  • We present a kinematic analysis of 172 likely member galaxies of the Ursa Major Cluster. In order to understand the dynamical state of the cluster, we investigate the correlation of the cluster morphology with rotation, the velocity dispersion profile, and the rotation amplitude parallel to the global rotation direction. Both the minor axis and the rotation are very well-aligned with the global rotation axis in the outer region at half radius (> 0.5 $R_{max}$), but not in the inner region. The cluster exhibits low velocity dispersion and rotation amplitude profiles in the inner region, but higher in the outer. Both profiles exhibit outwardly increasing trends, suggesting an inside-out transfer of angular momentum of dark matter via violent relaxation, as revealed by a recent off-axis major-merging simulation. From Dressler-Schectman plots in the plane of galactic positions, and velocity versus position angle of galaxy, we are able to divide the Ursa Major Cluster into two substructures: Ursa Major South (UMS) and Ursa Major North (UMN). We derive a mass of $3.2{\times}10^{14}M_{\odot}$ for the cluster through the two-body analysis by the timing argument with the distance information (37 for UMN and 36 for UMS) and the spin parameter of ${\lambda}=0.049$. The two substructures appear to have passed each other 4.4 Gyr ago and are moving away to the maximum separation.

  • The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of naringin on the pharmacokinetics of tamoxifen in rats. Tamoxifen (10 mg/kg) was administered orally 0.5 h and 3 days after oral administration of naringin (5 mg/kg). The plasma concentrations of tamoxifen were increased significantly tv naringin compared to control. Absorption rate constant ($K_a$) of tamoxifen with naringin was increased significantly compared to that of the control. The areas under the plasma concentration-time curve (AUC) and the peak concentrations ($C_{max}$) of tamoxifen with naringin were significantly higher than those of the control. Consequently, the relative bioavailability (R.B${\%}$) of tamoxifen with naringin was 2-3-fold higher than the control, and absolute bioavailability (A.B${\%}$) of tamoxifen were significantly higher (p<0.05 with coadministration, p<0.01 with pretreatment) than those of the control. The increased bioavailability of tamoxifen in rats with naringin might be associated with the inhibition by naringin of an efflux pump P-glycoprotein and the first-pass metabolizing enzyme CYP3A4.

  • Mechanical structures with power sources experience repeated force produced by motors. In result, the life of the pipes reduces and ultimately, the pipes collapse. Such pipes are formed into several shapes and particularly, the U-shape pipe is damaged frequently. In most cases, the U-shape pipe is made with a straight pipe by complicated bending work. During this work process, plastic deformation of the pipe produces residual stress in the pipe. This residual stress significantly affects the fracture behavior of the pipe and induces the change of the stress ratio (min. stress/Max. stress = R). For this reason, residual stress has to be evaluated. In this paper, the residual stress of a U-shaped pipe was evaluated by FEM analysis. In addition, fatigue tests of the U-shaped pipe were performed by using a uniaxial fatigue testing machine. The results of the fatigue test were modified with the results of FEM (Finite Element Method) analysis for residual stress. The modified fatigue test results of the U-shaped pipe were compared with those of a straight pipe.

  • In the past decade, there have been many advances in whole-genome sequencing in domestic animals, as well as the development of "next-generation" sequencing technologies and high-throughput genotyping platforms. Consequently, these advances have led to the creation of the high-density SNP array as a state-of-the-art tool for genetics and genomics analyses of domestic animals. The emergence and utilization of SNP arrays will have significant impacts not only on the scale, speed, and expense of SNP genotyping, but also on theoretical and applied studies of quantitative genetics, population genetics and molecular evolution. The most promising applications in agriculture could be genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and genomic selection for the improvement of economically important traits. However, some challenges still face these applications, such as incorporating linkage disequilibrium (LD) information from HapMap projects, data storage, and especially appropriate statistical analyses on the high-dimensional, structured genomics data. More efforts are still needed to make better use of the high-density SNP arrays in both academic studies and industrial applications.

  • In many wireless sensor network (WSN) applications, the information transmitted by an individual entity or node is of limited use without the knowledge of its location. Research in node localization is mostly geared towards multi-hop range-free localization algorithms to achieve accuracy by minimizing localization errors between the node's actual and estimated position. The existing localization algorithms are focused on improving localization accuracy without considering efficiency in terms of energy costs and algorithm convergence time. In this work, we show that our proposed localization scheme, called DV-maxHop, can achieve good accuracy and efficiency. We formulate the multi-objective optimization functions to minimize localization errors as well as the number of transmission during localization phase. We evaluate the performance of our scheme using extensive simulation on several anisotropic and isotropic topologies. Our scheme can achieve dual objective of accuracy and efficiency for various scenarios. Furthermore, the recently proposed algorithms require random uniform distribution of anchors. We also utilized our proposed scheme to compare and study some practical anchor distribution schemes.

  • This study focuses on the effect of the elasticity modulus of jig material on blade edge shape in the grinding process of a sapphire medical knife. The ELID grinding process was applied as the edge-grinding method for sapphire material. Carbon steel and copper have been selected as the hard and soft jig materials, respectively. The blade edge created by ELID grinding was measured by a surface roughness tester and optical microscope. The shape of the ground edge and surface roughness were compared using the measurement results. As a result, it was found that chipping in the blade edge of the sapphire knife occurred more than in the case of jig material with a high-elasticity modulus because of the high normal force in the grinding process. Moreover, the maximum height surface roughness, $R_{max}$,of the ground surface was higher in the case of the jig material with a high-elasticity modulus due to the difference in elasticelongation. It was considered to lead to chipping from the notch effect.

  • Evapotranspiration (ET) is one of the basic components of the hydrologic cycle and is essential for estimating irrigation water requirements. In this study, artificial neural network (ANN) models for reference crop evapotranspiration ($ET_0$) estimation were developed on a monthly basis (May~October). The models were trained and tested for Suwon, Korea. Four climate factors, daily maximum temperature ($T_{max}$), daily minimum temperature ($T_{min}$), rainfall (R), and solar radiation (S) were used as the input parameters of the models. The target values of the models were calculated using Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Penman-Monteith equation. Future climate data were generated using LARS-WG (Long Ashton Research Station-Weather Generator), stochastic weather generator, based on HadCM3 (Hadley Centre Coupled Model, ver.3) A1B scenario. The evapotranspirations were 549.7 mm/yr in baseline period (1973-2008), 558.1 mm/yr in 2011-2030, 593.0 mm/yr in 2046-2065, and 641.1 mm/yr in 2080-2099. The results showed that the ANN models achieved good performances in estimating future reference crop evapotranspiration.

  • Results of an analysis of 11 nights of R-filter CCD photometry data of an intermediate polar MU Camelopardalis (MU Cam) obtained at the Korean 1.0 m telescope at Mt. Lemmon are reported. After checking the spin period with our data, $P_{spin}=0.^d01373801(59)$, we compiled the reported data of maxima timing and an O-C diagram analysis has been carried out to understand the spin period variation. A significant spin period variation was detected, and fitting the O-C points to a cubic parabola led to an ephemeris of $BJD_{max}=2453682.4178(94)+0.0137380(13)E-2.07(55){\times}10^{-11}E^2+2.28(52){\times}10^{-15}E^3$. The torque experienced by the magnetic compact star accreting in a disk is estimated as ${\tau}{\approx}1.815{\times}10^{35}gcm^2/s^2$ in a simple approximation in order to show how important monitoring the period variation is. Thus we conclude that monitoring the long-term spin period variation will help to understand the physical condition of magnetic compact stars.

  • During the rice storage at $28^{\cir}{\pm}1^{\cir}C$ and $60{\sim}70%$ R.H., the moisture content of rice, was increased max. 1. 6% by the activity of rice weevil. The growth of Asp. repens was not affected, while Asp. niger was inhibited after the appearance of its second generation adults. The development of rice weevil was generally accelerated by both of Asp. repens and Asp. niger, but decelerated at higher density of Asp. niger($1.6{\times}10^4$ propagules/g). The total number of rice weevil showed no significant difference during six weeks.
