  • Let P(z) be a polynomial of degree n and P(z) ≠ 0 in |z| < 1. Then for every real α and R > 1, Aziz [1] proved that $$\max\limits_{{\mid}z{\mid}=1}{\mid}P(Rz)-P(z){\mid}{\leq}{\frac{R^n-1}{2}}(M^2_{\alpha}+M^2_{{\alpha}+{\pi}})^{\frac{1}{2}}{\mid},$$ where $$M{\alpha}={\max\limits_{1{\leq}k{\leq}n}}{\mid}P(e^{i({\alpha}+2k{\pi})n}){\mid}.$$ In this paper, we establish some improvements and generalizations of the above inequality concerning the polynomials and their ordinary derivatives.

  • E. M. Silvia introduced the class $S^\lambda_\alpha$ of $\alpha$-spirallike functions f(z) satisfying the condition $$ (A) Re[(e^{i\lambda} - \alpha) \frac{zf'(z)}{f(z)} + \alpha \frac{(zf'(z))'}{f'(z)}] > 0, $$ where $\alpha \geq 0, $\mid$\lambda$\mid$ < \frac{\pi}{2}$ and $$\mid$z$\mid$ < 1$. We will generalize Silvia class of functions by formally replacing f(z) in the denominator of (A) by a spirallike function g(z). We denote the new class of functions by $Y(\alpha,\lambda)$. In this note we obtain some results for the class $Y(\alpha,\lambda)$ including integral representation formula, relations between our class $Y(\alpha,\lambda)$ and Ziegler class $Z_\lambda$, the radius of convexity problem, a few coefficient estimates and a covering theorem for the class $Y(\alpha,\lambda)$.

  • In this article, we define a module M to be Gz-extending if and only if for each z-closed submodule X of M there exists a direct summand D of M such that X ∩ D is essential in both X and D. We investigate structural properties of Gz-extending modules and locate the implications between the other extending properties. We deal with decomposition theory as well as ring and module extensions for Gz-extending modules. We obtain that if a ring is right Gz-extending, then so is its essential overring. Also it is shown that the Gz-extending property is inherited by its rational hull. Furthermore it is provided some applications including matrix rings over a right Gz-extending ring.

  • In order to investigate the effects of cross-sectional shapes on the sound characteristics of polyester fibers, 10 specimens were woven into a twill structure made of round, hollow, triangular, u-shape, cruciform, and composite cross-sectional (▲/▲ ,()/▲, Y/Y) fibers. Their rustling sounds were recorded, and their sound spectra were obtained from FFT analysis. Physical sound parameters (LPT, ΔL, Δf) and Zwicker's psychoacoustic parameters of the loudness(Z), sharpness(Z), roughness(Z), and fluctuation strength(Z) were calculated from the sound spectra. According to noncircular cross-section fibers, the hollow shaped fiber had the highest value of LPT, ΔL, loudness(Z), and fluctuation strength(Z). The triangular shaped fiber had a lower value of LPT, ΔL, loudness(Z), and roughness(Z) than those of the round shaped fiber. Among composite cross-section fibers, C1(▲/▲) and C3 (Y/Y) had higher values of LPT, ΔL, Δf and loudness(Z) but C2(()/▲) had lower values. Also the LPT, ΔL, sharpness(Z), and roughness(Z) values of different denier were similar to each other, but the Δf and loudness(Z) values increased as the denier increased.

  • At local, galaxy properties are well known to be clearly different in different environments. However, it is still an open question how this environment-dependent trend has been shaped. In this presentation, we will show the results of our investigation about the evolution of star-formation properties of galaxies over a wide redshift range, from z~2 to z~0.5, focusing its dependence on their stellar mass and environment. In the UKIDSS/UDS region, we estimated photometric redshifts and stellar population properties, such as stellar masses and star-formation rates, using the deep optical and near-infrared data available in this field. Then, we identified galaxy cluster candidates at z~0.5-2. Through the analysis and comparison of star-formation (SF) properties of galaxies in clusters and in field, we found interesting results regarding the evolution of SF properties of galaxies: (1) regardless of redshifts, stellar mass is a key parameter controlling quenching of star formation in galaxies; (2) At z<1, environmental effects become important at quenching star formation regardless of stellar mass of galaxies; and (3) However, the result of the environmental quenching is prominent only for low mass galaxies (M* < $10^{10}M_{\odot}$) since the star formation in most of high mass galaxies are already quenched at z > 1.

  • We present a theoretical analysis of Gaussian beam propagation in nonlinear Kerr media by using aberration-free approximation and Huygens-Fresnel diffraction integral and obtain a simple analytic formular for Z-scan characteristics. Z-scan experiments are carried out on amorphous $As_2S_3$ thin film and compared with the theory developed, showing good agreement. The sign and the value of ${\gamma}$ have been measured at 633 nm to be $+8.65{\times}10^{-6}\textrm{cm}^2/W$. We also measured the far-field intensity profiles, which confirm again self-focusing effect.

  • The four dimensional classification of globular dusters with the parameters, Z, Y, age and HB type is presented defining two new parameters. $(B-V)_{1/2}\;and\;S_{3/2}$ which are shown to be tightly correlated with Kinman's spectral types and the helium abundances obtained from the R-method, respectively. The Z- and Y- abundances are derived from $(B-V)_{1/2}\;and\;S_{3/2}$, respectively, and the latter parameters determine the age class of clusters with help of Dickens' HB type, which is a function of Z. Y and age. For the examined forty two globular clusters the computed range at Z and Y are $1.5{\times}10^{-4}{\leq}Z{\leq}4.5{\times}10^{-2}\;and\;0.23<Y{\leq}0.41$. The age difference between the oldest (HB type 1) and the youngest (HB type 7) clusters is roughly estimated to be $2-4{\times}10^9$ years. Using these four parameters the known anomalous C-M diagrams seem to be reasonably interpreted without taking into account some complicate parameters such as unusually overabundant heavy elements, mass loss and mass spread, etc. The four dimensional scheme strongly suggests the slow successive collapses of the proto-Galaxy rather than a single fast collapse, and by this slow collapse model the inversion of chemical abundance gradient in the Galaxy can be explained. It is also shown that the clump position along the RGB near the HB level removes down to the fainter magnitude as the Z(Y)- abundance increases (decreases).

  • A novel bacteriocin produced by Streptococcus parauberis Z49 strain was characterized and efficiently extracted from fermented cultures by use of aqueous two-phase systems. The nisin-like bacteriocin, which was active even after a heat treatment at $121^{\circ}C$ for 15 min and in the broad pH range from 2 to 12, showed inhibition of bacterial growth of Micrococcus luteus, Lactobacillus spp., Lactobacillus fermentum, Enterococcus faecium, Listereia monocytogenes, and Pseudomonas fluorescens. Optimal conditions of PEG 600/$Na_2SO_4$ aqueous two-phase systems for the simple and rapid extraction of a novel bacteriocin were determined to be PEG 600 15%, $Na_2SO_4$ 30%, and NaCl 8%, where the bacteriocin was concentrated in PEG layer.

  • We consider $Y=X{\lambda}Z,\;{\lambda}>0$, where X and Z are independent random variables, and Y is the length biased distribution or the equilibrium distribution of X. The purpose of this paper is to consider the distribution of X or Y when the distribution of Z is given and the distribution of Z when the distribution of X or Y is given, In particular, we obtain that the necessary and sufficient conditions for X to be $X^{2}({\upsilon})\;is\;Z{\sim}X^{2}(2)\;and\;for\;Z\;to\;be\;X^{2}(1)\;is\;X{\sim}IG({\mu},\;{\mu}^{2}/{\lambda})$, where $IG({\mu},\;{\mu}^{2}/{\lambda})$ is two-parameter inverse Gaussian distribution. Also we show that X is smaller than Y in the reverse Laplace transform ratio order if and only if $X_{e}$ is smaller than $Y_{e}$ in the Laplace transform ratio order. Finally, we can get the results that if X is smaller than Y in the Laplace transform ratio order, then $Y_{L}$ is smaller than $X_{L}$ in the Laplace transform order, and that if X is smaller than Y in the reverse Laplace transform ratio order, then $_{\mu}X_{L}$ is smaller than $_{\nu}Y_{L}$ in the Laplace transform order.

  • Low temperature sintering of Co$_2$Z type Ba ferrites with various oxide additives has been studied. Co$_2$Z phase was obtained by 2 step calcination and XRD peaks showed a good agreement with the peaks of the standard Co$_2$Z phase, except for some minor extra peaks. ZnO-B$_2$O$_3$ glass, ZnO-B$_2$O$_3$ and CuO, ZnO-B$_2$O$_3$ and Bi$_2$O$_3$, and ZnO-Bi$_2$O$_3$ glass were added to lower sintering temperatures. Specimens were sintered at the temperature range between 900 $^{\circ}C$ and 1000 $^{\circ}C$. In the single addition of ZnO-B$_2$O$_3$ glass, the specimen with 7.5 wt% showed the highest shrinkage. Specimens with complex addition of ZnO-B$_2$O$_3$ glass with CuO or Bi$_2$O$_3$ showed higher shrinkages and initial permeabilities than single addition of ZnO-B$_2$O$_3$ glass. Shrinkages and initial permeabilities of the specimens with ZnO-Bi$_2$O$_3$ glass were higher than those of ZnO-B$_2$O$_3$ glass addition.
