The Analysis of DC Plasmas Characteristics on SFSF6 and N2 Mixture Gases (SF6/N2 혼합기체의 DC 플라즈마 특성 분석)

  • $SF_6$ gas has been used for power transformers or gas insulated switchgears, because it has the superior insulation property and the stable structure chemically. It has been, however, one of global warming gases and required to reduce the its amount. Some papers have reported that its amount could be reduced by mixing with other gases, such as $N_2$, $CF_4$, $CO_2$ and $C_4F_8$ and their mixture gases would cause the synergy effect. In this paper, we investigated the characteristics of DC plasmas on $SF_6$ mixture gases with $N_2$ at atmospheric pressure. $N_2$ gas is one of cheap gases and has been reported to show the synergy effect with mixing $SF_6$ gas, even though $N_2$ plasmas have electron-positive characteristics. 38 kinds of $SF_6/N_2$ plasma particles, which consisted of an electron, two positive ions, five negative ions, 30 excitation and vibration particles, were considered in a one dimensional fluid simulation model with capacitively coupled plasma chamber. The results showed that the joule heating of $SF_6/N_2$ plasmas was mainly caused by positive ions, on the other hand electrons acted on holding the $SF_6/N_2$ plasmas stably. The joule heating was strongly generated near the electrodes, which caused the increase of neutral gas temperature within the chamber. The more $N_2$ mixed-ratio increased, the less joule heating was. And the power consumptions by electron and positive ions increased with the increase of $N_2$ mixed-ratio.

  • The model interrupters of $SF_6$ gas electromagnetic contactor whose ratings are 7.2kV, 4.0kA have been designed and manufactured on the basis of theoretical and computational analysis for its development. The eddy current analysis, the magnetic field analysis and the calculation of the rotational force on arcs have been conducted using FLUX2D package. The short circuit current interrupting tests have been conducted for the model interrupters using the simplified synthetic testing facility in KERI. The results show that the model interrupters have sufficient interrupting capability and the new design concept is prefer for good interrupting performance.

  • In this paper, a development of the 7.2kV class $SF_6$ gas electromagnetic contactor which is used a rotary-arc principle in interrupting method is presented. A prototype contactor is made. In the interrupting small current permanent-magnet is used and in the interrupting high current the coil through which arc current itself flows is used. Successfully the prototype contactor carrys out the making, the braking and short time test.

  • $SF_6$ gas is well known as a global warming gas. Global warming potential of $SF_6$ gas is 22,000 times higher than that of $CO_2$. Recycling of $SF_6$ gas is an essential technology for the sake of the environment and the economy. The recovery processes of $SF_6$ gas studied in this work were liquefaction, distillation, and crystallization processes because these processes were thought to be easily carried to the fields for recycling waste $SF_6$ gas. The processes were simulated and optimized using Aspen plus. The optimization problems were formulated to minimize energy consumption with satisfying product specification and desired recovery. The performance of the processes was compared based on the optimization results. Effects of major process variables on the recovery performance were investigated and optimal operation guide for changing product specification and product recovery was provided.

  • To prevent oxidation of Mg melt, $SF_6$ gas has been generally used for Mg alloys during melting and casting as a cover gas. The use of $SF_6$ gas, however, will be restricted owing to its crucial impact on global warming. Non-$SF_6$ process during melting and casting in diecasting industry has been proved with Eco-Mg alloys by a simple addition of small amount of CaO into Mg alloys. This paper shows non-$SF_6$ diecasting procedures for 0.7wt% CaO added AZ91D Eco-Mg alloys. Cold-chamber diecasting was performed under $CO_2$ atmosphere without $SF_6$ gas. An increment of mechanical properties, especially strength and ductility of Eco-Mg alloys is, in part, due to high-quality melt, refined grain size and $Al_2Ca$ second phase strengthening. Microstructures and mechanical properties of 0.7wt% CaO added AZ91D Eco-Mg alloys are evaluated in comparison with those of conventional AZ91D Mg alloy.

  • In recent years, the companies of electric power equipment for MV, HV class trend to develop that the eco-friendly insulated(solid, eco-gas, air etc.) switchgear replace with existent SF6 gas insulated switchgear by environmental problems such as global warming and soon. This paper introduces the Solid Insulated Switchgear(SIS) which is the epoxy of eco-friendly insulation material.   • This paper presents experimental results relating to the preliminary breakdown characteristics in $SF_6/CO_2$ gas mixtures under a highly non-uniform electric field. The impulse pre-breakdown developments are investigated by the measurements of corona current and light emission images. As a result, the preliminary breakdown development mechanisms for both the positive and negative polarities were fundamentally same. The first streamer corona was initiated at the tip of needle electrode, and the leaders developed with a stepwise propagation and bridged the test gap. The pause time of leader pulses in the positive polarity was significantly shorter than that in the negative polarity. Also, the time interval between the first streamer corona onset and breakdown in the negative polarity was much longer than that in the positive polarity. The discharge channel path in the positive polarity was zigzag, and the leader channel in the negative polarity was thicker and brighter than that in the positive polarity.

  • Fluoronitriles-$CO_2$ gas mixtures are promising alternatives to $SF_6$ in environmentally-friendly gas-insulated transmission lines (GILs). Insulating gas heat transfer characteristics are of major significance for the current-carrying capacity design and operational state monitoring of GILs. In this paper, a three-dimensional calculation model was established for a GIL using the thermal-fluid coupled finite element method. The calculated results showed close agreement with experimentally measured data. The temperature distribution of a GIL filled with the Fluoronitriles-$CO_2$ mixture was obtained and compared with those of GILs filled with $CO_2$ and $SF_6$. Furthermore, the effects of the mixture ratio of the component gases and the gas pressure on the temperature rise and current-carrying capacity of the GIL were analyzed. Results indicated that the heat transfer performance of the Fluoronitriles-$CO_2$ gas mixture was better than that of $CO_2$ but worse than that of $SF_6$. When compared with $SF_6$, use of the Fluoronitriles-$CO_2$ gas mixture caused a reduction in the GIL's current-carrying capacity. In addition, increasing the Fluoronitriles gas component ratio or increasing the pressure of the insulating gas mixture could improve the heat dissipation and current-carrying capacity of the GIL. These research results can be used to design environmentally-friendly GILs containing Fluoronitriles-$CO_2$ gas mixtures.

Comparative Characterization of Growth and Recombinant Protein Production among Three Insect Cell Lines with Four Kinds of Serum Free media

  • Three insect cell lines, Sf9, Sf21 and Tn5Bl-4, and four different kinds of serum free media (SFM), Sf 900 II, EX-CELL 420, EX-CELL 405 and Express Five, were used to compare the nutrient consumption, byproduct formation, production of recombinant protein and protease activity in suspension cultures. The Sf 900 II SFM was a ppropriate for the cell growth and protein production of the Sf9 and Sf21 cell lines. When the Tn5Bl-4 cell line was grown in the Express Five SFM, the specific growth rate was 1.6 fold higher than those of either the Sf9 or Sf21 cell lines. The glucose and glutamine consumption rates per cells, were 4 and 2.3 times higher than those of the Sf9 cell line, respectively. The overall yield coefficients of the lactate and ammoniumion were 2.8 and 1.5 times higher compared to those of the Sf9 cell line. respectively. The maximum specific ${\beta}$-galactosidase production rate was 4.5 fold that of the Sf9 cell line, a 3 times higher protease activity per cell.
