  • A correction index of catchability (CIC) was derived using a 6 year research data set to examine the seasonal variation in catchability for the night time prawn fishery in Albatross Bay. CIC reflects the composite effect of the monthly variation in size selectivity, emergenceburying behaviour and population density variation of prawn populations. The values of CIC for four dominant species, Metapenaeus endeavouri, M. ensis, Penaeus semisulcatus and P. esculentus, were examined. The value of CIC for M. endeavouri varied substantially and was the highest in August. The values of CIC for M. ensis were high during November to March and the seasonality was weaker than that for M. endeavouri. The monthly variation in CIC for P. semisulcatus reflected the seasonal variation in population density, being high during November to February. These results suggest that the catch ability of P. esculentus is steady throughout the year but it varies greatly on a seasonal basis for M. endeavouri.

  • The emergence of viral diseases transmitted is nowadays a central problem in the world. Problem, which is becoming very critical in developing countries, where the health systems are not yet enough developed to face the bursting of such diseases. Emerging viral diseases constitute one of the major threats to human being that are arising in the modern world. Besides bio-chemical and medical researches, new orientations are developed to understand the environmental dimensions of such emergence. Questions concerning the inter-plays between the environmental and disease dynamics are building up new investigations, both in remote sensing and GIS, for the elaboration of levels of organization of space and environment in relation to incidences, to gain understandings in these issues. Environmental attributes attached to land cover types: area, spatial heterogeneity and physical state, are derived from remote sensing and applied to uncover related dimensions of the Dengue disease.

  • During the routine survey, the mortality of mulberry seedlings was noticed due to damping-off disease. The disease recognized by rotting of emerged seedlings near the soil line (just below the soil level) resulting in collapse of the seedlings. Two fungi were isolated from affected samples and identified as Alternaria alternata (Fr.) Keissler and Fusarium solani (Mart.) Sacc. Both the fungi were found to be responsible in causing pre and post emergence damping-off of seedlings in mulberry. For management of the disease, an experiment was conducted using fungicides. These fungicides were applied as seed treatment; soil drenching and foliar spray alone and in combination. Among the different treatments, integration of seed treatment and soil application of Dithane M-45 (Mancozeb 75% WP) + Bavistin (Carbendazim 50% WP) followed by foliar spray of these fungicides (after 35 days of sowing) resulted in better survivability of seedlings (93.3 %) on $90^th$ day and controlled the pre and post emergence damping off by 100 and 89.5%, respectively over the check.

  • In process of fabrication of a fixed partial denture, dies are trimmed to expose margins of the preparations. The need for the soft tissue cast is quite evident as the soft tissue emergence profile that surrounds the prepared tooth is destroyed in the process of fabrication. This article describes a modified technique to fabricate the soft tissue cast for the conventional fixed partial denture. The impression made with the polyvinylsiloxane was first poured to prepare the die cast. After retrieval of the cast, the same impression was poured second time with the resin based resilient material to cover the facial and proximal gingival areas. The remaining portion of the impression was poured with the gypsum material. This technique does not require additional clinical appointment, second impression procedure, technique sensitive manipulations with impression, or cumbersome laboratory procedures. The simplicity of this technique facilitates and justifies its routine use in fabrication of the fixed partial denture.

  • To establish the succeeding generations of wild silkworms, Bombyx mandarina Moore, massrearing was made in the laboratory. The rearing result was good under high humidity and moderately warm condition. Larval periods were 15 to 25 days and the most of larval period was around 17 days. The pupation rate and the pupal period of most of males and females were 40% and 13 to 25 days, respectively. There were two emergence peaks of males and females, and males emergence peak occurred two or three days faster than females.
