Synthesis of Sr-Ferrite by a Molten Salt Flux and Its Magnetic Properties (염을 이용한 Sr 페라이트의 분말합성과 그의 자성특성)

  • In this study we prepared the Sr-ferrite powders and magnet by a molten salt method using the (NaCl+KCl) salt mixture. Starting materials of $Fe_{2}$$O_{3}$ and Sr$Co_{3}$ were mixed as the molar ratio of 5.70:1, and 0.08 mol$ \% $ $Al_{2}$$O_{3}$, 0.10 mo1$ \% $ Si$O_{2}$ and 0.12 mo1$ \% $ CaO were added as additives. Sr-ferrite powders synthesized at the reaction temperatures of 800$\∼$1200$ ^{\circ}C $ showed the typical M-type hexagonal ferrite phase, and hexagonal plate-like morphology with uniform distribution of 1$\∼$3 $\mu$m particle size. The bulk density of the sintered Sr-ferrite magnet prepared with powders by the molten salt method showed the maximum density of 4.82 g/$cm^{3}$ at the sintering temperature of 1200$^{\circ}C $. The maxima of remanent flux density (Br, 45 emu/g) and coercive force (iHc, 3.75 kOe) occurred at the sintering temperatures of 1150$ ^{\circ}C$ and 1200$^{\circ}C $.

  • The optimal fabrication conditions for $Gd_{0.1}Ce_{0.9}O_{2-{\delta}}$(GDC) buffer layer and $La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}Co_{0.2}Fe_{0.8}O_{3-{\delta}}$ (LSCF) cathode on 1mol% $CeO_2-10mol%\;Sc_2O_3$ stabilized $ZrO_2$ (CeScSZ) electrolyte were investigated for application of IT-SOFCs. GDC buffer layer was used in order to prevent undesired chemical reactions between LSCF and CeScSZ. These experiments were carried out with $5{\times}5cm^2$ anode supported unit cells to investigate the tendencies of electrochemical performance, Microstructure development and interface reaction between LSCF/GDC/CeScSZ along with the variations of GDC buffer layer thickness, sintering temperatures of GDC and LSCF were checked, respectively. Electrochemical performance was analyzed by DC current-voltage measurement and AC impedance spectroscopy. Microstructure and interface reaction were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). Although the interfacial reaction between these materials could not be perfectly inhibited, We found that the cell, in which $6{\mu}m$ GDC interlayer sintered at $1200^{\circ}C$ and LSCF sintered at $1000^{\circ}C$ were applied, showed good interfacial adhesions and effective suppression of Sr, thereby resulting in fairly good performance with power density of $0.71W/cm^2$ at $800^{\circ}C$ and 0.7V.

  • We synthesized $La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}Co_{0.2}Fe_{0.8}O_{3-\delta}$ powders by coprecipitation, citration and solid-state reactions. The oxygen permeation membranes were fabricated by cold isostatic pressing of the synthesized powders, followed by sintering in air. All powders and membranes consist of perovskite phases. The coprecipitated powders showed the highest surface area ($7.5m^2/g$) but strontium deficiency was found during washing and filtering in the process. The membrane with lower relative density was fabricated by citration method. On the other hand, solid state reacted powders had high relative density (95%), and mechanical properties showed superior properties. Especially, the composition of the solid-state reacted powders was relatively well-controlled.

Geochemical Study of Some Mesozoic Granitic Rocks in South Korea (남한의 일부 중생대 화강암류의 지구화학적 연구)

  • REE, major and trace elements analyses of the Jurassic Daebo granite and Cretaceous Bulguksa granite were carried out to interpet their petrogenesis and relationships between petrogenesis and tectonics. Analytical results are summarized as follows. (1) $SiO_2$ content of the Bulguksa granite (aver. 74.6%) are significantly higher than those of the Daebo granite (aver. 68.1%). Major elements of $TiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$, $P_2O_5$, CaO, MgO, Total FeO, and trace elements of Co, V and Sr are negatively correlated with $SiO_2$. Incompatible elements such as Ba, Sr, Y, Zr and HREE are contained differently in the Bulguksa granites distributed in between Okchon folded belt and Kyongsang sedimentary basin. (2) Trace element abundances show a good discrimination between two goups of granitic rocks. Ba, Sr and V are enriched in Daebo granites, while Zn and Cr are depleted in them. (3) Jurassic granites have quite different Eu anomalies and REE patterns from those of Cretaceous granites: Large negative Eu anomaly in the former and mild or absent Eu anomaly in the latter. The large Eu negative of Cretaceous granitic rocks are interpreted as a differentiated product of fractional crystallization of granitic magma from the upper mantle. Meanwhile, the Daebo plutonic rocks was resulted from the partial melting of subcrustal material or crustal contamination during ascending granitic magma from the mantle. Senario of igneous activities of Mesozoic age in South Korea was proposed based on Kula-Pacific ridge subduction model.

Studies on Chemical Properties and Thermal Analysis of (Sr,M)FeO3-y System (M=Ca) ((Sr,M)FeO3-y계(M=Ca)의 화학적 성질과 열분석에 대한 연구)

  • The solid solutions of the $Sr_{1-X}M_XFeO_{3-y}$ (x=0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, M=Ca) system having perovskite structures were prepared in air by heat treatment at 1473 K for 18hr. X-ray diffraction assigns cubic system for all the samples and shows that the lattice volume of each system decreases with increasing x value until x=0.3, but increases abruptly from x=0.4. The mole fractions of $Fe^{4+}$ ion($\tau$ value), the amounts of oxygen vacancy (y value) and finally nonstoichiometric chemical formulas for each composition were determined from Mohr salt analysis. TG/DTA thermal analysis (temperature range: 300~1173K) exhibits that 3-y values of the samples having x=0.1 and 0.2, decrease with temperature and increase almost reversibly with decreasing temperature. The samples of $x{\geq}0.3$, however, didn't show the reversible weight change and the 3-y values of them were nearly 2.5 in cooling process. Conductivities of each sample were varied within the semiconductivity range at relatively low temperature. And the conductivity at constant temperature decreases steadily with x value. The conduction mechanism of this ferrite system may be proposed as a hopping model of conducting electrons between the mixed valence states. At high temperature semiconductivity of each sample changed into metallic property.

A Study of Physicochemical Characteristics and Adsorption properties of Cs and Sr of Natural Zeolite from Kuryongpo in Korea (한국 구룡포산 천연 제올라이트의 이화학적 특성 및 Cs과 Sr 흡착 특성 연구)

  • X-ray diffraction analysis, X-ray fluorescence analysis, thermal differential and thermos gravimetric analysis, cation exchange capacity analysis, and Cesium (Cs), Strontium (Sr) adsorption experiments were performed to investigate the physical and chemical properties of natural zeolite from Guryongpo in Korea. As a result of X-ray diffraction analysis, minerals such as mordenite, heulandite, clinoptilolite, and illite are contained, and as a result of X-ray fluorescence analysis, elements such as SiO2, Al2O3, CaO, K2O, MgO, Fe2O3 and Na2O are contained, and the cation exchange capacity was 148.6 meq/100 g. As a result of thermal differential and thermos gravimetric analysis, it was confirmed that the thermal stability was excellent up to 600 ℃. As a result of the adsorption equilibrium experiment over time, the equilibrium was reached within 30 min. for Cesium (Cs) and within 8 hr. for Strontium (Sr), and the adsorption rates of Cesium (Cs) and Strontium (Sr) were 80% and 18%, respectively. As a result of the single-component isothermal adsorption experiment, in conformed to the Langmuir model, and the maximum Cesium (Cs) adsorption amount was 131.5 mg/g, which was high, while the Strontium (Sr) maximum adsorption amount was 29.5 mg/g, which was low. In the case of the natural zeolite used in this study, the content of minerals including 8-rings such as clinoptilolite, heulandite, and mordenite is high, showing high selectivity for Cesium (Cs).

A Study of the Nonstoichiometry and Physical Properties of the Nd1-xBaxFeO3-y System ($Nd_{1-x}Ba_xFeO_{3-y}$계의 비화학량론과 물리적 성질에 관한 연구)

  • A series of samples in the $Nd_{1-x}Ba_xFeO_{3-y}$ system has been prepared by heating the reactants to$1200^{\circ}C$ under an ambient atmosphere, and the solid solutions were identified by X-ray power diffraction analysis. The crystal systems of samples with x = 0.00 and 0.25 were found to be orthorhombic whose local symmetry is similiar to the distorted octahedral with orthoferrite type one, whereas those with x = 0.50 and 0.75 to be the cubic system. Since Fe ions in the solid solutions are a mixed valence state between $Fe^{3+}\;and\;Fe^{4+}$ ions, the nonstoichiometric chemical formulas could be determined from the mole ratio of $Fe^{4+}$ ion and oxygen vacacies. According to the Mossbauer spectroscopic analysis, the presence of 5-coordinated $FeO_5$ was evidenced only in the barium compounds along with $FeO_6,\;and\;FeO_4$, but not in the strontium and calcium compounds. The samples with x = 0.25 and 0.50 show a spectrum of superparamagnetism, which might be due to the formation of a domain of the ferromagnetic interaction between the $Fe^{3+}\;and\;Fe^{4+}$ ions. The electrical conductivities of all samples are within semiconducting range. Since the $Fe^{4+}$ ion acts as an electron acceptor level during the electron transfer between the Fe through intermediate $O^{2-}$ ions, the activation energy of the compounds decreases with the increment of $Fe^{4+}$ content.

Crystal Growth and Solid Solution of Hexagonal Ferrites (육방정 페라이트의 고용성 및 단결정 육성 연구)

  • single crystals of various hexagonal ferrites were grown by a flux technique. For the growing experiment platinum crucibles of size 40 cc and a horizontal siliconit tube furnace were used. Charges consisted of the flux of BaO(SrO)/$B_2O_3$ and the composition of crystals in the system of BaO $(SrO)-Fe_2O_3-ZnO$. The BaO(SrO)/$B_2O_3$ molar ratio of the flux were varied from 1 to 3. Crystals up to 12.5mm in diameter were grown by slow cooling of melts from a maximum temperature of 1, 30$0^{\circ}C$or 1, 350$0^{\circ}C$ to 95$0^{\circ}C$ or 1, 00$0^{\circ}C$ The grown crystals exhibited a tabular hexagonal habits with very well developed ba-sal planes and narrow pyramidal faces of {1011} {1012} and {0001}. For the identification of the grown crystals X-ray diffraction studies were carried out. The effects of va-riations in flux ratio flux percentage and cooling rate on the quality of the grown crystals were studied. Cry-stal habits hillocks etch steps and growth spirals were observed by optical microscope. Magnetic properties of single crystals were measured.
