Characterization of Vanadium Oxide Supported on $TiO_2-ZrO_2$ Catalysts by $^{51}V$ Solid-State NMR Spectroscopy

  • Supported vanadium oxides are being used extensively as catalysts for a variety of reactions, including partial oxidations and ammoxidations. A series of vanadium oxide supported on TiO2-ZrO2 was obtained by impregnating ammonium metavanadate slowly into a mixed precipitateof Ti(OH)4-Zr(OH)4, followed by calcining in air at high temperatures. The prepared catalysts were characterized by 51V solid-state NMR. In the calcined catalysts 51V NMR studies indicated the peaks corresponding to distorted tetrahedral vanadia species at low V2O5 contents and octahedral vanadia species at high vanadia loadings. These results illustrate the suitability of 51V NMR as a unique quantitative spectroscopic tool in the structural analysis of vanadium(V) oxide catalytic materials.

  • Sintering characteristics and electrical properties of xPb(Mg$_{1}$8/Te$_{1}$8/Mn$_{1}$4/Nb$_{1}$2/) $O_{3}$-(1-x) Pb (Zr$_{1}$2/ $Ti_{1}$2/) $O_{3}$ (x=0.075, 0.1, 0.125) ceramics are investigated. A sintering temperature of ceramics could be reduced to 950.deg. C by a reaction between PbO and B site compound material. The physical properties of 0.1Pb(Mg, Te, Mn, Nb) $O_{3}$ - 0.9Pb(Zr, Ti) $O_{3}$ bulk ceramic with 3wt% glass frit(0.857PbO-0.143W $O_{3}$) were following : den = 7.95 g/cm$^{3}$, T$_{c}$=340.deg. C, .epsilon.$_{33}$= 754, k$_{31}$=0.3 and Q.=1780. The 3-layer piezoelectric transformer by using a tape casting method showed a good monolithic structure, and its voltage setup ratio was 2.5 times higher than that of a single device by using bulk ceramics.s.s.

  • Effect of PbO addition on sintering and piezoelectric properties at 0.45Pb(Ni1/3Nb2/3)O3-0.40PbTiO3-0.15PbZrO3 composition which is tetragonal phase was investigated. In this composition, Porosity and dielectric constant were increased with excess PbO addition, but Kp and d31 was not changed. These variation of physical properties could be interpreted as composition change of solid grains from tetragonal to MPB region due to amount of PbO-rich liquid changing.

  • The composites were fabricated, respectively, using 61vol.% SiC-39vol.% $TiB_2$ and using 61vol.% SiC-39vol.% $ZrB_2$ powders with the liquid forming additives of 12wt% $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ by hot pressing annealing at $1650^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours. Reactions between SiC and transition metal $TiB_2$, $ZrB_2$ were not observed in this microstructure. The result of phase analysis of composites by XRD revealed SiC(6H, 3C), $TiB_2$, $ZrB_2$ and $YAG(Al_5Y_3O_{12})$ crystal phase on the SiC-$TiB_2$, and SiC-$ZrB_2$ composites. The ${\beta}\;{\alpha}$-SiC phase transformation was occurred on the $SiC-TiB_2$, $SiC-ZrB_2$ composites. The relative density, the flexural strength and Young's modulus showed respectively value of 98.57%, 226.06Mpa and $86.37{\times}10^3Mpa$ in SiC-$ZrB_2$ composites.

  • Effects of $La_2O_3$, $MnO_2$ on the dielectric and piezoelectric properties of $0.02Pb(Y_{2/3}W_{1/3}O_3-0.98Pb(Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48})O_3$ system were investigated. The addition of La2O3 to the system enhanced electromechanical coupling factor (kp), piezoelectric constant (d33), but hardly changed mechanical quality factor (Qm). On the other hand, the addition of $MnO_2$ increased Qm significantly, but did not degrade kp and d33 so much. The piezoelectric properties of $0.02Pb(Y_{2/3}W_{1/3}O_3-0.98Pb(Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48})O_3$ containing 0.1wt% $La_2O_3$, 0.4wt% $MnO_2$ were very good and kp, d33, Qm were 55%, 350$\times$10-12C/N, 780, respectively. The size of the grains was proportional to the change of c/a (tetragonality) ratio caused by the addition of $La_2O_3$ and $MnO_2$, and dielectric, piezoelectric properties were sensitive to the amountof pyrochrole phase.

Effects of Impurity on Properties of PZT(I) (PZT 특성에 미치는 불순물의 영향(I))

  • A new perovskite type compound, (Pb1a-χKy□χ-y) (Zr0.33Ti0.67)O3-χ+y/2 was proposed and synthesized by "Wet-Dry Combination Technique". This defect ferroelectric material was characterized by partial substitutions of K+ for Pb+2 in Pb(Zr0.33Ti0.67)O3. This material was mono-phasic perovskite compound at 800℃ for 1hr., but ZrO2 was more or less isolated from the (Pb1a-χKy□χ-y) (Zr0.33Ti0.67)O3-χ+y/2. As a result, snitering temperature, sintered density, curie temperature, and dielectric constant of test pieces decreased and a-axis was nearly constant, while c-axis gradually decreased with the value x in the region of tetragonal phase of PZT. It was also recognized that the defect structure caused by adding K+ was found in both A-site cation and O-site anion vacancies in the defect PZT.

Synthesis and Crystal Chemistry of New Actinide Pyrochlores (새로운 파이로클로어의 합성 및 결정화학적 특징)

  • New pyrochlore-type phases($A_2$$B_2$$O_{7}$) were synthesized in the systems: CaO-C$eO_2$-T$iO_2$, CaO-$UO_2$(T$hO_2$)-Z$rO_2$, CaO-$UO_2$(T$hO_2$)-$Gd_2$$O_3$-T$iO_2$-Z$rO_2$, 및 CaO-T$hO_2$-S$nO_2$. The starting materials were pressed with the pressure of 200~400 MPa and sintered at 1500~ 155$0^{\circ}C$ for 4~8 hours in air and at 1300~ 135$0^{\circ}C$ for 5 ~50 hours under oxygen atmosphere. The products were characterized using XRD, SEM/EDS and TEM. In the bulk compositions of CaCe$Ti_2$$O_{7}$, CaTh$Zr_2$$O_{7}$,($Ca_{0.5}$ Gd$Th_{0.5}$)(ZrTi)$O_{7}$) ($Ca_{0.5}$Gd$Th_{0.5}$)(ZrTi)$O_{7}$, ($Ca_{0.5}$G$dU_{0.5}$)(ZrTi)$O_{7}$ and CaTh$Sn_2$$O_{7}$ , pyrochlore was the major phase, together with other oxide phase $of_2$$O_{7}$ fluorite structure. In the samples with target compositions CaU$Zr_2$$O_2$$Ca_{0.5}$ G$dU_{0.5}$)$Zr_2$T$iO_{7}$ pyrochlore was not identified, but a fluorite-structured phase was detected. The formation factor as the stable phase depended on crystal chemical characteristics of the actinide and lanthanide elements of the system concerned.

  • The dielectric and piezoelectic properties in which $(Zr_{0.52} Ti_{0.48})^{+4}$ ions of $Pb(Zr_{0.52} Ti_{0.48})O_3$ are partially substituted for $W^{+6}$ ions were studied. $ZrTiO_4$ was made by coprecipitation. The specimens of disc shape were sintered respectively at 1180$^{\circ}$to 130$0^{\circ}C$ at an intervals of 2$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. The optimum sintering temperature were found to be between 126$0^{\circ}C$ and 128$0^{\circ}C$. PZT solid solutions sintered had the tetragonal structure with c/a=1.025$\pm$0.005 and theoretical densities incre-ased from 8.02 to 8.17g/cm3 with increasing the amount of the partial substitution of $(Zr_{0.52} Ti_{0.48})^{+4}$ ion for $W^{+6}$ ion The grain size and curie temperature decreased with increasing the amount of $WO_3$ while the dielectric constant increased. When $(Zr_{0.52} Ti_{0.48})^{+4}$ ion was substituted for 1 mole% of $W{+6 ]$ion the planar coupling coefficient$(K_P)$ was as high as 0.58 But as the amount of $WO_3$ increased the mechanical quality factor(Qm) decreased considerably.

  • The effects of $MnO_2$ and $Cr_2O_3$ on the Piezoelectrictric properties of Pb(Mg1/2W1/2)0.3 Ti0.4 Zr0.3O3 Ceramics. Electromechanical properties in the system in connection with the sintering temperature and the effects of $MnO_2$ and $Cr_2O_3$ addition. The dielectric constant of the ceramics decreased with the additions of $MnO_2$ while the additions of $Cr_2O_3$ increased the value. The Planar coupling factor (Kp) of the ceramics with 0.2wt% $MnO_2$ and with 0.2wt% $Cr_2O_3$ gave the highest value of 0.52 and 0.513 as sintered at 106$0^{\circ}C$, 108$0^{\circ}C$, respectively. The value of mechanical Q-factor were in parallel with the fired density of the ceramics. The optical micrography of the sintered bodies showed that the additions of $MnO_2$ promoted the grain growth, while the additions of $Cr_2O_3$ retarded the grain growth.

  • The effect of NiO addition on the microstructure and microwave dielectric properties of (Zr$_{0.8}$Sn$_{0.2}$)TiO$_4$(ZST) was investigated. With the NiO addition, a dense ZST body of density higher than 95% has been achieved in the sintering temperature range of 1400 to 150$0^{\circ}C$. Energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS) analysis of sintered specimen shows the presence of second phase at grain boundaries, which is considered to be NiTiO$_3$. Dielectric constant of the specimen is found to increase linearly with density. Q-values and TC$_{f}$decrease with increasing NiO content. The variation of dielectric properties with NiO content is discussed in term of the second phase. The ZST ceramics with small amount of additive gave $\varepsilon$$_{r}$=38, Q=7000 at 7 GHz and TC$_{f}$=-0.5 ppm/$^{\circ}C$, comparable with the values obtained by previous investigation.stigation.
