  • Scanning electron micrography and Transmission electron micrography studies were performed on the surfaces of stem(coleoptiles) of rice and barnyardgrass under various cropping patterns at 5 days after seeding or transplanting. Stem surfaces of rice under dry condition possessed rodlet-like epicuticular waxes, trichomes, stomata and cork cell layer in both broadcast and drilled rice while barnyardgrass had only thread-like epicuticular waxes, but trichomes, stomata and cork cell layers were not found. However, rice under water condition has no rodlet-like waxes, stomata and cork cells, and barnyardgrass was similar to that under dry condition. On the other hand, those on stems of 8-day and 25-day transplanted rice were well arranged and developed compared with those of direct seeded rice. Electron micrography showed significant difference in thickness of outer epidermal cell walls of rice and barnyardgrass under dry, water and transplanting condition. Thickness of outer epidermal cell was greater in transplanted rice, dry direct seeded rice, water-direct seeded rice and barnyardgrass in descending order.

  • The purpose of this study is to find the effects of triple helix model on the firm innovation, especially focused on the moderating effects of trust in Daegu Gyeongbuk. There are two ways of triple helix interactions in Korea. One is a traditional triple helix interaction in which entrepreneurial universities have a central role. As the other way, such 3rd-sector type organizations as technoparks have a important role in facilitating the triple helix interactions. We collected data from 231 firms located in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region. According to the findings, firstly, 3rd-sector type organizations such as technoparks have a positive(+) effect on the firm innovation. But a traditional triple helix interaction has not. Secondly, a 3rd-sector type support has much more positive(+) effects on the firm innovation than a traditional triple helix interaction. Thirdly, the trust has a positive(+) moderating effect on the firm innovation in the two-type of the triple helix interactions. In the conclusion, research implication, limitation of this study, and future directions are suggested.

  • The feasibility of graphoepitaxial growth of compound semiconductor has been studied. Two kinds of substrates were prepared; one is smooth substrate, the other one is a periodic structured substrate. ZnO film was deposited on both substrates by sputtering, and thermal treatment was performed to improve the crystal quality and investigate the effect of the periodic structure. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) and photoluminescence (PL) were used to characterize the samples. As a result, very similarchange, the improvement of crystallinity, has been observed from both samples, except the sample annealed at the highest temperature. It implies the periodic structure affects the crystallinity of the films, and the graphoepitaxy of compound semiconductors is possible by using appropriate surface structure.

  • The feasibility of graphoepitaxial growth of compound semiconductors has been studied. Two kinds of substrates were prepared; one is smooth substrate, the other one is a periodic structured substrate. ZnO film was formed on both substrates by thermal evaporation of elemental Zn and natural oxidation of the deposited Zn. Thermal treatment was performed to improve the crystal quality and to investigate the effect of the periodic structure. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) and photoluminescence (PL) were used to characterize the samples. As a result, the improvement of crystallinity as annealing temperature increase, has been observed from both samples. The samples, annealed at 800 $^{\circ}$C, show the best crystal quality in terms of PL linewidth. Also the sample grown on grating structure shows better crystal quality than the sample grown on flat substrate. It implies that the periodic structure affects the crystallinity of the films, and the graphoepitaxy of compound semiconductors is possible by using appropriate surface structure.

  • It is the Mobile Ad Hoc Networks that constituted with serveral mobile node that can communicate with other mobile nodes. Until now, there were no routing protocols considering such as Multimediadata, VOD (Video On Demand), which is required of lots of bandwidth in Mobile Ad Hoc Network, io we are in the need of QoS (Quality of Service)routing protocol to transmit the data packets faster and more accurate. Also, there are an unidirectional links due to asymmetric property of mobile terminals or current wireless environments on practical mobile ad hoc networks. However, at present, the existing mobile ad hoc routing protocols are implemented to support only bidirectional links. In this paper, we propose the Advanced Routing routing protocol in order to implement a new routing protocol, which is fit to mobile ad hoc networks containing unidirectional links and to support QoS service. For the performance evaluation, we use NS-2 simulator of U.C. Berkeley. We could get not only increased received data rate and decreased average route discovery time, but also network load decreases with compared Best effort service.

  • Word Sense Disambiguation(WSD) is one of the most difficult problem in Korean information processing. We propose a WSD model with the capability to filter semantic information using the specific characteristics in dictionary dictions, and nth added information, useful to sense determination, such as statistical, distance and case information. we propose a model, which can resolve the issues resulting from the scarcity of semantic information data based on the word hierarchy system (thesaurus) developed by Ulsan University's UOU Word Intelligent Network, a dictionary-based toxicological database. Among the WSD models elaborated by this study, the one using statistical information, distance and case information along with the thesaurus (hereinafter referred to as 'SDJ-X model') performed the best. In an experiment conducted on the sense-tagged corpus consisting of 1,500,000 eojeols, provided by the Sejong project, the SDJ-X model recorded improvements over the maximum frequency word sense determination (maximum frequency determination, MFC, accuracy baseline) of $18.87\%$ ($21.73\%$ for nouns and inter-eojeot distance weights by $10.49\%$ ($8.84\%$ for nouns, $11.51\%$ for verbs). Finally, the accuracy level of the SDJ-X model was higher than that recorded by the model using only statistical information, distance and case information, without the thesaurus by a margin of $6.12\%$ ($5.29\%$ for nouns, $6.64\%$ for verbs).

  • Thanks to spectacular advances in the techniques for identifying proteins separated by two-dimensional electrophoresis and in methods for large-scale analysis of proteome variations, proteomics is becoming an essential methodology in various fields of plant sciences. Plant proteomics would be most useful when combined with other functional genomics tools and approaches. A combination of microarray and proteomics analysis will indicate whether gene regulation is controlled at the level of transcription or translation and protein accumulation. In this review, we described the catalogues of the rice proteome which were constructed in our program, and functional characterization of some of these proteins was discussed. Mass-spectrometry is a most prevalent technique to identify rapidly a large of proteins in proteome analysis. However, the conventional Western blotting/sequencing technique us still used in many laboratories. As a first step to efficiently construct protein data-file in proteome analysis of major cereals, we have analyzed the N-terminal sequences of 100 rice embryo proteins and 70 wheat spike proteins separated by two-dimensional electrophoresis. Edman degradation revealed the N-terminal peptide sequences of only 31 rice proteins and 47 wheat proteins, suggesting that the rest of separated protein spots are N-terminally blocked. To efficiently determine the internal sequence of blocked proteins, we have developed a modified Cleveland peptide mapping method. Using this above method, the internal sequences of all blocked rice proteins (i. e., 69 proteins) were determined. Among these 100 rice proteins, thirty were proteins for which homologous sequence in the rice genome database could be identified. However, the rest of the proteins lacked homologous proteins. This appears to be consistent with the fact that about 30% of total rice cDNA have been deposited in the database. Also, the major proteins involved in the growth and development of rice can be identified using the proteome approach. Some of these proteins, including a calcium-binding protein that fumed out to be calreticulin, gibberellin-binding protein, which is ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase activate in rice, and leginsulin-binding protein in soybean have functions in the signal transduction pathway. Proteomics is well suited not only to determine interaction between pairs of proteins, but also to identify multisubunit complexes. Currently, a protein-protein interaction database for plant proteins (http://genome .c .kanazawa-u.ac.jp/Y2H)could be a very useful tool for the plant research community. Recently, we are separated proteins from grain filling and seed maturation in rice to perform ESI-Q-TOF/MS and MALDI-TOF/MS. This experiment shows a possibility to easily and rapidly identify a number of 2-DE separated proteins of rice by ESI-Q-TOF/MS and MALDI-TOF/MS. Therefore, the Information thus obtained from the plant proteome would be helpful in predicting the function of the unknown proteins and would be useful in the plant molecular breeding. Also, information from our study could provide a venue to plant breeder and molecular biologist to design their research strategies precisely.

  • The purpose of this study was to help improve the quality of education to keep up with fast-changing environments in educating sector. Relevant literature and data were reviewed, and the subjects in this study were dental hygiene juniors at seven two-year colleges in the Seoul metropolitan area and other regions, on whom a survey was conducted for about three months from August through October, 2004, to assess their satisfaction level with their major and educational environments. And it's concluded that in order to attract more new students and foster qualified students, dental hygiene practice labs should be improved on a large scale, and that there should be a great deal of investment in teaching facilities. The major findings of the study were as follows: 1. As for satisfaction with major choice, 57.5% of the students investigated, the largest percentage, expressed satisfaction with their major. 27.8%, the second largest group, found their choice not to be bad. 2. Regarding satisfaction with the state of practice labs, 41.9% were pleased with practice labs. This rate was quite lower than that of nursing students, as 64.2% of nursing students were pleased with their practice labs.7) 3. As to satisfaction with individual practice labs, oral prophylaxis labs were considered most satisfactory, as 53.9% were satisfied with them. Digital radiation labs appeared to be satisfactory the least, which made 77.0% dissatisfied. 4. Whether there were any connections between their working experience as a clinical worker and satisfaction level was investigated. In terms of their satisfaction with major choice and the state of practice labs, the students who had ever worked as a clinical worker were relatively pleased with the state of practice labs. As for satisfaction with each practice lab, those who had ever served as a clinical worker before being admitted into college expressed more satisfaction with radiation practice labs(p<0.05) and digital radiation labs(p<.05) than the others who hadn't. The gap between the two was statistically significant. 5. In regard to the causes of dissatisfaction with practice labs, 93.7 and 80.0% were respectively dissatisfied with digital radiation labs and basic dental hygiene labs because their colleges were devoid of those labs. 51.6%, the largest group, found oral prophylaxis labs unsatisfactory because of their frequent breakdown. In the event of most of the other practice labs, the greatest percentage were discontented due to a shortage of equipment.
