  • FED has deserved an intensive attentioD as a new flat panel display. The present investigationaims at undemtanding the photoluminescence and cathodoluminescent properties of hGaO$_3$: $Eu^{3+}$ phosphor bytaking into account the possibility that this phosphor could be applied for FED. In onler to investigate on.sucha detailed behavior; 8everM experimental skil18 Je conducted to the LaGaO$_3$:$Eu^{3+}$ phosphoL The excimtion srectrum artd emission spectmn were rnezsured in the UV range and then decay curve of $^5D_0$+$^7F_j$transitions\vas examined. The decay behavior of $^5D_0$ emission was anMyzed by a newly Iuoposed cross-relaxation mech-ani8In in asswiation with inteFwnter di1ffision (or migration). The cross-mlaxation from $^5D_0$ to CTB (Cha'geTransfer Band) wuld be a quite retsonable by considering the excitation spectrum. It could be also found thatthe quenching type was changed from ditfrsion controlled process to the direct quenching process -s inJeasing $Eu^{3+}$ oncntration.

  • 본 연구에서는 Digital radiography(DR) 의 X선 필름 제작방식인 직 간접방식의 장점을 가지는 하이브리드 X선 필름를 수행하였다. 형광체로는 Gd2O3:Eu를 제작하였고, 광도전체로는 낮은 누설전류의 특성을 보이는 PbO를 사용하여 Screen printing 방식으로 100um, 200unm, 300um의 두께를 가진 X선 필름을 제작하였다. 그 결과 200un의 두께를 가진 하이브리드 X선 검출기의 Signal 10 noise 의 값이 기존의 사용화 되고 있는 a-Se 기반의 X선 필름보다 200 이상의 SNR을 얻을 수 있었다. 아직까지 기초 단계에 있는 하이브리드 X선 필름의 제작 방식은 향후 더 많은 연구를 통해 기존의 방식을 대체 할 수 있는 신기술, 신개념의 제조공정이 될 것으로 사료된다.

  • Various colors of light emitting diodes(LED) and four-band white light sources are obtained using a violet LED and various phosphor films. $BaMg_2Al_{16}O_{27}:Eu\;(blue),\;SrGa_2S_4:Eu\;(green),\;and\;Eu(TTA)_3(PTA)$ (red) phosphors are dispersed in poly-vinyl-alcohol aqueous solutions, and phosphor films are prepared by coating the suspensions to PET film. The narrow band emission of $Eu(TTA)_3(PTA)$ phosphor has excellent red luminescent property for four-band white light excited by the violet LED.

  • A new analytical luminescence method for the Eu+3 and Tb+3 ions was studied using the luminescence enhancement by the treatment of the o-phenanthroline on the nylon membrane. Compared to the specific emission intensities of the ions in aqueous(or ethanol) solution, if the aqueous ion is spotted on the nylon membrane, the luminescence intensities were extremely enhanced. There was additional enhancement effect of the luminescence intensities of the ions on the nylon membrane, if the ion on the nylon membrane is treated with o-phenanthroline. Based on the luminescence enhancement, the detection limits were lowered by more than 7 order of magnitude compared to that of solution sample, and also lowered by about 1 order of magnitude compared to that of previous TLC method. The dynamic ranges and correlation coefficients of the calibration curves near the detection limit were 2∼3 order and ∼0.99, respectively. It was also shown that the luminescence intensity was in its maximum when the ion on the nylon is treated with ∼4 mole ratio of o-phenanthroline. The energy-transfer mechanism was explained for the theoretical background of the luminescence enhancement.

  • Eu doped YRO$_4$ (R=As, Nb, P, V) red phosphors were prepared by the combinatorial chemistry method. The quaternary material library of tetrahedron-type composition array was designed to investigate the luminescence of the host material under UV and VUV excitations (254, 147 nm). The photoluminescent characteristics of the samples were comparable to the commercially available red phosphors such as (Y, Gd)BO$_3$: $Eu^{3+}$ and Y$_2$O$_3$: In view of the luminescence yield, V rich region was found to be optimum under UV excitation. But the results under VUV excitation were different from those of UV excitation, the samples of the composition containing a large amount of P shows the highest luminescence. Especially, higher luminescence was obtained in $Y_{0.9}$(A$S_{0.06}$N$B_{0.06}P_{0.83}V_{0.06}$) O$_4$: $Eu_{0.1}$ phosphors than commercial (Y, Gd)BO$_3$red phosphors under 147 nm excitation.

  • A decrease in the retro-reflectivity of glass-bead-covered road paint because of a rainwater film significantly reduces the visibility of drivers at night, and has been considered as a critical cause of traffic accidents. For enhanced visibility, the microencapsulation of hydrophobically modified $SrAl_2O_4:Eu^{2+}$,$Dy^{3+}$ phosphorescent phosphor was carried out via suspension polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA). The effects of surface modification agent and radical initiator types, loading amount of phosphorescent phosphor, and microcapsule size on the phosphor content ($W_{TGA}$) in the luminous poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) microcapsules were investigated by thermogravimetric analyses (TGA). It was found that the $W_{TGA}$ value was ranged from 7 wt% to 81 wt%, which suggests suspension polymerization is suitable for the preparation of luminous microcapsules with a wide range of phosphor content. At a lower loading amount of phosphor, the $W_{TGA}$ value obviously increased as the microcapsule size decreased; however, the $W_{TGA}$ values with a higher loading amount of phosphor were less affected by the microcapsule size. The luminous microcapsules with the size range of $425{\sim}710{\mu}m$ were collected and tested as a luminous road lanes. It was found that luminance intensities of the microcapsule-coated plates remained higher than $300mcd/m^2$ for up to 100 s in darkness after 20 min of light emitting diode lamp irradiation. The results suggest that the luminous microcapsules can be a candidate for the replacement of glass beads for enhanced visibility of drivers.

  • [ $Y_{2}O_{2}S:Eu$ ], a red phosphor, coated with silica nanoparticles or nanocomposites composed of silica nanoparticles and polymeric materials such as PMMA and PVP was prepared via sol-gel process. Samples were prepared from four different methods coded P1, P2, P3, and P4. P1 includes a conventional sol-gel process and a dip-coating method while P2 has the same procedure with P1 except that nanocomposites containing both silica nanoparticles and polymer prepared by sol-gel process were used as coating materials. In P3 method, phosphors were dispersed in a solution containing silica precursor, i.e., TEOS and then polymerization was performed to coat onto the phosphors surface while P4 followed the same procedure with P3 except that a solution containing both TEOS and organic monomer were used in preparing coating materials. Among various coating methods examined in this study, uniform coating of phosphor could be achieved by using method P4, i.e., phosphor surface coating in a solution containing hydrophobic monomer and TEOS. Furthermore, $Y_{2}O_{2}S:Eu$ red phosphor coated with nanocomposite composed of PMMA matrix and silica nanoparticles exhibited enhanced PL intensity and long-term stability.

Origin and Evolution of Leucogranite of NE Yeongnam Massif from Samcheok Area, Korea (삼척지역 북동 영남 육괴에 분포하는 우백질 화강암의 기원 및 진화)

  • We study metamorphism of metasedimetary rocks and origin and evolution of leucogranite form Samcheok area, northeastern Yeongnam massif, South Korea. Metamorphic rocks in this area are composed of metasedimentary migmatite, biotite granitic gneiss and leucogranite. Metasedimentary rocks, which refer to major element feature of siliclastic sediment, are divided into two metamorphic zones based on mineral assemblages, garnet and sillimanite zones. According to petrogenetic grid of mineral assemblages, metamorhpic P-T conditions are $740{\sim}800^{\circ}C$ at $4.8{\sim}5.8\;kbar$ in the garnet zone and $640-760^{\circ}C$ at 2.5-4.5kbar in sillimanite zone. The leucogranite (Imwon leucogranite) is peraluminous granite which has high alumina index (A/CNK=1.31-1.93) and positive discriminant factor value (DF > 0). Thus, leucogranite is S-type granite generated from metasedimentary rocks. Major and trace element diagram ($R_1-R_2$ diagram and Rb vs. Y+Nb etc.) show collisional environment such as syn-collisional or volcanic arc granite. Because Rb/sr ratio (1.8-22.9) of leucogranites is higher than Sr/Ba ratio (0.21-0.79), leucogranite would be derived from muscovite dehydrate melting in metasedimentary rocks. Leucogranites have lower concentration of LREE and Eu and similar that of HREE relative to metasedimentary rocks. To examine difference of REEs between leucogranites and metasedimentary rocks, we perform modeling using volume percentage of a leucogranite and a metasedimenatry rock from study area and REE data of minerals from rhyolite (Nash and Crecraft, 1985) and melanosome of migmatite (Bea et al., 1994). Resultants of modeling indicate that LREE and HREE are controlled by monazites and garnet, respectively, although zircon is estimated HREE dominant in some leucogranite without garnet. Because there are many inclusions of accessary phases such as monazite and zircon in biotites from metasedimentary rocks. leucogranitic magma was mainly derived from muscovite-breakdown in metasedimenary rocks. Leucogranites can be subdivided into two types in compliance with Eu anomaly of chondrite nomalized REE pattern; the one of negative Eu anomaly is type I and the other is type II. Leucogranites have lower Eu concetnrations than that of metasedimenary rocks and similar that of both type. REE modeling suggest that this difference of Eu value is due to that of components of feldspars in both leucogranite and metasedimentary rock. The tendency of major ($K_2O$ and $Na_2O$) and face elements (Eu, Rb, Sr and Ba) of leucogranites also indicate that source magma of these two types was developed by anatexis experienced strong fractionation of alkali-feldspar. Conclusionally, leucogranites in this area are products of melts which was generated by muscovite-breakdown of metasedimenary rock in environment of continetal collision during high temperature/pressure metamorphism and then was fractionated and crystallized after extraction from source rock.

Separation of Actinides and Lanthanides by DEHPA Extractant(II) (DEHPA 추출제에 의한 악티늄족원소와 란탄족원소의 상호분리연구(II))

  • Several main nuclides($^{241}Am$, $^{152}Eu$ and $^{237}Np$) in radioactive waste solution were selected and examined to mutual separation with di-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid by solvent extraction technique. $^{237}Np$ was extracted more than 99.9% adding the $H_2O_2$ that was a good reductant for the oxidation state control of $^{237}Np$. $^{241}Am$, $^{152}Eu$ and $^{237}Np$ could be fairly well separated one another during the different sequence stripping stages, but about 7~9.6% of the other nuclides were still remained for the $^{241}Am$ stripping solution. This result shows that the product of $^{152}Eu$ and $^{237}Np$ was good, but $^{241}Am$ may be needed to further purification process. It was also discussed on the cause of the third phase formation phenomenon that was found in the solvent regeneration.

  • The red emission properties of $Bi^{3+}$ co-doped $Y_2O_3:Eu^{3+}$ prepared by the solid-state reaction was investigated, in order to verify its potential to act as the red emitting phosphor of white LEDs. The emission spectrum consisted of a weak band at 581, 587, 5931 and 599 nm, with maximum sharp peaks occurring at about 611 nm due to the $^5D_0{\rightarrow}^7F_2$ transition of $Eu^{3+}$, while the excitation spectrum exhibited a broad band between 290 and 430 mm with peaks occurring in the range of $310{\sim}390nm$. Also, SEM image of the sample containing 0.43 mol% $H_3BO_3$ and 2.08 mol% $BaCl_2{\cdot}2H_2O$ phosphor particles grew to achieve diameters of $700{\sim}800nm$.
