  • This study reports the origin of the electrochemical improvement of $LiFePO_4$ when synthesized by wet milling using acetone without conventional carbon coating. The wet milled $LiFePO_4$ delivers 149 $mAhg^{-1}$ at 0.1 C, which is comparable to carbon coated $LiFePO_4$ and approximately 74% higher than that of dry milled $LiFePO_4$, suggesting that the wet milling process can increase the capacity in addition to conventional carbon coating methods. UV spectroscopy, elemental microanalysis, and evolved gas analysis are used to find the root cause of the capacity improvement during the mechanochemical reaction in acetone. The analytical results show that the improvement is attributed to the conductive residual carbon on the surface of the wet milled $LiFePO_4$ particles, which is produced by the reaction of $FeC_2O_4{\cdot}2H_2O$ with acetone during wet milling through oxygen deficiency in the precursor.

  • This investigation aimed at selecting the optimum catalyst and reaction conditions used in Fenton oxidation for landfill leachate treatment and was carried out at ambient temperature using a lab-scale experiment. The investigation led to the following results: 1) The optimum pH and dose for each iron catalyst were as follows: $Fe^{2+}\;=\;1,200\;mg/L$, $H_2O_2\;=\;1,200\;mg/L$, initial pH=3.0; $Fe^{3+}\;=\;1,200\;mg/L$, $H_2O_2\;=\;1,500\;mg/L$, initial pH=4.5; $Fe^0\;=\;1,200\;mg/L$, $H_2O_2\;=\;900\;mg/L$, initial pH=4.0, respectively. 2) The progress of Fenton oxidation could be instrumentally monitored by measuring redox potential evolution during leachate oxidation, thus, indicating the possibility of an on-line process monitoring. 3) A simple acid-base titration of Fenton-treated leachate proved that a relevant fraction of by- products formed during the treatment was made of acidic compounds in the optimum reaction condition for each catalyst used, thus demonstrating that the higher the extent of Fenton oxidation the greater was the amount of acids formed. 4) With the aim of selecting the optimum catalyst among $Fe^0$, $Fe^{2+}$ and $Fe^{3+}$, removal efficiency of each parameter in the optimum reaction conditions was considered. Although $Fe^{3+}$ was higher than other catalysts($Fe^0$, $Fe^{2+}$) in removal efficiency, $Fe^0$ was a optimum catalyst with a view of cost effectiveness.

  • Recently CRT is getting flatted, As change of CRT trend from normal type to Flat type, the material of Shadow Mask was also changed from AK(Aluminum Killed) to Invar(Fe-Ni alloy) materials Until now we have used just AK(Aluminum Killed) for normal type TV(not flat type), but main raw material of shadow mask component was changed. . However recently Invar(Fe-Ni alloy) materials, which has advantage of Low Thermal Expansion and High Strength, has been developed as well as applying in mass production as CRT's trend has become more flat and fine pitch. As main raw material of shadow mask component was changed, conditions of process were changed. One of them, the importance of pre-etching process (assistant process for developing & etching) is improved because there are so many particles in the pre-etching bath because of Ni compounds. Since the solubility of Ni in pre-etching solvent is very low related to Fe's, so the compounds of Ni happen to make particles.(the solubility of Fe is twenty times Ni's) that particles happen to make process troubles and NG productions so to clear the particles we had to established high cost filtering system, but it is useless. As time goes by the quantity of particles (Ni compounds) was increased because of the capability of filtering system was not enough, the particles was produced continuous in bath, and it make quality problems. Hence we tried to develop the new pre-etching solution to remove the particles (Ni compounds) and to cost down the filtering system's running cost. But in improving the solution we discovered the new pre-etching solution made the PR developing better. In former solution there were three kinds of chemistry (COOH)2 , H2O2 , H2S04 .first the function of (COOH)2 is drilling the surface of Invar, during this mechanism Ni compounds occurred. Second the function of H202 is removing the PR fringe (half UV exposure zone on PR(PVA)), Third the function of H2S04 is the catalysis of (COOH)2 In those, (COOH)2 was the main reason to make the Ni compounds. So to improve the solutions we had to change (COOH)2 to the other material. the chemistry we improved was a complex chemistry based on H2S04 . after using this chemistry the particles problem was disappeared and there was another advantage cut down the PR fringe. The New solution made the function of H202 better so the PR developing improved. To be direct the catalyst of the new solution helped the H202. anyway First thing after change the solution the quality of shadow Mask for flat color TV was improved & the yield also improved. But the more important thing is how to control the new solution. So we accepted the new concept which was the degree of freshness. The degree of freshness is based on non-reacted solution which was 100% ( the degree of freshness) and calculated the melted Ni quantity as time goes by. So we made the gauging liner plot. In conclusion, many companies tried to make fine pitched Shadow Mask ,generally to make quality jump up it needed a lot of cost & persons .in this case the shift of core material made it possible.

  • Air pollution associated with the $NO_x$ emission from the ship engines is becoming one of the major environmental concerns these days. As the regulations on ship pollutants are strengthened, the wet absorption method, for controlling complex pollutants in a confined space, has the advantage of simultaneously removing various pollutants, but the low solubility of nitrogen monoxide is drawback. In this study, for improving existing denitrification scrubber system, NO oxidation process by hydroxyl radical produced from irradiating UV light on $H_2O_2$ is suggested and the $H_2O_2$ decomposition rates and hydroxyl radical quantum yields were measured to find the optimum condition of $H_2O_2$ photolysis reaction. As a result, the optimum quantum yield and photolysis rate of $H_2O_2$ were 0.8798, $0.6mol\;h^{-1}$ at 8 W, 2 M condition, and oxidation efficiency of 1000 ppm NO gas was 40%. In batch system, NO removal efficiency has a range of 65.0 ~ 67.3% according to input gas concentration of 100 ~ 1500 ppm. This results indicate that the scrubber system using hydrogen peroxide photolysis can be applied as air pollution prevention facility of ship engines.

  • In this study, nitrogen oxide (NOx) removal experiments were performed using a graphene based ceramic filter coated with a V2O5-WO3-TiO2 catalyst. Graphene oxide (GO) was prepared by Hummer's method using graphite, and the reduced graphene oxide was produced by reducing with hydrazine (N2H4). Vanadium (V), Tungsten (W), and Titanium (Ti) were coated by the sol-gel method, and then a metal oxide-supported filter was prepared through a calcination process at 350 ℃. A NOx removal efficiency test was performed for the catalytic ceramic filters with UV light in a humid condition. When graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) were present on the filter, the NOx removal efficiency was superior to that of the conventional ceramic filter. Most likely, this is due to an improvement in the adsorption properties of NOx molecules on graphene coated surfaces. As the concentration of graphene increased, higher NOx removal efficiency was confirmed.

  • ZnO films were fabricated on p-type Si(100) wafer ITO glass and quartz glass by the sol-gel process using zinc acetate dihydrate as starting material. A homogeneous and stable solution was prepared by dissolving the zinc acetate dihydrate in a solution of 2-methoxyethanol and monoethanolamine (MEA). ZnO films were deposited by spin-coating at 2800 rpm for 25 s and were dried on a hot plate at $250^{\circ}C$ for 10 min. Crystallization of the films was carried out at $400^{\circ}C$~$800^{\circ}C$ for 1 h in air. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), UV-vis transmittance spectroscopy, FTIR transmittance spectroscopy and Photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy measurements have been used to study the structural and optical properties of the films. ZnO films highly oriented along the (002)plane were obtained. In all cases the films were found to be transparent (above 70%) in visible range with a sharp absorption edge at wavelengths of about 380nm, which is very close to the intrinsic band-gap of ZnO(3.2 eV). The low temperature band-edge photoluminescence revealed a complicated multi-line structure in terms of bound exciton complexes and the phonon replicas.

  • Removal characteristics of volatile organic carbons(VOCs) by ozone oxidation and other processes in the raw water of the 1st Nakdong water treatment plant were investigated. Dichrolomethane, toluene and other 7 compounds were detected in the raw water. With regard to detected 4 compounds in finally treated water, it was found that VOCs could not be removed effectively by traditional water treatment process. Benzene, 1,2-dichlorobenzne were not detected in the raw water but they were detected in the process of treatment. The compound of highest detection frequency was dichloromethane. When the raw water was controlled at pH 7, temperature $20^{\circ}C$, 5 minutes as contact time, 10 minutes as reaction time, the removal rate of THMFP, $KMnO_4$ demand, TOC, $UV_{254nm}$ and $NH_3-N$ were 46.4%, 22%, 19.6%, 31% and 8%, respectively. From estimating the finally treated water qualities in 7 kinds of treatment processes, P-6 process(raw water-chlorination-coagulation-ozonation) was most effective for organics removal and THMs control. Removal efficiencies for $KMnO_4$ demand and TOC by the process which combined preozonation with coagulation was twice better than only preozonation. $NH_3-N$ removal rate was shown as 10% by P-3 process(raw water-coagulation-ozonation), but 83% of $NH_3-N$ was removed by P-4 process(raw water-coagulation-chlorination). It was found that the chlorination is more effective than the ozonation for the NH3-N removal as commonly known.

  • To date, carbon and nitrogen co-doped photocatalysts (CN-$TiO_2$) for environmental application focused mainly on the aqueous phase to investigate the decomposition of water pollutants. Accordingly, the present study explored the photocatalytic performance of CN-$TiO_2$ photocatalysts for the purification of indoor-level gas-phase aromatic species under different operational conditions. The characteristics of prepared photocatalysts were investigated using X-ray diffraction, scanning emission microscope, diffuse reflectance UV-VIS-NIR analysis, and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis. In most cases, the decomposition efficiency for the target compounds exhibited a decreasing trend as input concentration (IC) increased. Specifically, the average decomposition efficiencies for benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and xylene (BTEX) over a 3-h process decreased from 29% to close to zero, 80 to 5%, 95 to 19%, and 99 to 32%, respectively, as the IC increased from 0.1 to 2.0 ppm. The decomposition efficiencies obtained from the CN-$TiO_2$ photocatalytic system were higher than those of the $TiO_2$ system. As relative humidity (RH) increased from 20 to 95%, the decomposition efficiencies for BTEX decreased from 39 to 5%, 97 to 59%, 100 to 87%, and 100 to 92%, respectively. In addition, as the stream flow rates (SFRs) decreased from 3.0 to 1.0 L $min^{-1}$, the average efficiencies for BTEX increased from 0 to 58%, 63 to 100%, 69 to 100%, and 68 to 100%, respectively. Taken together, these findings suggest that three (IC, RH, and SFR) should be considered for better BTEX decomposition efficiencies when applying CN-$TiO_2$ photocatalytic technology to purification of indoor air BTEX.

  • The purpose of this study is to degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB, dye) and N, N-Dimethyl-4-nitrosoaniline (RNO, indicator of the electro-generation of OH radical) in solution using boron doped diamond (BDD) electrode. The effects of applied current (0.2~1.0 A), electrolyte type (NaCl, KCl, and $Na_2SO_4$) and electrolyte concentration (0.5~3.0 g/L), solution pH (3~11) and air flow rate (0~4 L/min) were evaluated. Experimental results showed that RhB and RNO removal tendencies appeared with the almost similar thing, except of current. Optimum current for RhB degradation was 0.6 A, however, RNO degradations was increased with increase of applied current. The RhB and RNO degradation of Cl type electrolyte were higher than that of the sulfate type. The RhB and RNO degradation were increased with increase of NaCl concentration and optimum NaCl dosage was 2.5 g/L. The RhB and RNO concentrations were not influenced by pH under pH 7. Optimum air flow rate for the oxidants generation and RhB and RNO degradation were 2 L/min. Initial removal rate of electrolysis process was expressed Langmuir - Hinshelwood equation, which is used to express the initial removal rate of UV/$TiO_$2 process.

  • Improper disposal of petroleum and spills from underground storage tanks have created large areas with highly toxic contamination of the soil and groundwater. Methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) is widely used as a fuel additive because of its advantageous properties of increasing the octane value and reducing carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon exhausts. However, MTBE is categorized as a possible human carcinogen. This research investigated the Modified Photo-Fenton system which is based on the Modified Fenton reaction and UV light irradiation. The Modified Fenton reaction is effective for MTBE degradation near a neutral pH, using the ferric ion complex composed of a ferric ion and environmentally friendly organic chelating agents. This research was intended to treat high concentrations of MTBE; thus, 1,000 mg/L MTBE was chosen. The objectives of this research are to find the optimal reaction conditions and to elucidate the kinetic and mechanism of MTBE degradation by the Modified Photo-Fenton reaction. Based on the results of experiments, citrate was chosen among eight chelating agents as the candidate for the Modified Photo-Fenton reaction because it has a relatively higher final pH and MTBE removal efficiency than the others, and it has a relatively low toxicity and is rapidly biodegradable. MTBE degradation was found to follow pseudo-first-order kinetics. Under the optimum conditions, [$Fe^{3+}$] : [Citrate] = 1 mM: 4 mM, 3% $H_2O_2$, 17.4 kWh/L UV dose, and initial pH 6.0, the 1000 ppm MTBE was degraded by 86.75% within 6 hours and 99.99% within 16 hours. The final pH value was 6.02. The degradation mechanism of MTBE by the Modified Photo-Fenton Reaction included two diverse pathways and tert-butyl formate (TBF) was identified to be the major degradation intermediate. Attributed to the high solubility, stability, and reactivity of the ferric-citrate complexes in the near neutral condition, this Modified Photo-Fenton reaction is a promising treatment process for high concentrations of MTBE under or near a neutral pH.
