Electrochemical properties of $LiCr_xMn_{1-x}O_2$ cathode materials for lithium ion battery (리튬 이온 이차전지용 $LiCr_xMn_{1-x}O_2$ 정극활물질의 전기 화학적 특성)

  • $\o-LiMnO_2$ is known to have poor cycle performance causing the irreversible phase transformation on cycling. In this paper, the effect of chemical substitution on improving cycle performance of $o-LiMnO_2$ was studied at the compositions of $LiCr_xMn_{1-x}O_2$(x=0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.4). XRD is showed that structure of $LiCr_xMn_{1-x}O_2$ transformed from orthorhombic to spinel according to the increase of substitute degree. For lithium ion battery applications, $LiCr_xMn_{1-x}O_2$/Li cell were characterized electrochemically by charge/discharge cycling.

The Effect of Reaction Temperature for Synthesis of LiMn2O4 by Calcination Process and the Electrochemical Characteristics (소성법에 의한 LiMn2O4의 제조시 반응 온도의 영향과 전기화학적 특성)

  • The spinel structured $LiMn_2O_4$ was prepared from $Li_2CO_3$ and $MnO_2$ by calcination at various temperatures in the range of $750{\sim}900^{\circ}C$. It was found that the most suitable cubic structure of $LiMn_2O_4$ was obtained by heating at $850^{\circ}C$ for 12 hrs. However, in the calcination at $900^{\circ}C$, $Mn^{4+}$ of 0.06M was changed to $Mn^{+3}$ by the oxygen loss, so that it has been shown that the formula has changed to $LiMn_2O_{3.97}$. This phenomena were in agreement with the Jahn-Teller distortion by the increment of $Mn^{+3}$ ion on the octahedral sites of the spinel structured $LiMn_2O_4$. The results showed that after 15 charge/discharge cycles in the voltage range from 3.5V to 4.3V versus Li/$Li^+$ with a current density of $0.25mA/cm^2$, the spinel structured $LiMn_2O_4$ that was prepared at $900^{\circ}C$ showed a lower discharge capacity, 82~50 mAh/g, while the $LiMn_2O_4$, prepared at $850^{\circ}C$, showed the discharge capacity of 102~64 mAh/g.

  • In this study, we investigated $Li_2ZrO_3$ membrane as a candidate material for high-temperature $CO_2$ separation and evaluated mechanical property. $Li_2ZrO_3$ powder was synthesized by solid state reaction of $Li_2CO_3\;and\;ZrO_2$. Then we fabricated $Li_2ZrO_3$ tape using tape casting method. Dense $Li_2ZrO_3$ membrane prepared by sintering at $1600^{\circ}C$ for 2 h after pressing $Li_2ZrO_3$ tape using lamination machine. Mechanical properties before and after $CO_2$ absorption of fabricated $Li_2ZrO_3$ membrane such as Hertzian indentation, Victors hardness and 3-point bending testing were evaluated.

Electrochemical Properties of $Li_{2}O-P_{2}O_{5}-V_{2}O_{5}$ Glass-ceramics for cathode Material (정극재료용 $Li_{2}O-P_{2}O_{5}-V_{2}O_{5}$계 결정화 유리의 전기화학적 특성)

  • Vanadate glasses containing 10~20mol% glass former, P$_2$O$_{5}$ were prepared by melting the batch in platinum crucible and quenching on the copper plate. Li$_2$O-P$_2$O$_{5}$-V$_2$O$_{5}$ glass-ceramics having LiV$_3$O$_{8}$ were obtained by heat-treatment of this glass in crystallization temperature. The glass-ceramics showed singnificantly good capacity and long cycles life according to heating condition. In this paper, we described electrochemical properties during crystallization process and found the best crystallizaton condition of Li$_2$O-P$_2$O$_{5}$-V$_2$O$_{5}$ glass as cathode material. Li$_2$O-P$_2$O$_{5}$-V$_2$O$_{5}$ glass-ceramics heat-treated at 233$^{\circ}C$ for 3 hors showed good rechargeable capacity of 220mAh/g in the cycling range between 2.0 and 3.9V.en 2.0 and 3.9V.

  • As a basic study for cathode materials of {{{{ { {LiMn }_{2 }O }_{4 } }}-based lithium-ion secondary batteries Li({{{{ { { { {Mn }_{1-$\delta$ }Nb }_{$\delta$} )}_{2 }O }_{4 } }} ($\delta$=0.05, 0.1, 0.2) materials which Nb is substituted for Mn were synthesized by the solid state reaction at 80$0^{\circ}C$ and 110$0^{\circ}C$ respectively. The second phase {{{{ { LiNbO}_{3 } }} appeared above $\delta$=0.1 As the result of im-pedance analysis as the amount of substituted Nb increased the resistivity of grain boundary increased greatly. Compared to undoped-{{{{ { {LiMn }_{2 }O }_{4 } }} the electrical conductivity of Li({{{{ { { { {Mn }_{1-$\delta$ }Nb }_{$\delta$} )}_{2 }O }_{4 } }} decreased slightly but is charging capacity and potential plateau increased.

  • Experiments using a metal oxide of a non-nuclear material as a fuel are very useful to develop a new electrolytic reducer for pyroprocessing. In this study, the titanium oxides (TiO and $TiO_2$) were selected and investigated as the non-nuclear fuel for the electrolytic reduction. The immersion tests of TiO and $TiO_2$ in a molten 1.0 wt.% $Li_2O$-LiCl salt revealed that they have solubility of 156 and 2100 ppm, respectively. Then, the Ti metals were successfully produced after the separate electrolytic reduction of TiO and $TiO_2$ in a molten 1.0 wt.% $Li_2O$-LiCl salt. However, Ti was detected on the platinum anode used for the electrolytic reduction of $TiO_2$ unlike TiO due to the dissolution of $TiO_2$ into the salt.

Effect of Bi2O3/Li2CO3 on Low Temperature Sintering and Dielectrics of BaTiO3 Ceramics (BaTiO3 저온 소결 및 유전상에 미치는 Bi2O3/Li2CO3의 영향)

  • Effect of Bi2O3/Li2CO3 on low temperature sinteirng and dielectric property of BaTiO3 ceramics has been investigated. For the specimen sintered at 110$0^{\circ}C$, it was densified to 96% of BaTiO3 theoretical density by the addition of 1.0-1.25w/o Bi2O3/Li2CO3. Maximum dielectric constant increased and Curie temperature lowered with the increase of Bi2O3/Li2CO3 content, which probably can be explained by thne substitution of Bi3+, Li1+ on BaTiO3 lattice. The volatilization of Li1+, resulting from the increase of soaking time at 110$0^{\circ}C$ leads to the increase of Curie temperature and tetragonality of the specimen.

  • The upper limit of solid solution of $Al_2O_3$ in $LiTaO_3$ was investigated using X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy. By substituting cations in $LiTaO_3$ with $Al^{3+}$, the melting temperature was lowed and the ferroelectric properties can be improved. It is easier at lower temperature to fabricate the single crystal used for SAW filters and IR sensors. From the measured lattice constants and Raman band broadening, the solubility limit was X=0.25mol in $Li_{1-X}Al_{2X}Ta{1-X}O_3$, above which $Al_2O_3$ was obsered as a second phase. The Raman band of sintered $LiTaO_3$ was compared with that of the single crystal to see the effect of grain size on the band broadening.

Cougruent Compositon of $LiNbO_3$ Crystal ($LiNbO_3$ 단결정의 Congruent 조성에 관한 연구)

  • The congruent composition of $LiNbO_3$ was determined by measuring Curie temperature($T_c$) of crystals and residual melt grown from the range 48.45 to 48.60mole%$Li_2O$ melts. The $T_c$ of $LiNbO_3$ varied with compositon largely. The variation of $T_c$ with composition was found to follow $T_c=l0.4184c^2-962. 996C + 23342$, where C is mole % LizO. DSC-1500 was used to measure $T_c$. Distribution coefficients for $LiNbO_3$$ LiNbO_3$ contains 48.52mole$Li_2O$ and has a measured Tc of $1145{\pm}^{\circ}C$
