Effects of deposition conditions on the properties of AlTiN films (증착 조건이 AlTiN 박막의 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • 증착 조건이 AlTiN 박막의 특성에 미치는 영향에 대하여 평가하였다. 한편, 공정변수의 하나로 빗각 증착을 적용하여 AlTiN 박막을 제조하고 그 특성을 평가하였다. Al-25at.%Ti 합금타겟을 음극 아크 소스에 장착하여 AlTiN 박막을 코팅하였다. 기판은 stainless steel(SUS304)과 초경(tungsten carbide; WC)을 사용하였다. 음극 아크 소스에 인가되는 전류가 낮을수록 AlTiN 박막 표면에 존재하는 거대입자의 밀도가 낮아졌으며, 공정 압력과 기판 전압이 높을수록 AlTiN 박막의 표면에 존재하는 거대입자의 밀도가 낮아지는 경향을 보였다. 코팅 공정 중 질소 유량을 변화했지만 AlTiN 박막의 특성에 변화는 없었다. AlTiN 박막 증착 시 빗각을 적용한 결과, $60^{\circ}$의 빗각을 적용한 다층 박막에서 약 33 GPa의 경도를 보였다. AlTiN 박막의 내산화성을 평가한 결과, $600^{\circ}C$이상에서 안정된 내산화성을 확인할 수 있었다.

The Effects of TiN Particles on the HAZ Microstructure and Toughness in High Nitrogen TiN Steel

  • In the coarse grain HAZ adjacent to the fusion line, most of the TiN particles in conventional Ti added steel are dissolved and austenite grain growth is easily occurred during welding process. To avoid this difficulty, thermal stability of TiN particle is improved by increasing the nitrogen content in steel. In this study, the effect of hlgh nitrogen TiN particle on preventing austenite grain growth in HAZ was investigated. Increased thermal stability of TiN particle is helpful for preventing the austenite grain growth by pinning effect. High nitrogen TiN particle in simulated HAZ were not dissolved even at high temperature such as 1400'E and prevented the austenite grain growth in simulated HAZ. Owing to small austenite grain size in HAZ the width of coarse grain HAZ in high nitrogen TiN steel was decreased to 1/10 of conventional TiN steel. Even high heat input welding, the microstructure of coarse grain HAZ consisted of fine polygonal ferrite and pearlite and toughness of coarse grain HAZ was significantly improved.

  • Microstructural development at the ZrO2/NiTi bonding interface and reaction products were examined and identified with SEM and AEM. Ti-oxide, Ti2Ni and Ni2Ti layer were observed whose thickness depends on bonding temperature typically. The development of Ti-oxide layer is related with oxygen ion in ZrO2 and liquid phase Ti2Ni. It is considered that compositional deviation from homogeneity and residual stress caused by thermal expansion mismatch are closely related with the formation of the Ti2Ni phase.

  • In thls study, the effects of the composltional change of cast Ni-Ti alloys on its characteristics including mechanical properties, phase transformation temperature, and ion releasing rate were investigated. brittle:behavior was shown in the stress-strain curve of the alloy containing low Ti content (Ni-44.0%Ti). By increasing the Ti content, the trend in stress-strain curves changed from that of superelasticity to that of shape memory effect(Ni-44.4%Ti, Ni-45.1%Ti, Ni-45, 5%Ti). Phase transformation temperature ($A_f, {\;}M_5$ point) increased with increasing the Ti content. lon releasing rate of four types of Mi-Ti alloys was very low compared to that of the dental commerical Ni-Cr alloy.

Synthesis of Ultrafine TiC-15%Co Powder by Thermochemical Method (열화학적 방법에 의한 초미립 TiC-15%Co 분말의 합성)

  • Ultrafine TiC-15%Co powders were synthesized by a thermochemical process, including spray drying, calcination, and carbothermal reaction. Ti-Co oxide powders were prepared by spray drying of aqueous solution of titanium chloride and $Ti(OH)_2$ slurry, both containing cobalt nitrate, fellowed by calcination. The oxide powders were mixed with carbon powder to reduce and carburize at 1100~125$0^{\circ}C$ under argon or hydrogen atmosphere. Ultrafine TiC particles were formed by carbothermal reaction at 1200~125$0^{\circ}C$, which is significantly lower than the formation temperature (~1$700^{\circ}C$) of TiC particles prepared by conventional method. The oxygen content of TiC-15%Co powder synthesized under hydrogen atmosphere was lower than that synthesized under argon, suggesting that hydrogen accelerates the reduction rate of Ti-Co oxides. The size of TiC-15%Co powder was evaluated by FE-SEM and TEM and Identified to be smaller than 300 nm.

  • 4성분계 Ti-Si-C-N 코팅막은 $TiCl_4$, $SiH_4$, $CH_4$, Ar, 그리고 $N_2$ 가스 혼합체를 이용하여 RF-PECVD 기법에 의해 Si 와 AISI 304 기판위에 합성하였다. Ti-C-(0.6)-N(0.4) 조성의 코팅막에 Si를 첨가함으로 Ti(C,N) 결정질은 줄어들고, Si3N4 및 SiC 비정질상이 나타났다. Ti-Si(9.2 at.%)-C-N의 조성에서 나노 크기의 nc-Ti(C,N) 결정질을 비정질 a-Si3N4/SiC가 둘러싸고 있는 형태의 나노 복합체를 나타내었다. 경도 24 Gpa의 Ti-C-N 코팅막은 Si를 첨가함으로 Ti-Si(9.2 at.%)-C-N 조성에서 46 Gpa의 최고 경도를 나타내었으며, 마찰계수의 경우에도 Ti-C-N 코팅막에 Si를 첨가함으로 크게 낮아졌다.

  • Ta and Hf added Ti-l5Sn-4Nb alloys without V and Al elements for biomaterial were melted by arc furnace in response to recent concerns about the long term safety of Ti-6Al-4V alloy. All specimens were homogenized at $1000^{\circ}C$ and solution treatment was performed at $812^{\circ}C$ and aging treatment at $500^{\circ}C$. The microstructure and mechanical properties were analysed by optical micrograph, hardness tester and instron. Ti-l5Sn-4Nb system alloys showed widmanstatten microstructure which is typical microstructure in $\alpha$$\beta$ type Ti alloys. The Ti-l5Sn-4Nb-2Hf and Ti-l5Sn-4Nb-2Ta alloys showed better hardness and tensile strength compared with Ti-6Al-4V. The result of XPS analysis, Ti-l5Sn-4Nb alloy in air atmosphere consisted of $TiO_2$, SnO and NbO.

Effect of Fe on the High Temperature Oxidation of TiAl Alloys (TiAl 합금의 고온 산화에 미치는 Fe의 영향)

  • To understand the effect of Fe on the oxidation behavior of TiAl alloys, TiAl-(2, 4, 6at% )Fe were oxidized at 800 and 90$0^{\circ}C$ in air. The oxidation resistance of TiAl-Fe alloys increased with increasing an iron content. The scales formed consisted of an outer $TiO_2$ layer, an intermediate $A1_2$$O_3$ layer, and an inner mixed ($TiO_2$+$A1_2$$O_3$) layer, being similar to other common TiAl alloys. But, the scales formed on TiAl-Fe alloys were generally thin compared to those formed on pure TiAl, and contained dissolved iron. Below the oxide scale, an oxygen affected zone was formed. This beneficial effects of Fe on increasing the oxidation resistance and scale adherence of TiAl alloys were attributed to the refinement of oxide grains, increased scale adherence and the enhanced alumina-forming tendency.

Characteristics of Ti Platinization for Fabrication Sn-modified Platinized Ti Electrode (Sn-modified Platinized Ti 전극 제조를 위한 Ti의 백금 도금 특성)

  • This work investigated a fabrication way of stable platinized Ti electrode and evaluated the electrochemical characteristics of the Sn-modified platinized Ti electrode in nitrate solution. A Pt electro-plating way to form some open special clearances within the Pt coating layer on etched Ti substrate was very important to remove effectively the residual contaminate due to plating solution out of the fabricated electrode surface and to maximize the actual electrode surface area contacting solution. Both boiling and electro-cleaning processes of the fabricated electrode was essential to obtain a stable platinized-Pt electrode with reproducible and stable surface property which was necessary for the correct evaluation of Sn coverage on the electrode. The electro-cleaning caused a morphology change of the platinized Ti electrode surface with some downy hair-like polyps formed during the deposition disappearing, which made the electrode stable. The Sn-modified platinized Ti electrode in this work showed the best electro-activity for nitrate reduction, when it was fabricated through the Pt electro-plating of about 30 minutes.
