디젤엔진 요소수 분사 SCR 시스템에서 촉매 내 암모니아 흡장량의 증가에 따른 NOx 저감효율 향상 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Improvement of Diesel NOx Conversion Efficiency by Increasing the Ammonia Amount Adsorbed in a SCR Catalyst)

  • Nowadays, urea SCR technology is considered as the most effective NOx reduction technology of diesel engine. However, low NOx conversion efficiency under low temperature conditions is one of its problems to be solved. This is because injection of UWS (Urea Water Solution) is impossible under such a low temperature condition due to the problem of insufficient of urea decomposition and urea deposits. In several previous studies, it has been reported that appropriate control of the amount of ammonia adsorbed on SCR catalyst can improve the NOx conversion efficiency under low temperature conditions. In this study, we tried to find out how much the NOx conversion efficiency increases with respect to the amount of ammonia adsorbed on the catalyst, and what the temperature conditions that the ammonia slip occurs. This study shows the results of 8 times repeated WHTC test with a diesel engine, in which UWS was injected with NH3/NOx mole ratio of '1'. Through this study, it was found that 13% of the NOx conversion efficiency of WHTC increased while the θ (ammonia adsorption rate) increased from "0%" to "22%". In addition, it is found that in cases of high θ value, the significant improvement of NOx conversion efficiency at low temperatures presented during the beginning period of WHTC and at high temperature and transient conditions presented during last part of WHTC test. The NH3 slip occurring condition was 250℃ of catalyst temperature and 10% of θ, and the amount of NH3 slip increased as the temperature and θ are increased.

LNT 촉매 후단의 NH3 생성 특성 (NH3 Generation Characteristics of a LNT Catalyst Downstream)

  • As diesel engines have high power and good fuel economy on top of less $CO_2$ emissions, their market shares are increasing not only in commercial vehicles but also in passenger cars. LNT, urea-SCR and combination of them have been developed for after-treatment of the exhaust gas to reduce NOx on diesel vehicles. The aim of this study is to investigate the $NH_3$ generation characteristics of LNT catalyst downstream. It was found from the experiments of the LNT catalyst that $H_2$ was useful as a reductant in SCR catalyst because it can enhance the de-NOx performance and improve $NH_3$ selectivity. The $NH_3$ generation of the LNT, when hydrothermally aged at $900^{\circ}C$ for 18 hr, increased to about 90ppm at $300^{\circ}C$ due to Pt sintering and Ba agglomeration. LNT catalyst was most sulfur poisoning at $500^{\circ}C$. The $NH_3$ slip increased due to the reduction of residence time according to SV increase.

  • Urea-SCR, the selective catalytic reduction using urea as reducing agent, has been investigated for about 10 years in detail and today is a well established technique for deNOx of stationary diesel engines. In the case of the SCR-catalyst a non-uniform velocity and $NH_3$ profile will cause an inhomogeneous conversion of the reducing agent $NH_3$, resulting in a local breakthrough of $NH_3$ or increasing NOx emissions. Therefore, this work investigates the effect of flow and $NH_3$ non-uniformities on the deNOx performance and $NH_3$ slip in a Urea-SCR exhaust system. From the results of this study, it is found that flow and $NH_3$ distribution within SCR monolith is strongly related with deNOx performance of SCR catalyst. It is also found that multi-hole injector shows better $NH_3$ uniformity at the face of SCR monolith face than one hole injector.

  • Efficient simultaneous reduction conditions for $NO_x$ and $NH_3$-slip was investigated in SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) process with load variation by applying dual catalysts (SCR catalyst, $NH_3$ decomposition catalyst) system. $N_2O$ formation characteristics were analyzed to look into possible undesirable reaction pathways. In the experiments of catalyst characteristics, various operational variables were tested for the combined catalytic system, such as $NH_3/NO_x$ ratio, temperature, oxygen concentration and $H_2O$. The reaction characteristics of $NO_x$, $NH_3$ and $N_2O$ were analyzed and optimal conditions could be evaluated for the combustion facility with varied load. In terms of $NO_x/NH_3$ simultaneous reduction and $N_2O$ formation suppression, optimal condition was considered NSR 1.2 and temperature $300^{\circ}C$. At this operational condition, $NO_x$ conversion was 98%, $NH_3$ reduction efficiency was 95%, generated $N_2O$ concentration 9.5 ppm with inlet $NO_x$ concentration of 100 ppm. In $NH_3-SCR$ process with $NH_3$ decomposition catalyst, $NO_x$ and $NH_3$ can be considered to be reduced simultaneously at limited conditions. The results of this study may be utilized as basic data at facilities requiring simultaneous $NO_x$ and $NH_3$ reduction for facilities with load variation.

  • This study is a part of project of urea-SCR system development for an in-use medium duty diesel engine. This study shows the effect of ammonia oxidation catalyst and SCR volume on $NO_X$ reduction performance. When AOC(Ammonia Oxidation Catalyst) is not used, the urea injection should be controlled accurately to prevent $NH_3$ slip. However, it is found that the accurate $NH_3$ slip control is not easy without AOC in real engine operating conditions, because $NH_3$ and $NO_X$ reaction characteristics change with many factors such as exhaust gas temperature and $NH_3$ absorbance on SCR. SCR volume is also one of important design parameters. This study shows that $NO_X$ reduction efficiency increases with increase of SCR volume especially at high space velocity and low exhaust gas temperature conditions. Additionally, this paper shows the emissions of EURO-2 medium duty diesel engine can be improved to the level of EURO-5 with a DPF and urea-SCR system.

  • The Selective catalytic reduction(SCR) system is a highly-effective device of $NO_x$ reduction for diesel engines. Generally, the ammonia($NH_3$) generated from a liquid urea-water solution is used for the reductant. The ideal ratio of $NH_3$ molecules to $NO_x$ molecules is 1:1 based on $NH_3$ consumption and having $NH_3$ available for reaction of all of the exhaust $NO_x$. However, under the too low and too high temperature condition, the $NO_x$ reduction efficiency becomes lower, due to temperature window. And space velocity also affects to $NO_x$ conversion efficiency. This paper reviews a laboratory study to evaluate the effects of $NO_x$ and $NH_3$ concentrations, gas temperature and space velocity on the $NO_x$ conversion efficiency of the SCR system. The maximum conversion efficiency of $NO_x$ was indicated when the $NH_3$ to $NO_x$ ratio was 1.2 and the space velocity was $60,000\;h^{-1}$. The results of this paper contribute to improve overall $NO_x$ reduction efficiency and $NH_3$ slip.

망간계 금속산화물을 이용한 저온 선택적 촉매 환원 반응에서 NO2와 NH3 배출 (The Emission of NO2 and NH3 in Selective Catalytic Reduction over Manganese Oxide with NH3 at Low Temperature)

  • 망간계 금속산화물을 이용한 저온 선택적 촉매 환원 반응에 대하여 연구하였다. 망간계 금속산화물은 $200^{\circ}C$ 이하의 저온에서 우수한 탈질 특성을 보인다. 온도에 따른 $NH_3/NOx$ 몰비 변화 실험을 통하여 미반응 암모니아의 배출은 몰비가 증가하고 온도가 감소할수록 증가하였으며, $NO_2$의 발생은 반대의 현상을 보였다. $NO_2$는 NO가 촉매 표면에 흡착된 후 nitrate종으로 산화되어 생성되는 것으로 보인다. 촉매 표면에 생성된 nitrate종과 흡착된 암모니아가 반응하기 때문에 $NH_3/NOx$ 몰비 1.0 이상에서도 미반응 암모니아의 배출이 없었다. 담지된 금속산화물의 영향은 Zr은 산화상태를 증가시켜 $NO_2$의 배출이 증가하였으며, Ce를 첨가시킨 경우 $NO_2$ 발생량이 감소하였다. 그러나 금속산화물의 첨가는 전체적으로 NOx 전환율을 감소시켰다

Hybrid SNCR/SCR 탈질공정에서 SNCR의 관통노즐에 의한 NOx 저감 및 NH3 Slip 특성 (Characteristics of NOx Reduction and NH3 Slip in SNCR Using Pipe Nozzle for the Application of Hybrid SNCR/SCR Process)

  • Hybrid SNCR/SCR 공정개발을 위해 $1,000\;Nm^3/hr$ 용량의 실증 플랜트를 제작하였다. 1단계로 SNCR의 최적운전 조건을 규명하기위해 환원제의 당량비(NSR, 0.5~5.0), 반응온도($850{\sim}1,100^{\circ}C$), 노즐형태(벽노즐, 관통노즐), 노즐위치를 변수로 SNCR 실험하였다. 벽노즐은 NSR 2.5에서 87%까지 NOx 저감효율이 급증하고 이후 증가 폭이 둔화되었다. 관통노즐 상향분사와 비교해, 적용 가능한 반응온도 범위도 적었다. 관통노즐 상향은 NSR 1.5에서 77%까지 NOx 저감효율이 급증되는 현상을 보였다. 그러나 관통노즐 하향은 NOx 저감효과가 없을 뿐만 아니라 오히려 NOx 발생이 증가하였다. 관통노즐에서 환원제를 상향분사했을 때, NSR 0.5~1.5 범위에서 NOx 저감효율은 50~75%로 나타났고, $890{\sim}1,000^{\circ}C$ 범위의 반응온도변화에도 NOx 저감효율의 증감없이 일정한 효율을 보였다. Urea 5% 용액을 NSR 1.2 에서 관통노즐로 상향 분사했을 때 이며, 이때 200 ppm의 NOx가 약 60 ppm으로 저감되고, 미반응 $NH_3$는 50~100 ppm이었다. 이 조건에서 SNCR 후단의 SCR에 추가적인 $NH_3$ 공급 없이도 90 % 이상의 NOx 저감효율이 기대된다.

반복제어법을 이용한 소각장 NOx 저감용 SCR 시스템의 제어 (Control of SCR System for NOx Reduction in a Refuse Incineration Plant Using Repetitive Control Method)

  • The refuse incineration plant has an important role in saving the combustion energy for local heating system. But harmful combustion gas(NOx etc.) leads to some serious environmental problem. To reduce the gas, a SCR(Selective Catalytic Reduction)system is installed and it is controlled by adjusting the flow of ammonia gas(NH3) . In this paper, we apply a repetitive control method to reduce NOx by adjusting the flow of ammonia gas for SCR system in a refuse incineration plant which is located in Haeundae, Pusan, Firstly, we analyze the inlet NOx period by FFt method, and verify its periodic variations. Secondly, we design a repetitive control system by using state space model method. Lastly, the effectiveness of repetitive control system is shown by comparing to a conventional PID control in simulation and experimental results.

NOX 및 NH3 Slip 저감을 위한 Urea-SCR 제어기반 모델 개발 및 검증 (Development and Validation of Urea- SCR Control-Oriented Model for NOX and NH3 Slip Reduction)

  • 디젤 자동차의 점점 강화되는 $NO_X$ 배기가스 규제를 만족하기 위해서는 화학공학 기반의 SCR 반응모델을 사용한 모델기반 제어 알고리즘 개발이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 소형 경유차량을 대상으로 $NO_X$ 를 저감하기 위한 배기 후처리 시스템 모델을 설계하기 위하여 SCR 시스템 모델링과 Rig 실험 및 Matlab 을 이용하여 시뮬레이션 및 검증을 하였다. SCR Rig 실험은 디젤엔진에서 배출되는 배기가스와 같은 성분의 모사가스를 생성하여 공간속도와 온도의 변화에 의한 SCR 의 $NO_X$ 저감효율에 대한 실험 조건 및 데이터를 획득하였다. 또한, 제안된 모델은 Rig 실험에서 사용한 실험조건과 결과데이터를 이용하여 Matlab 을 통해 검증하였으며 시뮬레이션 시 필요한 모델의 파라미터 값들은 실험데이터를 기반으로 최적화하였다.
