This study investigated the effects of adding a third alloying element, Ni, to create $Fe_{70-x}Pd_{30}Ni_x$ (x = 2, 4, 6, 8 at.% Ni) ferromagnetic shape memory alloys (FSMAs). The Ni replaced a portion of the Fe. The $Fe_{70-x}Pd_{30}Ni_x$ alloys were homogenized through hot and cold forging to gain a ~38% reduction in thickness, next they were solution-treated (ST) with annealing recrystallization at $1100^{\circ}C$ for 8 h and quenched in ice brine, and then aged at $500^{\circ}C$ for 100 h. Investigation of the microstructures and magnetostriction indicated that the greater Ni amount in the $Fe_{70-x}Pd_{30}Ni_x$ alloys reduced saturation magnetostriction at room temperature (RT). It was also observed that it was more difficult to generate annealed recrystallization. However, with greater Ni addition into the $Fe_{70-x}Pd_{30}Ni_x$ (x = 6, 8 at.% Ni) alloys, the $L1_0+L1_m$ twin phase decomposition into stoichiometric $L1_0+L1_m+{\alpha}_{bct}$ structures was suppressed after the $500^{\circ}C$/100 h aging treatment. The result was that the $Fe_{70-x}Pd_{30}Ni_x$ (x = 6, 8 at.% Ni) alloys maintained a high magnetostriction and magnetostrictive susceptibility (${\Delta}{\lambda}{_\parallel}{^s}/{\Delta}H$) after the alloys were aged at $500^{\circ}C$ for 100 h. This magnetic property of the $Fe_{70-x}Pd_{30}Ni_x$ (x = 6, 8 at.% Ni) alloys make it suitable for application in a high temperature (T > $500^{\circ}C$) and high frequency environments.
The reaction of bromoacetonitrile with 3,14-dimethyl-2,6,13,17-tetraazatetracyclo[$16.4.1^{2.6}.0^{1.18}.0^{7.12}$]tricosane ($L^{10}$) containing a N-$CH_2$-N linkage produces 17-cyanomethyl-3,14-dimethyl-2,6,13,17-tetraazatetracyclo-[$16.4.1^{2.6}.0^{1.18}.0^{7.12}$]tricosane ($L^{11}$). The mono-N-functionalized macrocyclic complexes $[ML^2]^{2+}$ (M = Ni(II) or Cu(II); $L^2$ = 2-cyanomethyl-5,16-dimethyl-2,6,13,17-tetraazatricyclo[$16.4.0.0^{7.12}$]docosane) can be prepared by the reaction of $L^{11}$ with nickel(II) or copper(II) ion in acetonitrile. The N-$CH_2CN$ group attached to $[ML^2]^{2+}$ readily reacts with water or methanol to yield the corresponding complexes of $HL^3$ bearing one N-$CH_2CONH_2$ pendant arm or $L^4$ bearing one $N-CH_2C(=NH)OCH_3$ group. The $N-CH_2CONH_2$ or $N-CH_2C(=NH)OCH_3$ group of each complex is coordinated to the central metal ion. Both $[NiL^4(H_2O)]^{2+}$ and $[CuL^4]^{2+}$ are quite stable in acidic aqueous solutions, but undergo hydrolysis to yield $[Ni(HL^3)(H_2O)]^{2+}$ or $[Cu(HL^3)]^{2+}$ in basic aqueous solutions. In contrast to $[Cu(HL^3)]^{2+}$, $[Ni(HL^3) (H_2O)]^{2+}$ is readily deprotonated to form $[NiL^3 (H_2O)]^+$ ($L^3$ = a deprotonated form of $HL^3$) in basic aqueous solutions.
The synthesis of a novel series of nickel(II) complexes with new ligands derived from hydrazones of isoniazid have been reported in present work. The complexes have general compositions [$Ni(L)_2X_2$] or $[Ni(L)_3](ClO_4)_2$ {L = N-isonicotinamido-furfuraldimine (INH-FFL), N-isonicotinamido-3',4',5'-trimethoxybenzaldimine (INH-TMB) or N-isonicotinamido-cinnamalidene (INH-CIN) and X = $Cl^-$, ${NO_3}^-$, $ NCS^-$ or $CH_3COO^-$}. The ligands hydrazones behave as neutral bidentates (N and O donor) through the carbonyl oxygen and azomethine nitrogen. The new complexes with octahedral geometry have been characterized by elemental analysis, molecular weight determinations, magnetic susceptibility/moment, thermogravimetric, electrochemical and spectroscopic studies viz. infrared and electronic spectra. On the basis of conductivity measurements in nitrobenzene ($PhNO_2$) solution the [$Ni(L)_2X_2$] and $[Ni(L)_3](ClO_4)_2$ complexes have been found to be non-electrolytes and 1:2 electrolytes, respectively. Thermal properties have also been investigated, which support the geometry of the complexes. Antibacterial and antifungal properties of nickel(II) complexes and few standard drugs have also been examined and it has been observed that the complexes have moderate antibacterial activities.
In this study, we performed an electrowinning process for effective removal of metals (Cu and Ni) in solution and their recovery as solid forms. A complete removal of Cu and Ni (1,000 mg/L) was observed during four times recycling test, indicating that our electrowinning system can ensure the efficient metal removal with high stability and durability. In addition, we investigated effect of operation parameters (i.e., concentration of boric acid only for Ni, variation of pH, concentration of electrolyte ($H_2SO_4$), and cell voltage) on the efficiency of metal removal (Cu and Ni) during the electrowinning. The addition of boric acid significantly enhanced removal efficiency of Ni as the concentration of boric acid increased up to 10 g/L. Compared to negligible pH effect (pH 1, 2, and 4) on the Cu removal, we observed the increase in removal efficiency of Ni as the pH increased from 1 to 4. The electrolyte concentration did not significantly influence the removal of Cu and Ni in this study. We also obtained great removal rates of Cu and Ni at 2.5 V and 4.0 V, which were much faster than those at lower voltages. Finally, almost 99% of each Cu and Ni (1,000 mg/L) was selectively removed from the mixture of metals by adjusting pH and addition of boric acid after the completion of Cu removal. The findings in this study can provide a fundamental knowledge about effect of important parameters on the efficiency of metal recovery during the electrowinning.

Kenaf plants were hydroponically grown in reactor containing toxic metals as Cd, Cu, Cr, Ni and Zn to examine the ability to take up heavy metal. The plants were fertilized using a nutrient solution, which was appropriately adjusted to optimum pH, DO and conductivity. For n hydraulic retention time of 8 days, Cr, Cd, Cu, Ni and Zn were removed up to 90.5, 80.5, 66.1%, 71.1% and 79.4%, and reduced from 2.34 to 0.54 mg $L^{-1}$, 3.37 to 1.07 mg $L^{-1}$, 4.92 to 3.19 mg $L^{-1}$, 6.31 to 4.41 mg $L^{-1}$ and 6.27 to 2.09 mg $L^{-1}$. Especially, accumulation rate of Cr, Cd, Cu, Ni and Zn in the plant were measured up to 347.32, 275.39, 157.52, 50.48 and 211.01 mg DW kg $L^{-1}d^{-1}$, respectively. We considered that Kenaf plants removed Cr, Cd and Zn more effectively than other toxic metals applied.
Ni-CNT(Carbon Nanotube) composite coatings is were formed by electrodeposition and their physical properties were investigated with variations of CNT content(1, 3, 6. 9 g/L) in the electrolyte solution, while the current density and electroplating time were fixed respectively at $6A/dm^2$ and 90 min.. With increasing CNT content from 1 to 9 g/L, incorporated CNTs into the composite coating were limited from 4.65 wt.% to 7.38 wt.%. Microhardness and contact angle values were increased with increasing CNT content of upto 3 g/L. With increasing the CNT content further, physical properties were degraded due to agglomeration, poor adhesion of CNTs to Ni matrix and thus rough surfaces. Optimum electroplating conditions were found to be the CNT content of 3 g/L, current density of 6 A/dm2 and electroplating time of 90 min.
Structural studies have been performed on precipitation hardening found in $L1_2$ ordered ${\gamma}^{\prime}-Ni_3(Al,Ti)$ alloys using transmission electron microscopy. A uniform solid solution of ${\gamma}^{\prime}-L1_2$ ordered phase supersaturated with Ni can be obtained by solution annealing in a suitable temperature range. The ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ phase hardens appreciably by the fine precipitation of disordered ${\gamma}$. The shape of ${\gamma}$ precipitates formed during aging is initially spherical or round-cubic and grow into platelets as aging proceeds. High resolution electron microscopy revealed that the ${\gamma}$ precipitates are perfectly coherent with the matrix ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ as long as the ${\gamma}$-precipitates are plates. The loss of coherency initiates by the introduction of dislocations at the ${\gamma}/{\gamma}^{\prime}$ interface followed by the step formation at the dislocations. The ${\gamma}$ precipitates become globular after the loss of coherency. The strength of ${\gamma}^{\prime}-Ni_3(Al,Ti)$ increases over the temperature range of experiment by the precipitation of fine ${\gamma}$ particles. The peak temperature where a maximum strength was obtained shifted to higher temperature.
Recently Hong and Oh [5] provided a fairly general weak law for arrays in the following form: Let {(X/sub ni/, l ≤ i ≤ k/sub n/), n ≥ l}, k/sub n/ → ∞ as n → ∞, be an array of random variables on (Ω, F, P) and set F/sub nj/ = σ{X/sub ni/, 1 ≤ i ≤ j}, 1 ≤ j ≤ k/sub n/, n ≥ 1, and F/sub n0/ = {ø, Ω}, n ≥ 1. Suppose that (equation omitted) aP { X/sub ni/ /sup p/ > a} → 0 as a → ∞ uniformly in n for some 0 < p < 2. Then S/sub n//(equation omitted) → 0 in probability as n → ∞ where S/sub n/ = (equation omitted)(X/sub ni/ - E(X/sib ni/I( X/sub ni/ /sub p/ ≤ k/sub n/) F/sub n,i-l/)). In this note, we will prove the following result under the same domination condition of Hong and Oh [5].(omitted)
The complex [Ni(L)]I2 (1) (L:3,5,10,12-Tetramethly-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane) has been prepared and characterized by X-ray diffraction methods. The complex 1 crystallized in the orthorhombic system, space group Pcab with cell parameters a=13.293(1) Å, b=28.550(7) Å, c=10.804(1) Å, z=8. Least-squares refinement of 1 led to a R(Rw) factor of 0.043 (0.046) for 1851 observed reflections of Fo>3o (Fo). The crystal structure of 1 has a slightly distorted square-planar geometry and adopts the trans-III conformation.
