$CO_2$ 농도 및 온도 상승에 의한 졸참나무의 생태적 지위 변화 (Variation of Ecological Niche of Quercus serrata under Elevated $CO_2$ Concentration and Temperature)

  • 한반도의 낙엽성 참나무인 졸참나무(Quercus serrata)의 생태적 지위폭이 $CO_2$ 농도와 온도가 상승하였을 때 광, 수분 그리고 영양소 구배에서 어떻게 변화하는지 알아보고자 유리온실에서 대조구와 온난화처리구로 구분하여 재배한 후, 유식물의 20가지 형질을 측정하고 생태적 지위폭을 계산하였다. 그 결과, 생태적 지위폭은 광구배에서 대조구보다 온난화처리구가 넓어졌고, 수분과 영양소 구배에서는 대조구보다 온난화처리구가 좁아졌다. 이것은 지구온난화 진행 시 졸참나무는 광 환경에 대한 내성이 증가되고, 수분과 영양소 환경에 대한 내성이 감소될 것으로 예측할 수 있다. 주성분분석(PCA) 결과, 각 환경 구배에서 요인 1과 요인 2에 의해 대조구와 온난화처리구가 구분되었다. 생태학적 반응은 다양한 형질이 종합적으로 관여하며, 그 중에서 식물의 생산량을 나타내는 형질이 많은 부분 관여하는 것으로 판단된다.

Poncirin Inhibits Osteoclast Differentiation and Bone Loss through Down-Regulation of NFATc1 In Vitro and In Vivo

  • Activation of osteoclast and inactivation of osteoblast result in loss of bone mass with bone resorption, leading to the pathological progression of osteoporosis. The receptor activator of NF-κB ligand (RANKL) is a member of the TNF superfamily, and is a key mediator of osteoclast differentiation. A flavanone glycoside isolated from the fruit of Poncirus trifoliata, poncirin has anti-allergic, hypocholesterolemic, anti-inflammatory and anti-platelet activities. The present study investigates the effect of poncirin on osteoclast differentiation of RANKL-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. We observed reduced formation of RANKL-stimulated TRAP-positive multinucleated cells (a morphological feature of osteoclasts) after poncirin exposure. Real-time qPCR analysis showed suppression of the RANKL-mediated induction of key osteoclastogenic molecules such as NFATc1, TRAP, c-Fos, MMP9 and cathepsin K after poncirin treatment. Poncirin also inhibited the RANKL-mediated activation of NF-κB and, notably, JNK, without changes in ERK and p38 expression in RAW264.7 cells. Furthermore, we assessed the in vivo efficacy of poncirin in the lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced bone erosion model. Evaluating the micro-CT of femurs revealed that bone erosion in poncirin treated mice was markedly attenuated. Our results indicate that poncirin exerts anti-osteoclastic effects in vitro and in vivo by suppressing osteoclast differentiation. We believe that poncirin is a promising candidate for inflammatory bone loss therapeutics.

  • KSMBR process is dynamic state advanced wastewater treatment applied with Trisectional Aeration (TSA) mode combined with membrane. TSA was remodeled conventional intermittent aeration which was operated nonaeration-aeration. TSA operates nonaeration ($N_1$) - aeration (A) - nonaeration ($N_2$) in Trisectional Aeration Reactor (TAR). Organics of influent could be nearly consumed to denitrification without influence by remained DO in TAR and it could be operated about sludge return ratio of 1Q (influent base). The purpose of this study was to apply KSMBR to the full-scale plant and to evaluate efficiency of nitrogen and phosphorus removal and TSA operation. The result of this study, average CODcr/T-N and CODcr/T-P ratio were 7.8 and 59.6, respectively. BOD, TCODcr, SS, T-N, T-P, E-coli removal efficiency were 98.4, 95.2, 73.0, 69.6, 99.95 %, respectively. KSMBR obtained high removal efficiencies of C, N and P when it applied full-scale plant.

Variations of SST around Korea inferred from NOAA AVHRR data

  • The NOAA AVHRR remote sense SST data, collected by the National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI), are analyzed in order to understand the spatial and temporal distributions of SST in the seas adjacent to Korea. Our study is based on 10-day SST images during last 7 years (1991-1997). For a time series analysis of multiple 557 images, all of images must be aligned exactly at the same position by adjusting the scales and positions of each SST image. We devised an algorithm which yields automatic detections of cloud pixels from multiple SST images. The cloud detection algorithm is based on a physical constraint that SST anomalies in the ocean do not exceed certain limits (we used $\pm$ 3$^{\circ}C$ as a criterion of SST anomalies). The remote sense SST data are tuned by comparing remote sense data with observed SST at coastal stations. Seasonal variations of SST are studied by harmonic fit of SST normals at each pixel. The SST anomalies are studied by statistical method. We found that the SST anomalies are rather persistent with time scales between 1 and 2 months. Utilizing the persistency of SST anomalies, we devised an algorithm for a prediction of future SST Model fit of SST anomalies to the Markov process model yields that autoregression coefficients of SST anomalies during a time elapse of 10 days are between 0.5 and 0.7. We plan to improve our algorithms of automatic cloud pixel detection and prediction of future SST. Our algorithm is expected to be incorporated to the operational real time service of SST around Korea.

조선시대 사찰벽화 토벽체의 재질특성 연구 (Study on Material Characterization of Earthen Wall of Buddhist Mural Paintings in Joseon Dynasty)

  • 조선시대 5개 전각의 사찰벽화를 대상으로 벽체를 구성하는 토양성분에 대한 분석조사를 실시하였다. 입도분석 결과 층위에 따라 구성입자의 함량이 다르게 나타났으며, 마감층이 중벽층에 비해 중립사 이상크기 입자 분포가 다소 높은 경향을 보였다. 토양 구성광물 분석에서는 모래의 주성분인 석영(Q)의 결정상, 장석(F)의 결정상 그리고 점토 광물(C) 등 일반적인 토양과 유사한 광물 조성을 나타내어 벽체는 암석의 풍화산물로 생성된 풍화토를 사용한 것으로 보인다. 화학성분 분석 결과, 실리콘(Si), 알루미늄(Al), 철(Fe) 그리고 포타슘(K)등이 검출되었고, 토양 미세조직에서는 모래 및 점토크기의 토양입자들이 관찰되어 벽체를 구성하는 토양은 암석이 풍화되어 생성된 풍화토와 모래인 것으로 나타났다. 분석결과 벽체는 주로 황토가 사용되었고, 점토와 모래를 혼합하여 층위별 기능에 따라 제작한 것으로 확인되었다. 이번 연구를 통해 조선시대 사찰벽화의 벽체를 구성하는 재질의 특성을 파악하고, 제작기술에 관한 경향성을 제시할 수 있었다.

유채꽃 가공유형별 플라보노이드 조성 및 함량 변화 (Changes in Composition and Content of Flavonoids by Processing Type in Rapeseed (Brassica napus) Flowers)

  • BACKGROUND: Increased value added by rapeseed (Brassica napus) by-product and the development of a usable rapeseed functional tea. METHODS AND RESULTS: To develop a usable rapeseed functional tea, the total flavonoid content in the varieties Youngsan, Tammi, Tamra, Naehan, Hanra, Mokpo No. 68, and Mokpo No. 111 was investigated. Effect of three treatments, i.e., drying, leaching, and roasting, on flavonoid contents or flower was tested using multiple processing methods per treatment. Total flavonoid content decreased under the various drying methods, confirming that flavonoid content is heat-dependent. This finding was more pronounced for freezing and oven-drying (15.3 and 13.8 mg/g DW, respectively), with a 10% difference in the total flavonoid content between the two methods. Under leaching conditions, the flavonoid content decreased with increasing treatment time. Notably, roasting methods did not result in loss of flavonoid content. The total flavonoid content in the rapeseed varieties decreased in the following order: Youngsan, Tammi, Tamra, Naehan, Hanra, Mokpo No. 68, and Mokpo No. 111. CONCLUSION: The flavonoid content in rapeseed flower was higher in Youngsan than in the other varieties, under processing conditions such as freeze-drying, leaching at $90^{\circ}C$ for 5 min, and roasting.

레이저 유도 선해리 형광법과 래일레이 산란법에 의한 층류 비예혼합 수소/질소 화염의 온도 및 라디칼 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Characteristics of Temperature and Radicals in Laminar Non-premixed H2/N2 Flame Using LIPF and LRS)

  • Rayleigh scattering and laser induced predissociative fluorescence are used to obtain two-dimensional images of temperature and species concentration in a laminar non-premixed flame of a diluted hydrogen jet. Rayleigh scattering cross-sections are experimentally obtained at 248nm. Planar images of OH and $O_2$ with tunable KrF excimer laser which has a) $0.5cm^{-1}$ linewidth, b) 0.5nm tuning range, c) 150mJ pulse energy, and d) 20ns pulse width are obtained to determine spatial distributions of OH and $O_2$. The technique is based on planar laser induced predissociative fluorescence (PLIPF) in which collisional quenching is almost avoided because of the fast predissociation. Dispersed LIPF spectra of OH and $O_2$ are also measured in a flame in order to confirm the excitation of single vibronic state of OH and $O_2$. OH and $O_2$ are excited on the $P_2$(8) and $Q_1$(11) line of the $A^2{\Sigma}^{+}({\nu}^{'}=3)-X^{2}{\Pi}({\nu}^{''}=o)$ band and R(17) line of the Schumann-Runge band $B^{3}{\Sigma}_{u}{^-}(\nu^{'}=0)-X^{3}{\Sigma}_{g}{^-}({\nu}^{''}=6)$, respectively. Fluorescence spectra of OH and Hot $O_2$ are captured and two-dimensional images of the hydrogen flame field are successfully visualized.

A PHOTOMETRIC STUDY OF THE CONTACT BINARY XZ LEONIS

  • We present the results of new multi-color CCD photometry for the contact binary XZ Leo, together with reasonable explanations for the period and light variations. Six new times of minimum light have been determined. A period study with all available timings confirms Qian's (2001) finding that the O-C residuals have varied secularly according to $dP/dt\;=\;+8.20{\times}10^{-8}\;d\;yr^{-l}$. This trend could be interpreted as a conservative mass transfer from the less massive cool secondary to the more massive hot primary in the system with a mass flow rate of about $5.37{\times}10^{-8}\;M_{\odot}\;yr^{-l}$. By simultaneous analysis of our light curves and the previously published radial-velocity data, a consistent set of light and velocity parameters for XZ Leo is obtained. The small differences between the observed and theoretical light curves are modelled by a blue third light and by a hot spot near the neck of the primary component. Our period study does not support the tertiary light but the hot region which may be formed by gas streams from the cool secondary. The solution indicates that XZ Leo is a deep contact binary with the values of q=0.343, $i=78^{\circ}.8$, ${\Delta}(T_1-T_2)=126\;K$, and f=33.6 %, differing much from those of Niarchos et al. (1994). Absolute parameters of XZ Leo are determined as follows: $M_1=1.84\;M_{\odot},\;M_2=0.63\;M_{\odot},\;R_1=1.75\;R_{\odot},\;R_2=1.10\;R_{\odot},\;L_1=7.19\;L_{\odot},\;and\;L_2=2.66\;L_{\odot}$.

  • 현재의 인터넷망에서 채택하고 있는 최선노력 서비스만으로는 실시간 응용 서비스들이 요구하는 서비스 품질 (QoS: Quality of Service) 보장을 만족시키는 것이 어렵다. 따라서 세계적으로 Q0S를 제공하기 위한 방법에 대한 연구가 진행되고 있다. 그 중에서 본 논문에서는 차등 서비스(Diffserv: Differentiated Service)를 이용한 QoS 보장 기법에 대하여 기술하였다. 먼저 차등 서비스의 성능이 어떻게 트래픽 모델에 의하여 영향을 받는지 분석하였다. 이를 위하여, 랜덤, 버스티, 자기유사 입력 트래픽 모델링 방법에 대하여 연구를 수행하였다. 그리고 OPNET 시뮬레이터를 설계 및 구현하고 다양한 입력 파리미터에 대하여 모의실험과 성능평가를 수행하였다. 성능분석 결과 모든 환경에서 DiffServ 기능을 이용하여 EF(Expedited Forwarding) 클래스에 대하여 QoS 보장이 가능하고, EF와 BE(Best Effort) 클래스의 서비스 분리가 가능함을 확인할 수 있었다. WFQ(Weighted Fair Queueing)에서 EF와 BE 클래스 사이에 주어진 자원의 분배(즉, Weight factor)에 따른 성능 변화와 역동적 행위에 대하여도 분석하였다.

  • Sintering characteristics and dielectric properties of low temperature sinterable Glass/Ceramic dielectric materials were investigated. The dielectric materials which were developed for microwave frequency applications consist of SiO2-TiO2-Bi2O3-RO system(RO:BaO-CaO-SrO) crystallizable glass and Al2O3 as a ceramic filler. Sintering experiments showed that no more densification occurred above 80$0^{\circ}C$ and bulk density and shrinkage depended on Al2O3 content only. Results of dielectric measurements showed that $\varepsilon$r Q$\times$f and $\tau$f of the material containing 30wt% Al2O3 were 17.3, 600 and +23 ppm respectively. Those values for 45 and 60wt% Al2O3 samples were 11.6, 1400, +0.7 ppm and 7.2, 2000, -8.5 ppm, repectively. The results clearly showed that the Glas/Ceramic materials of present experiment decreased in $\varepsilon$r and increased in $\times$f value and changed from positive to negative value in $\tau$f value with the increasement of Al2O3 content.
