impregnated with NaOH at a mass ratio of 1.5) exhibited a high loss tangent ($tan{\delta}$) indicating the effectiveness of these materials to be heated by microwaves. $K_2CO_3$ and NaOH can act as a microwave absorber to enhance the efficiency of microwave heating for low loss PKSs. Materials with a high moisture content exhibit a high loss tangent but low penetration depth. The interplay of multiple operating frequencies is suggested to promote better microwave heating by considering the changes in the materials characteristics.
A laboratory column experiment was conducted to learn the desalinization effect of rice straw, fresh or predecayed in limed marine soil, compared with gypsum. One third of Ca equivalent to indigenous Na plus Mg of the soil was applied to the top 10g out of 80g of total column soil, mixing one half of it to the top soil and the rest spreading on the surface. 1. Pre-decaying of rice straw in limed marine soil promoted the permeability of column soil. but showed a less effectiveness in desalinization of sodium than lime alone or lime plus fresh rice straw treatemenents. 2. Gypsum and calcium carbonate treatments without rice straw fixed Mg in the limed top soil and washed it down disolving more from the layer immediatly be low the treated top soil But the treatment of calcium carbonate and rice straw both together washed out Mg more from lower layers than the upper's, showing only physical desalinization. 3. The desalinization of Na was also severe in the layer immediately below the $CaSO_4$ treated top soil, leauing more Na ilo the top soil, which seemed to be attributed to the peptisation of the top soil and retard peptisation of desalinization when washed the soil applying not enough amount or non of gypsum.
Dialkyl 1-bromobenzene-2,6-diacetates were easily prepared by the carbonylation of the moiety of benzylic bromide in 1-bromo-2,6-bis(bromomethyl)benzene with alcohol in the presence of NaOAc< TEX>${\cdot}$3H$_2$O and a catalytic amount of Co$_2$(CO)$_8$under the atmospheric pressure of carbon monoxide at room temperature in excellent yield. Alkyl 2,6-bis(alkoxymethyl)benzoates were obtained by the carbonylation of the moiety of aryl bromide in 1-bromo-2,6-bis(alkoxymethyl)-benzene, which derived from 1-bromo-2,6-bis(bromomethyl)benzene, alcohol, NaOR, and CH$_3$I under the same conditions. Alkyl 2,6-bis(carboxymethyl)benzoate was also obtained in a trace amount for 24 hrs at room temperature.
This paper studies the effect of the compressive strength for combined alkali-activated slag mortars. The effect of activators such as alkali type and dosage factor on the strength was investigated. The alkalis combinations made using five caustic alkalis (sodium hydroxide (NaOH, A series), calcium hydroxide ($Ca(OH)_2$, B series), magnesium hydroxide ($Mg(OH)_2$, C series), aluminum hydroxide ($Al(OH)_3$, D series), and potassium hydroxide (KOH, E series)) with sodium carbonate ($Na_2CO_3$) were evaluated. The mixtures were combined in different dosage at 1M, 2M, and 3M. The study results showed that the compressive strength of combined alkali-activated slag mortars tended to increase with increasing sodium carbonate. The strength of combined alkali-activated slag mortars was better than that of control cases (without sodium carbonate). The result from scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis confirmed that there were reaction products of calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) and alumina-silicate gels from combined alkali-activated slag specimens.
