  • Fine $TiO_2$ powders were synthesized from ammonium titanium sulphate which produced from $TiCI_4$, and$(NH_4)_2$ SO. solution. Rutile single crystal were grown by the verneuil method with anatase powders and investigated the property of rutile crystal. The Surface Characteristic Changes of Hydroxyapatite Coated Ti Disc When Immersed in NaCl Solution (NaCl 수용액에 담근 Hydroxyapatite 코팅된 타이타늄 시편의 표면 변화)

  • In previous studies, methods for enhancing cellular response on the Hydroxyapatite coated implant surface were described. In this study, the changes of surface characteristics such as surface roughness, contact angle, surface energy and surface morphology were observed when Hydroxyapatite coated Ti discs were immersed in NaCl solution for various time. Hydroxyapatite coated Ti discs were immersed in 0.9% NaCl solution for 7, 14 and 21 days at $37^{\circ}C$. The control group comprises dry identical discs not immersed in a solution. (n=3) All discs were dried in air completely and the surface roughness was measured using confocal laser scanning microscopy(CLSM). Static contact angle was recorded by video contact angle analyzer after dropping distilled water on the surface. The surface energy was calculated from contact angles of the three liquids. Surface was observed using a field emission-scanning electron microscope(FE-SEM). As a result, the surface roughness of immersed Hydroxyapatite coated Ti discs increased significantly and the contact angle decreased comparing with control group discs. The surface energy of immersed discs increased except for discs immersed for 14 days.

Photo Catalytic Activity of CNT-TiO2 Nano Composite in Degrading Anionic and Cationic Dyes

  • A CNT-$TiO_2$ nano composite was prepared from titanium chloride ($TiCl_4$) via sol-gel process using multi walled carbon nano tube (MWCNT) followed by calcination at $450^{\circ}C$. Spectral analysis revealed that the formed $TiO_2$ resided on the carbon in anatase form. The effect of adsorption was investigated using aqueous solution of methylene blue and procion blue dye. The photochemical reaction of CNT-$TiO_2$ composite in aqueous suspensions was studied under UV illumination in batch process. The reaction was investigated by monitoring the discoloration of the dyes employing UV-Visible spectro-photometeric technique as a function of irradiation time. The catalyst composites were found to be efficient for the photodegradation of the dye.

  • $TiO_2$ coated coal fly ash has been prepared in order to develop the low price $TiO_2$ photocatalyst and spread out its utilizing field. $TiO_2$ particles is coated on the surface of coal fly ash by precipitation method. In this method, $TiCl_4$ aqueous solution was used as a titanium stock solution and $NH_4HCO_3$ was used as a precipitant. The titanium hydroxide precipitated on the surface of coal fly ash in these neutralizing reaction process was oxidized by heat treatment in temperature ranges of $300~700^{\circ}C$. The crystal structure of the generated titanium dioxide showed anatase type. The crystal size of titanium dioxide increased with raising the temperature of heat treatment, but the removal ability of NO gas decreased. When the titanium dioxide was heated at temperature ranges of $300~ 400^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours, the crystal size of titanium dioxide appeared about 9nm, and the removal rate of NO gas showed 85~ 92%. The whiteness of $TiO_2$ coated coal fly ash increased with raising the coating rate of titanium dioxide and the temperature of heat treatment.

  • N-doped $TiO_2$nanotubes have been newly prepared by two stage sol-gel and strong-alkali hydrothermal process using $TiCl_4$ and hydrazine/ammonia aqueous solution as raw materials. These nanotubes revealed a well developed anatase crystalline phase and perfect nanotube morphology with the diameter around 10nm and the wall thickness below 3 nm. Also, they showed a superior visible light activity and yellowish color due to the light absorption redshifted by ~35 nm and ~25 nm compared to undoped $TiO_2$ nanotubes and anatase nanoparticles, respectively.

A Study of Annealing Heat-treatment for Ti(Grade 2) by Electrochemical Methods (전기화학적 방법을 이용한 Ti(Grade 2)재의 최적 어닐링 열처리에 대한 연구)

  • In this paper, the annealing heat treatments for the best corrosion resistant of Ti(Grade 2) were studied in a 3.5% NaCl solution by electrochemical methods. The annealing heat treatments were accomplished at 650, 700 and $750^{\circ}C$ with different time of 30min., 1hour and 2 hours in a vacuum condition. The obtained results are: 1) in the case of solution heat treated $930^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours in a vacuum and air, the corrosion potentials were -348.7 and -567. 1mV, and current densities 2.32 and $22.62\mu\textrm{A}$, respectively, 2) as increase both annealing heat treatment temperature 650, 700, $750^{\circ}C$ and time 30min., 1 hour, 2 hours, the corrosion potential were decreased, whereas corrosion current density increased, 3) in the case of cyclic polarization, the measured charges were increased as increasing solution heat treatment temperature and time, 4) on the bases of corrosion potential, current density and charge, the best annealing temperature and time were measured as $700^{\circ}C$ and 30min. for Ti(Grade 2) material.

Development of Highly Efficient Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells Using ZnO Post-Treated TiO2 Photoelectrodes (ZnO로 후처리된 TiO2 광전극을 이용한 고효율의 염료감응형 태양전지의 개발)

  • In this study, an efficient dye-sensitive solar cells (DSSC) was developed after post-treatment of ZnO on $TiO_2$ photoelectrode. The $TiO_2$ electrode with ZnO post treatment was prepared with Titanium isoporopoxide in Zinc Nitrate Hexahydrate aqueous solution by incineration for 30 min at $450^{\circ}C$. The ZnO-post treated $TiO_2$ electrode showed strong dispersion force between particles in relation to the control $TiO_2$, referring high specific surface area and dye-adsorption rate. Proper addition of ZnO enhanced electron mobility and reduced internal resistance and electron recombination. Light conversion efficiency of DSSCs containing the ZnO-posttreated $TiO_2$ electrode increased 35.4% when compared to the DSSCs using $TiO_2$ electrode. It is similar to the DSSCs with $TiCl_4$ post treatment $TiO_2$ electrode. Increasing of light conversion efficiency was due to high specific surface area and dispersion force, and low dye-adsorption rate and electron recombination. Taken together, ZnO may be used as posttreatment of photoelectrode and replaced $TiCl_4$ that has high toxicity and causticity.

Effects of Alloying Elements on the Pitting Behavior of Ti-Al Intermetallic Compounds (TiAl 금속간화헙물의 공식거동에 미치는 합금원소의 영향)

  • Effects of alloying elements on the pitting behavior of Ti-Al intermetalic compounds in the electrolytic soution containing Cl- were investigated through electrochemical tets and corrosion morphologies. Corrosion potential increased in the case of Cr addition to Ti-48%Al, whereas it decreased in the case of Si and B addition. The simultaneous addition of Cr and Si increased passive current density and decrosion corrosion potential. The passive current density of N addtion was higher than that of B addition in H2SO4 solution. With the addition of alloying elements, The pitting resistance decreased in order of TiAl>TiAlSi>TiAlN>TiAlB>TiAlCr and whin siumultaneous addition, it decreased in order of TiAlCrSi>TiAlCrBN>TiAlCrrN. The surface merohology after pitting test showed that the TiAl coataining Si had for fewer pits than that containing Cr and N simultaneously.

  • The photo-oxidation of an aqueous humic acid solution using $TiO_2$ sols. which is transparent in visible range, was studied. The $TiO_2$ sols were prepared by a process wherein hydrogen peroxide was added to a gel of $TiO(OH)_2$ originated from hydrolysis of $TiCl_4$, and the resulting titanium peroxo solution(TPS) was heated. The concentration of $TiO_2$ used for photo-oxidation was about 100ppm, determined by comparing the photoluminescence(PL) intensity measured as a function of $TiO_2$ concentration. $TiO_2$ sols aged at $100^{\circ}C$ for more than 12h were found to exhibit a maximum rate in photocatalytic decomposition of humic acid. and the efficiency was better than that of Degussa P25. In addition, the resulting aqueous humic acid after photocatalytic decomposition with sols had an excellent transmittance of visible light, while that treated with Degussa P25 was still turbid. caused by $TiO_2$ particles.

  • Perovskite $BaTiO_3$ thin films on stainless steel substrate were prepared by using electrochemical reduction method in solution of $TiCl_4\;and\;Ba(N0_3)_2$. According to current density and electrolysis time. the morphology and thickness of film were varied. Ra/'Ti atomic ratio in $BaTiO_3$ film was controlled by Ha/Ti atomic ratio in solution. Although the excess $TiO_2{\cdot}nH_2O$ film was coated in initial stage of electrolysis. UiilTi atomic ratio in film was nearly constant in later stage. $BaTiO_3$ film precursor was obtained under the condition of $1OmA/cm^2$ current density and Smin electrolysis time. $BaTiO_2$ thin films with perovskite phase were formed 11,. the heat treatment above $500^{\circ}$.
