Synthesis and Sinteirng of $MoSi_2$ by SHS Process (SHS법에 의한 고온발열체용 $MoSi_2$의 합성 및 소결)

  • Molybdenum disilicide (MoSi2) was synthesized from Mo, MoO3, Si and Al powders by self-propagating high temperature synthesis (SHS). The effect of processing parameters such as Mo/MoO3 molar ratio, Ar gas pressure in the reactor and pressing pressure of compacts in synthesis of MoSi2 were investigated. h-MoSi2 was transformed into t-MoSi2 with increasing the Mo/MoO3 mole ratio, and only t-MoSi2 phase was identified above 3.5 : 1 (molar ratio). The synthesized phases did not change with the variation of Ar gas pressure and pressing pressure of compacts. It was found that the combustion temperature was above 2,50$0^{\circ}C$. The products were separated into MoSi2 (s) and $\alpha$-Al2O3 by the difference of their specific grativities. Bending strength, hardness and density of sintered specimen exhibited 82 MPa, 5.368 GPa and 5.43 g/㎤, respectively.

  • The fracture toughness and hardness of 62 %$SiO_2-19%ZrO_2-9%Na_2O-10%B_2O_3$(wt%) glass ceramics system were investigated. As a result of DTA study to find crystallization temperature, an exothermic peak near $820^{\circ}C$ was observed. The optimum nucleation temperature and the optimum crystal growth temperature were determined by XRD and SEM analysis, and were approximately $650^{\circ}C$, $840^{\circ}C$ respectively. The fracture toughness of this zirconia glass ceramics was determined by Vickers Indentation Method. The hardness value was not changed with increasing of the heat treatment temperature, but fracture toughness value was increased up to $1.8 MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$ at $840^{\circ}C$, with increasing of heat treatment temperature.

  • Ferroelectric B $i_4$$_{-x}$N $d_{x}$ $Ti_3$ $O_{12}$ (BNdT) thin films with the composition(x=0.75) were prepared on Pt/Ti/ $SiO_2$(100) substrate by metal-organic deposition. The films were annealed by various temperatures from 550 to $650^{\circ}C$ and then the electrical and structural characteristics of BNdT films were investigated for the application of FRAM. Electrical properties such as dielectric constant, 2Pr and capacitance were quite dependent on the thermal heat treatment. The measured 2Pr value on the BNdT capacitor annealed at $650^{\circ}C$ was 56$\mu$C/$\textrm{cm}^2$ at an applied voltage of 5V. In fatigue characteristics value remained constant up to 8$\times$10$^{10}$ read/write switching cycles at a frequency of 1Mhz regardless of annealing temperatures.

Improvement of Reliance on Zinc oxide (ZnO Varistor의 신뢰성 향상)

  • ZnO varistor ceramics which were fabricated with variation of added of $0.5{\sim}1.0mol%\;Co_3O_4$ sintered at $1150^{\circ}C$. In the specimen added $0.7mol%\;Co_3O_4$, sintered density was $6.03g/cm^3$ and electrical peoperties were superior to any other components. The nonlinear coefficient a was 83, and clamping voltage ratio was 1.35. But, endurence surge current in the specimen added $0.5mol%\;Co_3O_4$ was $7000A/cm^2$, and deviation of varistor voltage was ${\Delta}-3.23%$. As P.C.T and T.C.T environment test were succeed in all specimens, and deviation of varistor voltage in the specimen added $0.6mol%\;Co_3O_4$ was ${\Delta}-0.81%$. All specimens showed a good leakage current property in the High Temperature Continuous Load Test for 1000hr, at $85^{\circ}C$, and variation rate of the varistor voltage was ${\Delta}-2%$.

Quercetin Prevents Hydrogen Peroxide-induced Necrotic and Apoptotic Cell Death in Human Colonic Epithelial Cells

  • Quercetin is one of the most distributed flavonoids in the plant kingdom and occurs naturally in a wide range of fruits and vegetables. This study was undertaken to determine whether quercetin exerts beneficial effect against necrotic and apoptotic cell death induced by hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O2$) in intestinal cells using the human-derived cultured T84 colonic epithelial cell line. Necrotic cell death was induced by exposing cells to 0.5 mM $H_2O_2$ for 2 h and apoptosis was induced by incubating cells in normal culture medium for 18 h following exposure of cells to 0.5 mM $H_2O2$ for 2 h. Cell viability was evaluated by the trypan blue exclusion assay and apoptosis was assessed by Hoechst 33258 staining and flow cytometry. $H_2O_2$ induced necrotic cell death in a time and dose-dependent fashion. Both necrotic and apoptotic cell deaths were not prevented by the antioxidants N,N'-diphenyl-p-phenylenediamine(DPPD) and Trolox, whereas both cell deaths induced by the organic hydroperoxide t-butylhydroperoxide (tBHP) were prevented by DPPD, suggesting that $H_2O_2$ induces cell death through a lipid peroxidation-independent mechanism. $H_2O2$-induced necrotic death was prevented by deferoxamine and 3-aminobenzamide, while the apoptotic cell death was not affected by these agents. Quercetin prevented both necrotic and apoptotic cell deaths induced by $H_2O_2$ in a dose-dependent manner. $H_2O_2$ caused activation of poly (ADP-ribose) polmerase (PARP), which was inhibited by deferoxamine, 3-aminobenzamide, and quercetin, but not DPPD. These results indicate that quercetin inhibits both necroticand apoptotic deaths of T84 cells. The anti-necrotic effect of quercetin may be attributed to its iron chelator activity rather than a direct $H_2O_2$ scavenging capacity and antioxidant. The present study suggests that quercetin may play a therapeutic role in the treatment of human gastrointestinal diseases mediated by oxidants.

Structural and Electrical properties of MnO$_2$ added PbTiO$_3$system ceramics for Hydrophone (MnO$_2$가 첨가된 하이드로폰용 PbTiO$_3$계 세라믹스의 구조적 전기적 특성)

  • In this study, to improve sintering condition, anisotropic Property(k$\_$t//k$\_$p/) of electromechanical coupling coefficients, and hydrostatic piezoelerlric constants d$\_$h/ and g$\_$h/, MnO$_2$impurity was added to the (Pb$\_$0.76/Ca$\_$0.24)[(Co$\_$$\frac{1}{2}$W$\_$$\frac{1}{2}$/)$\_$0.04/Ti$\_$0.96/]O$_3$ System ceramics for hydrophone. And the structural, electrical properties of them were investigated. As a results. tetragonality was decreased with MnO$_2$ additives and density was the highest value of 7.06(g/㎤) at H2-3 specimen. Electromechanical coupling coefficients of H2-3 specimen were k$\_$t/=49 and k$\_$p/ 0, which exibited the hightest hydrostatic piezoelectric constants of d$\_$h/=64.52[10$\^$-1/C/N] and g$\_$h/=35.92[10$\^$-3/ Vm/N].

Effects of Functional Ingredients Supplementation as a Bulking Agent in Composting of Swine Manure (돈분의 퇴비화에 있어 악취 제거 기능성 물질의 첨가 효과)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of functional ingredients with supplementation as a bulking agent in composting of swine manure. Treatments were T1 & T5 ; Swine mature+Vermiculite, T2 & T6 ; Swine manure+Perlite, T3 & T7 ; Swine manure+Vermiculite+Perlite, T4 & T8 ; Swine manure+Bark. T1, T2, T3 and T4 were supplemented with functional ingredients on d 0 of composting, T5, T6, T7 and T8 were supplemented with functional ingredients on d 3 of composting. Functional ingredients were Fermkito and Yucca. During the composting period, changes of temperature were showed traditionally composting trend. Volatile fatty acids were decreased regardless of treatments in functional ingredients supplementation. Organic matter, T-N and C/N ratio were showed higher bark treatments than other treatments. pH and EC were net differences among the treatments. P$_2$O$_{5}$ and $K_2$O were showed level of 1-3%. In heavy metal, Cr were showed higher in vermiculite treatment than other treatments. In conclusion, vermiculite and perlite treatments were greater composting effects than bark.

High-temperature Oxidation Kinetics and Scales Formed on Fe-2.3%Cr-1.6%W Alloy (Fe-2.3%Cr-1.6%W합금의 고온산화 속도와 스케일 분석)

  • The T23 steel, whose composition was Fe-2.3%Cr-1.6%W, was arc-melted, and oxidized between $600^{\circ}C$ and $900^{\circ}C$ in air for up to 7 months. The amount of precipitates in the arc-melted microstructure was as large as 11.4 vol.%. The precipitates increased the oxidation rate of the arc-melted T23 steel. Owing to the low amount of Cr in the T23 steel, breakaway oxidation occurred after a few hours during oxidation above $700^{\circ}C$ in both arc-melted and as-received T23 steels. The scales that formed on arc-melted and as-received T23 steels were similar to each other. They consisted primarily of the outer $Fe_2O_3$ layer and the inner ($Fe_2O_3$, $FeCr_2O_4$)-mixed layer. The precipitates increased the microhardness and the oxidation rates.

Crystallization of Borosilicate Glass with the Addition of $ZrO_2$ (지르코니아 첨가된 보로실리케이트 유리의 결정화)

  • Borosilicate glass was prepared in the composition of 81% $SiO_2$, 4% $Na_2O$, 2% $Al_2O_3$, 13% $B_2O_3$. The albite phase($NaAlSi_3O_8$) increased with the $ZrO_2$(0~10wt.%) addition. For measurement of glass transition temperature($T_g$), crystallization temperature($T_{c,max}$) measured by differential thermal analysis. The $T_g$ and $T_{c,max}$ were $510{\sim}530^{\circ}C$ $650{\sim}670^{\circ}C$, respectively. The crystallized glass was heated at various conditions(temperature, time). After nucleation at $550^{\circ}C$ for 2hours prior to crystal growth at $650^{\circ}C$ for 4hours, the resulting Vickers hardness, fracture toughness and bending strength were about $736H_v$, $1.0779MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$, and 493MPa, which were 17%, 45% and 149% higher than parent borosilicate glass, respectively. Crystal size and transmittance of crystallized borosilicate glass were analyzed by FE-SEM, EDX and UV-VIS-NIR spectrophotometer. Transmittance of crystallized borosilicate glass was decreased with increasing $ZrO_2$(wt%) at visible-range. The results prove that light-weight bulletproof can be fabricated by the crystallization of borosilicate glass.

Establishment of Preparation Conditions for High-Tc Superconducting Y-Ba-Cu-O Thin Film by Chemical Vapor Deposition (화학증착법에 의한 고온 초전도 Y-Ba-Cu-O 박막의 제조 조건 확립에 관한 연구)

  • The superconducting thin films have shown a growing possibility for practical application in microelectronic fields in recent years. In this study, the high Tc superconducting Y-Ba-Cu-O thin films were prepared on various substrates by chemical vapor deposition method using organic metal chelates of $Y(thd)_3$, $Ba(thd)_2$, and $Cu(thd)_2$ as source materials. The deposition reactions were carried out on single crystalline MgO(100), YSZ(100), $SrTiO_3(100)$, and polycrystalline $SrTiO_3$ substrates. Deposition thickness of thin films was linearly increased with the increase of deposition time. It turned out that the Y-Ba-Cu-O thin films on MgO(100), YSZ(100), and $SrTiO_3(100)$ single crystal substrates showed superconductivities above liquid nitrogen temperature($T_{c,onset}=87{\sim}89K$, $T_{c,zero}=85{\sim}86K$), but the one on polycrystalline $SrTiO_3$ substrate did not.
