Phase Transition Studies on BaTiO3 and PbTiO3 and Synthesis of Silicate Perovskite (BaTiO3와 PbTiO3에 대한 상(相)전이 연구와 규산염 페롭스카이트의 합성)

  • Diamond anvil cell (DAC) interfaced with a YAG laser heating system has been used to study the phase transformations on perovskite structured titanates ($BaTiO_3$, and $PbTiO_3$) and to synthesize the silicate perovskite phase from the orthopyroxenes of $MgSiO_3$ and $(Mg_{0.87},\;Fe_{0.13})SiO_3$. $BaTiO_3$ and $PbTiO_3$ transform from tetragonal phase to cubic at the pressures of approximately 2.6 GPa and 4.0 GPa at room temperature, respectively. Cubic phases of the both show wide range of stability in the extended in-situ high pressures and high temperature regions. Starting orthoenstatite of $MgSiO_3$ has yielded the perovskite phase as the major structure with ilmenite, gamma-spinel, betta-spinel and stishovite phases at ~38 GPa and ${\sim}1,000^{\circ}C$. $(Mg_{0.87},\;Fe_{0.13})SiO_3$ has shown the perovskite as the major phase with betta-spinel, stishovite and enstatite phases at ~35 GPa and ${\sim}1,000^{\circ}C$. The ilmenite phase does not occur at this condition.

Study on Temperature Field Measurement of Fluid using Phophor Particle (Sr,Mg)2SiO4:Eu2+ (인광입자(Sr,Mg)2SiO4:Eu2+를 이용한 액체의 온도장 측정에 관한 연구)

  • Phosphor particles ((Sr,Mg)2 SiO4:Eu2+ were suspended in deionized water in quartz cuvette and used for measuring liquid temperature field by using two-color-ratio method. In the temperature range of 23~77℃, it showed the relative error from 2.4% to 4% and the temperature sensitivity of 0.65 %/℃ at 30℃ and 0.95 %/℃ at 77 ℃. This performance is comparable to measurement techniques using thermographic liquid crystal or laser induced fluorescence or other thermographic phosphor particle. Among investigated potential error sources, the particle number density affected the intensity ratio and the temperature, but the effect of laser fluence was not evident.

  • As an automotive industry's demand for lighter materials gets bigger and bigger, a lot of new strength Al alloys have been developed recently. In the present study, Al 6xxx series alloys were designed to get the strength level of 350MPa with the elongation of $12\%$. For that purpose, three alloy systems were selected based on the thermodynamics calculation. The effect of both $Mg_{2}Si$ precipitate and excess Si amount on the newly designed alloys was investigated. Also, heat treatment procedure was studied to optimize the mechanical properties.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of three main chemical compositions(Mg, Zn, Si) on extrudability of 7xxx Al alloy with high tensile strength. A few Al alloys based on 7xxx alloys were metal mold cast with various weight*%) of Mg 0.3-1.2%, Zn 5.0-8.0% and Si 0.4-0.7%, to envestigate the effects of extrudability, as well as mechanical properties. To measure the extrudability of cast billets, maximum extrusion pressure and surface temperature at die exit before tearing occurs were obtained by experiment and simulation of thermo-viscoplastic F.E.M. Also the yield and tensile strength of extruded products were tested.

Effects of Surface Pretreatment on Deposition and Adhesion of Electrophoretic Paint on AZ31 Mg Alloy

  • In this work, electrophoretic paint (E-paint) was deposited on AZ31 Mg alloy after four different surface pretreatments: knife abrading, SiC paper abrading, deionized (DI) water immersion and NaOH immersion. The deposition process of E-paint was studied by analyses of voltage-time and current-time curves, amount of deposited paint, current efficiency and surface oxide film resistance and the adhesion of E-paint was examined by tape test before and after immersion in DI water for 500 h at $40$^{\circ}C$. It was found that the induction time for the deposition, the amount of deposited paint and the current efficiency are inversely proportional to the resistances of surface films prepared by different surface pretreatment methods. The electrophoretic painting showed longer inductance time, larger amount of deposited paint and higher current efficiency on the highly conducting surfaces, such as knife-abraded and SiC-abraded surfaces than on the less conducting surfaces, such as DI water-immersed and NaOH-immersed samples. Excellent adhesion was observed on the E-paintings deposited onto knife-abraded and SiC-abraded AZ31 Mg alloy samplesSiC-abraded AZ31 Mg alloy samples.

Copper Solubility in Al2O3-CaO-SiO2-MgO Slag (Al2O3-CaO-SiO2-MgO계 슬래그 중 Cu의 용해도)

  • In this study, the solubility of Cu, which is a main metal component of wasted PCB, in $CaO-SiO_2-Al_2O_3-MgO$ slag system was investigated. Each 20 grams of Cu chips and the quaternary slag manufactured was placed in an carbon crucible and melted for 10 hours in the temperature between 1673 K and 1825 K to confirm the equilibrium state. The oxygen partial pressure was controlled by the ratio of CO and Ar gas in the range of $10^{-17.23}$ to $10^{-15.83}$ atm. The concentration of Cu in the slag increased with increasing oxygen partial pressure, slag basicity, and MgO content in the slag. The concentration of Cu in the slag decreased with increasing temperature. The Cu dissolution reaction in the slag is an exothermic reaction.

  • 알루미나 매트릭스 복합재료를 AIZnMg(7075)-합금의 직접적인 용융산화를 통하여 제조하였다. 충전재료는 17$\mu\textrm{m}$ 크기의 모서리가 둥근 연마재용 SiC 입자를 사용하였다. 산화촉진재 SiO2를 사용한 경우와 사용하지 않은 경우를 비교하였다. 매트릭스 형성 매카니즘과 반응거동을 온도와 SiO2사용량을 중심으로 연구하였으며, 얻어진 AI2O3/SiC/금속 복합재료의 미세구조를 관찰하였다.

  • Using Si powder with average particle size of 8${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ Si compacts were formed by pressureless powder packing method. The compacts were reaction bonded at 1350, 140$0^{\circ}C$ for 3~35 hrs under N2/H2 atmosphere and its microstructures were examined. Reaction bonded silicon nitrides showed nitridation of 90% and relative density of 88% After the impregnation of 5wt% MgO as sintering additive using aqueous solution of Mg nitrate the Si compacts were reaction bonded at 140$0^{\circ}C$ for 15hrs. The reaction bonded bodies were gas pressure sintered at 180$0^{\circ}C$ 190$0^{\circ}C$ 200$0^{\circ}C$ for 150, 300min. They showed relative density of 95% bending strength of 600MPa and fracture toughness of 6 MPa.m1/2.

  • The effects of fluxes on MgO coating materials for tundish were investigated. As the number of charge in continuous casting was increased, the basicity of tundish slag was decreased due to the increase of silica formed by dissolution from rice hull. As a result, the wear of magnesia lining was increased. In aggregates of MgO coating materials, magnesioferrite was formed by the reaction between magnesia and ferric oxide formed by the oxidation of molten steel, while matrix parts of MgO coating materials were worn by CaO-Al2O3-SiO2 compounds. Silica in rice hull extracted to the molten slag reduced basicity of slag and formed forsterite in the result of its reaction with magnesia lining. Also, fayalite was formed from the reaction between silica and ferric oxide and it caused the increment of magnesia lining's wear. The wear of magnesia lining by flux of CaO-SiO2 was larger than that of Cao-Al2O3 and calcia in the flux increased the wear of magnesia lining through the formation of rankinite.

  • Reaction kinetics for the solid - state reaction of ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$with amorphous $SiO_2$to produce mullite ($3Al_2O_3;{cdot};2SiO_2$) was studied in the temperature range of 1450~$1480^{\circ}C$. Rate of kinetic reaction were determined by using $SiO_2$- coated $Al_2O_3$ compact containing 28.16 wt.% $SiO_2$and heating the reactant mixtures in MgO at definite temperature for various times. Amount of products and unreacted reactants were determined by X-ray diffractometry. Data from the volume fraction and ratio of peak intensities of mullite indicated that the reaction of ${\alpha}-;Al_2O_3$ with $SiO_2$to form $3Al_2O_3\;{\cdot}\;2SiO_2$ start between 1450 and $1480^{\circ}C$. The activation energy for solid-state reaction was determined by using the Arrhenius equation; The activation energy was 31.9 kJ/mol.
