  • Phase equilibria and reaction paths of the superconducting phases and other compatible phases at $850^{\circ}C$ in the Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O system were studied. $Bi_2O_3$ was added to $Sr_2CaCu_2O_x$ by 5% up to 40 mole% Bi in the pseudo-binary $Bi_2O_3-(Sr_2CaCu_2O_x)$ system and the heat treated samples were analysed using XRD. SEM, EDS. and DT A. When Bi contents were greater than 35 mole% Bi, liquid phase was formed which was compatible with $Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_8$ phase. The m.p. of $Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_8$ phase decreased as the content of (Sr+Ca)decreased. $Bi_{2+x}Sr_2CaCu_2O_8$ phase first segregated out of liquid phase around $Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_8$ phase during cooling of liquid phase.

  • To enhance the formation of Bi,Sr,Ca,Cu,O,(Bi-2223) single phase in a shorter reaction time, the intermediate compounds such as Bi,Sr,CuO,(Bi-2201). BizSr,CaCuz08(Bi-2212) and (Ca, Sr,, ,9)CuOz in the Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-0 system were used as the precursors. The formation of Bi-2223 was enhanced in the mixture of Bi-2201 and (Ca, ,,Sr, 119)C~eOsZpe,c ially from the mixture with (Ca, 9I Sr, ,,)CuO,-rich composition compared to Bi, iPb, 4Sr2Ca,Cu3010-cxo mposition. The formation of Bi- 2223 essentially completed within 60h at 860$^{\circ}$C and 870$^{\circ}$C. However, a small amount of the remnant Bi-2212 phase did not disappear even after a prolonged reaction at 870'C. The merit of the proposed synthetic method using the intermediate precusors can be summarized as a shorter reaction time for the formation of Bi-2223 phase, in addition to a smaller amount of second phases compared to the conventional solid-state reaction method.

  • $Pb/Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_{8+\delta}$-single-crystal junctions with the tunneling direction along the c axis of the crystal were fabricated to obtain an s-wave-superconductor/d-wave-superconductor Josephson junctions. The tunneling R (T) curves and current-voltage characteristics show distinct features which can be explained only under the assumption that the order parameter of high-$T_c/Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_{8+{\delta}}$ superconductors has a pure d-wave symmetry, which is in contrast to the case of $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7+{\delta$}}$erconductors where a minor s-wave component is also present..

  • $Sr_2Ru_{1-x}Cu_xO_{4-y}(0.0{\le}x{\le}0.5)$ compounds were prepared using a conventional solid state reaction. Based on the Rietveld refinements of X-ray diffraction results, it is revealed that $Sr_2Ru_{1-x}Cu_xO_{4-y}$ compounds are the single phases with K2NiF4 type tetragonal system in the range of 0=x=0.3, while the mixed phases of$Sr_2RuO_4$ and $Sr_2CuO_3$ in the range of $0.4{\le}x{\le}0.5$. By means of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, the valence states of Ru and Cu in $Sr_2Ru_{1-x}Cu_xO_{4-y}$, have been confirmed to 4+ and 2+, respectively. The bond length difference between $Ru-O_1 ({\times}4)\;and\;Ru-O_2 ({\times}2)\;in\;RuO_6$ octahedron is gradually decreased with increasing Cu content in $Sr_2Ru_{1-x}Cu_xO_{4-y}$, which results in the lower c/a ratio. So, it might be assured that the variation of local symmetry of $RuO_6$ octahedron is very closely related to the transporting property of $Sr_2Ru_{1-x}Cu_xO_{4-y}$ compounds. The behavior of resistivity discloses that the metallic property in $Sr_2RuO_4$ changes into the semiconducting one in proportion to the Cu content in $Sr_2Ru_{1-x}Cu_xO_{4-y}$.

  • The effect of Cu substitution on the structural and superconducting properties of the $(Ru_{1-x}Cu_x)Sr_2(Eu_{1.34{\cdot}}Ce_{0.66})Cu_2O_z$ system with x = 0, 0.25 and 0.5 prepared under ambient pressure have been investigated. The X-ray diffraction patterns indicated that the Ru ions are replaced by the Cu ions. It is found that the Cu substitution for Ru significantly reduces the ferromagnetic component of field-cooled magnetic susceptibility, but results in a small change in diamagnetic onset transition temperature of zero-field-cooled magnetic susceptibility. In contrast to the Ru $Sr_2(Eu_{1.34{\cdot}}Ce_{0.66})Cu_2O_z$, bulk Meissner effect is observed in the field-cooled magnetization measurements of the Cu doped samples. The experimental results are discussed in connection with the spontaneous vortex phase interpretation.

  • Wekk oriented $Bi_{2} Sr_{2} CaCu_{2} O_{8}$ suppercondcting thick films were fabricared on copper tape by LiReac-PreCu (liquid reaction between a Cu-free precousor and Cu tape) method. Cu-free precursor power which is composed of $Bi_{2}Sr_{2}Ca_{5}$ was printed on a copper tape by screen printing and was heat-treated. The speciment were partially in a molten state at the heat treatment temperature (85$0^{\circ}C$~87$0^{\circ}C$). The heat heat treatments for the reaction were performed in air or low oxygen pressure in several stages. XRD analyses of the resulting Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 superconducting tapes show that the $Bi_{2} Sr_{2} CaCu_{2} O_{8}$ phase is dominant and a small amount of $Bi_{2} Sr_{2} Cu_{2} O_{6}$ phase is detected. Both phases are aligned in the c-axis direction.

  • The effects of CuO and SiO2 on the sintered density, grain growth and magnetic properties of Sr-ferrite were investigated. The sintered density of Sr-ferrite is increased with increasing the amount of CuO or SiO2 addition. The grain of Sr-ferrite grow uniformly with the addition of CuO, so remanence increases and coercivity decreases. The addition of SiO2 increase coercivity but does not affect remanence prominently. The sintering temperature above 125$0^{\circ}C$ and SiO2 addition above 0.8wt% causes abnormal grain growth in Sr-ferrite. When CuO and SiO2 are added simultaneouly, remanence does not decrease but coercivity shows low value.

  • We investigated the effects of Ba and Cu co-substitution on the structural and superconducting properties of ($Ru_{1-y}Cu_y$)($Sr_{1.67-x}Ba_xEu_{0.33}$)($Eu_{1.34}Ce_{0.66}$)$Cu_2O_z$ samples. X-ray diffraction(XRD) reveals that single-phase samples can be obtained in the range from x = 0.1 to 0.2 for ($Ru_{0.5}Cu_{0.5}$)($Sr_{1.67-x}Ba_xEu_{0.33}$)($Eu_{1.34}Ce_{0.66}$)$Cu_2O_z$ and from y = 0.25 to 0.5 for ($Ru_{1-y}Cu_y$)($Sr_{1.47}Ba_{0.2}Eu_{0.33}$)($Eu_{1.34}Ce_{0.66}$)$Cu_2O_z$, respectively. All samples with compositions of ($Ru_{0.5}Cu_{0.5}$)($Sr_{1.67-x}Ba_xEu_{0.33}$) ($Eu_{1.34}Ce_{0.66}$)$Cu_2O_z$ (x = 0 - 0.33) show superconducting transition behavior and the onset transition temperature decreases slightly with increasing x in consistent with the change of hole concentration estimated from room temperature thermoelectric power measurements. The XRD and resistivity measurements for the ($Ru_{1-y}Cu_y$)($Sr_{1.47}Ba_{0.2}Eu_{0.33}$)($Eu_{1.34}Ce_{0.66}$) $Cu_2O_z$ system indicate that the partial substitution of Cu for Ru is necessary to form phase pure samples, but result in a small change in transition temperature in the single-phase region from x = 0.25 to 0.5.
